  1. With valves closed it is OK. Where this exhaust shines is when you are 'on it' - the bangs and pops are unreal.
  2. I've just taken my milltek non res valved cat back off to go back to standard as the drone and boom at motorway speeds was driving me mad and was actually a bit embarrassing with passengers in the car. As said, it is very loud and 'in yer face' so be wary and make sure it's what you really want. If you want a second hand bargain let me know. Cheers David
  3. The TT pipe install is fairly straight forward. Just make sure you lightly oil the O rings on the aluminium adapter before you fit it, as when you twist it to lock it in place, the o rings can stretch or tear if they are dry. The muffler delete, again straight forward, but there is one bolt that is tricky to access but not impossible. I would recommend oiling the rubber seals just to help them bed in when the part is fitted.
  4. They are different parts. The turbo technics intake pipe is the inlet side of the compressor, the muffler is the outlet side. I have the VW racing muffler delete as well as the TT pipe, and they offer a dramatic increase in spool noise.
  5. Hi, Generally the R is proving to be very reliable. Engines are strong and so are DSG gearboxes. The manual clutch is known to be quite weak - mine is actually slipping on standard power at 7000 miles. That's not to say they all do though - some people are running standard clutch on stage 1 with no issues. Therefore it's worth checking for slip on the test drive. 2014 cars will have the older turbo revision which can fail. Try to see if this has been replaced with the revised part by photographing the back of the turbo and looking at the spec stamp. The latest revised part ends in 722H. There are guides how to do this on the forum. Hard use would be indicated by tyre wear. Apart from that no other real issues and they are a great piece of kit!
  6. The hard plastic pipe moves out of the way if you just rotate it where it meets the cam cover. I've actually loosely zip tied mine to one of the fixed abs pipes which are nearby and solved the issue.
  7. The issue was due to poor lubrication pathways in the centre cartridge causing the shaft to overheat and ultimately fracture. The revised turbos have better means of being lubricated. This was from a very reliable source so I don't doubt what I have been told.
  8. Yes unsure of this myself, I am more or less settled on the Sachs organic from ecotune for the best balance of driveabilty and torque handling using the OEM flywheel if possible. What about changing the release bearing?
  9. Sorry pal can't make the convoy now but will be at the meet. Cheers David
  10. Interesting to hear that the flywheel could be this issue. I think I'm going to take it to VW and see what they say.
  11. Due to my standard clutch slipping on stock software I have opted to go for the the Sachs organic clutch rated to 410 foot pounds. I didn't want sintered as I understand driveability is poor and so wanted the more OEM option. My question is: will this be adequate for a stage 1 map, and possibly beyond? I will more than likely go with Unicorn and I am keen to hear other people's opinion. Many thanks for any input. David
  12. Sounds good, will have a look later. Cheers
  13. I've never had a tuning box or remap, just intake mods. Fair enough about the dealer, I suspect it will be a difficult one under warranty.
  14. A map was inevitably on the cards at some point so it's likely I'll end up going down this route.
