So I've had the A45 a week now and the golf R has gone, few people asked for my thoughts on how the A45 stacks up.. Picture heavy.
Spec wise this has, Performance exhaust, Aero Pack, Night Pack, Premium Pack (Leather/Keyless/Panoramic Roof) Smartphone integration, CarPlay, NAV, 19" AMG wheels, Performance Steering Wheel, Light & Sight Pack, Cruise Control. Interior It's defiantly more refined than the golf, seats are taking some getting used to still don't think I've got the right seat position, but absolutely love the interior..not had any of the creaks or rattles yet but I'm sure they will come after a few launch starts.. Boot is slightly bigger however the opening to get in the boot is smaller and no hatch between the seats.. So golf wins on that one and there is a lot less storage space inside compared to the golf. Indicators, front and rear wiper, horn, high beam all on the same stick nothing on the right hand side.. The paddles on the steering wheel make it difficult to switch on rear wiper. Cruise control is also on the same side which and can't be seen so you have to poke and hope. Audio & Speakers So this car has CarPlay, Harmon Kardon 7.1 Nav & Smart Phone Prep. It has two usb sockets one is power only the second is for smartphones or usb storage.. If your using CarPlay you can't use anything else apart from radio, car play just takes over which is a bit annoying, there is also no 7.1 available with CarPlay which is a really frustrating.. Using a usb stick or radio the sound system comes alive.. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/ddb3c515b1f4b46001b3396d7c1c6563.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/98f581d2603f749ef9a5000de2333dff.jpg Steering & Gearbox Steering is not as direct as the golf, very little difference in sport plus compared to race in the golf, definitely prefer the golf steering. My golf was a manual, the A45 has 7 speed auto.. Don't miss the manual one little bit.. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/09fdabba88f985b0290dda1c06bba9d3.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/9fa43ea577bb1d88112eb788c6522f8d.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/336a5285db59a6a9409cb10323d53b37.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/ece352935d1ba413bebd4b64477edcdc.jpg Engine & Exhaust Well this is a total winner over the golf can't wait until it's run in properly to start giving it the beens but so far the sound and power delivery don't disappoint.. Love it.. I'm trying to resist tuning it at least for a few months but you can see the possibilities below. Those figures are stock, then add tuning box, then add induction kit from a recent facelift car. Yes that is the standard down pipe too http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/e68d2165b839cc1de7dbae0dd2be9c50.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/cb68b5c21a0f5e7ee82fd3ce424f84ea.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/865f44c4ab40591c82117a887a487068.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/dee095542cbf79b1c4d5afadc2cd846c.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/80779b2caa86fd40fb3e505fb82e4443.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/adf05475888d915f19943439a15c5868.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/be712123d98b51c8673ca43da27d3627.jpg Bodywork Well not much different to the golf, paint swirls on delivery not as bad as the golf admittedly but still there.. It's a much bigger car poor visibility out or rear and side windows.. I always say you never know the car until you have spent time cleaning it and get to know all its curves and crevices, (bit like a women really) apologies to any lady readers.. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/27b43bbd91c930e42e78b87a6b311f63.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/420bddb5e69d244417f7018b00b9a1fe.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/52eaee3fedd393f83977942dac6fb00c.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/ff4cb71427226c1db584c44f156b8541.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/1f2de47f2f8753c7ba6929763360c71d.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/7b57ebadc5c6f870e90cf4231bc65da6.jpg Brakes, Wheels & Suspension I had 18" Cadiz on the golf loved those wheels, however the 19" on the A45 are something else, pain in the ass to clean but it's worth it.. Brakes are fantastic and suspension is not as hard as I expected the car could defiantly do with being a bit lower but after the trouble I had with the VWR springs on the golf I'm going to leave the suspension alone.. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/e2a7b37412d66e0a1147f3142ebdc80a.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/69aeb67b62ec910c98e171374e8ea595.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160508/7cf495cc1854a050d4c71f7913735a36.jpg Overall I'm very pleased with the car, do I miss the golf... ? Yea I do just a tiny bit, just little things the A45 is missing that worked so well on the golf.. Would I go back? Maybe if the R400/420 ever apears.
