  1. It was that very poster that made me want a GTI when I was at college. πŸ‘
  2. I had a B7 RS4 for 4 years and loved it. Had my G7R for a year now and it is a really capable car, but it lacks the excitement factor. Both cars cover ground quickly and are great fun, but there is something about the noise and power delivery of the V8 that I really miss. The RS4 was nowhere near as economical and the tech is outdated now, though it felt special overtime I got into it. I went to LeMans in it last year and it was the perfect beast to travel in. I will keep the G7R for a while, but I will likely get a FL RS3 8V when funds allow as I am hooked on cars from VAG and a sucker for good engine noise. Even if it is dynamically not perfect, an RS makes you smile when driving fast or slow. Just drop the windows and floor the throttle. ☺️ My 2006 Daytona Grey B7: My 2015 G7R:
  3. No problem, I hope you find someone good who is local to you. My next job is to sort out the rusty wheel hubs, as they look a mess and I want to get them painted before the bad winter weather.
  4. I have DCC and wouldn't be without it, though not driven a G7R that doesn't have it. I wouldn't normally have choose a pano roof, but I have used it lots more than I thought and it really brightens up the cabin. On fast A roads it is ok to have it fully open, and I regularly leave it tilted open when on the motorway. There is some wind noise but I only close it if it is windy outside, and to be honest I have it tilted open nearly all the time.
  5. They needed sorting as the previous owner had marked the alloys and I managed to rash the front left on an overhanging kerb a few weeks ago. I had them done at The Wheel Specialist in Leeds and they had the car overnight, though less than 24 hours in total. It was a full strip down and powder coat in TWS grey with a satin finish, and the cost was around Β£380 all in. My R was in good company there as they had a couple of Bentley Conti R's in at the same time for original finish refurbs. The service and final result is excellent, and the guys there were top notch. I've used TWS in Manchester previously and they were great too. They could do them in the original VW finish, and estimated it would add about Β£40 to the overall bill as they had to buy the VW paint in. Hope that helps.
  6. Thanks again for the info. The gloss black mirror caps arrived from Crewe VW yesterday and I have fitted them today. They were pretty easy to fit and work really well with the toned down stealth-look I want. My R is fully debadged and Prets have been refurbed in gunmetal grey at The Wheel Specialist in Leeds (who did an excellent job btw πŸ‘). I know it is not to everyones taste, but as a black car it looks really good lowered on the VWR springs with spacers all round, so the wheels fill the arches. Reasonably subtle with a nice stance.
  7. Hi Roberth, do you know if there is there another way to get this working on the MIB1 Pro unit? Thanks.
  8. I wasn't to fussed whether it was a lease car or not, I just knew the options I wanted (SatNav, leather, Prets, DCC & DBP paint). It took me a few weeks to find one but glad I waited. Added bonus of sunroof & Discover Pro fitted as well, so I was pretty chuffed.
  9. I didn't realise you could switch off the choices. Will be doing this next time I am in the car. πŸ‘
  10. Are these genuine VW parts? The advert says they are, but wanted to check buying ordering them. Thanks.
  11. Some more chat about this in this thread - http://www.vwroc.com/forums/topic/22786-what-are-vw-testing/
  12. It would be great to get the 2.5l 5 pot in the R as that would be my perfect motor, but more likely is that Audi are using a pre-facelift 7R as a mule. VAG have a long history of using other cars from the group as test mules, sometimes going to a lot of fabrication effort to do this. E.g. https://www.autoevolution.com/news/bentley-tests-2018-flying-spur-using-porsche-panamera-based-mule-116280.html
  13. Thanks for the tip. It worked just as you described and I've now have updated the radio logos. I only copied the files I needed to the card and this saved a lot of time scrolling down and selecting the logo for each station. πŸ‘ Result below:
  14. I've just reformatted the SD card (EXFat) and copied the files across again, but the result is the same (see below). The files are 160x120 so size shouldn't be an issue. I watched this video https://youtu.be/41MX7Q_MzGU and you can clearly see the logos by the radio station name. The main difference I've noticed is that the files I have are .PNG and they are all prefixed by ._ Any help appreciated. Thanks.
  15. Thanks. i have downloaded this on a Mac and saved the files to a 32Mb SanDisk Ultra card where I can view the logos. Plugged it into my 2015 G7R and the filenames are listed but no images are shown. Any ideas why the images are not showing up? Thanks.
  16. Yes all figures are at the flywheel. TBH I'm not a slave to the numbers but for me the proof is behind the wheel, and this is where the figures do reflect my (subjective) driving experience in that the car feels much stronger with the latest APR map & VWR parts. I have a lot of faith in the technicians at Awesome and have seen a lot of runs on their dyno, so I am pretty comfortable that the results from their dyno are accurate and consistent. I have loaded up the dyno outputs below for reference. APR stage 1 high-torque (RED lines) and Revo stage 1 (BLUE lines) APR stage 1 low-torque + VWR R600 / elbow / hose
  17. No worries, it's all healthy debate. πŸ˜‰ The APR hardware is really well engineered and I usually fit their parts when modifying my VW's and Audi's, but I thought I'd try VWR this time. Can't say whether VWR is better or worse than any other manufacturer, just that it works well on my car and the quality is good for the price. The APR does look lovely and I'm sure freeing up the airflow will make a difference to the figures.
