Ok they have now fessed up to 'forgetting' options and have offered to pay 35% of the options value which brings their offer up to (coincidentally) 22895 which is what I paid for the vehicle when I bought it from Cameron's VW in Perth on Jan 31st 2017. I'm going to take the cash but am inclined to make a complaint as they are clearly playing games to pay as little as possible. If I wasn't a stroppy git, auto trader obsessed, Golf R value nerd I would have lost almost £2k and this just isn't fair in my view. Or should I just drop it and move on? Anyone selling a high spec low miles DSG R for something around my budget? Ideally lapiz, grey or red. I'm planning to go for pano and pro nav in addition to leather and DCC next time

I'd noticed this one too, I've been following prices like a hawk for three months now and this looks like extremely good value for the spec, 1 owner, full VWSH, as long as it's straight. Only thing missing for me would be dynamic chassis control (DCC) albeit it may have it as many Indy dealers don't know what to look for. Look forward to hearing how you get on viewing it.

Thanks, yes I'd spotted this one, bit like mine but even higher spec (pano and carbon leather). I quite fancy it as a replacement but I'd say about £3k overpriced on account of being a private sale. Current insurance offer is £21.3k albeit this is based on a valuation without any options hence I have appealed it. Parkers with options says £23k. Is it normal/reasonable to expect insurance companies to reflect options in settlement valuation?

Some of you will know my lovely Lapiz R was stolen last week. I'm now at the stage where the insurance company make a derisory offer and I get upset and throw toys out of pram. Im interested to know what you all think a reasonable payout would be (excluding excess deductions)? The car was quite high spec (see footer), registered Aug 14, 1 previous owner, 16000 miles and 3 VW main dealer services. thanks.

Many thanks for all the messages of sympathy and support, much appreciated. Insurance have been great so far (Aviva) but let's see how it goes. Not had the offer yet! For your info they came in through a window in the kitchen which they forced open with a crowbar having tried the lounge windows and the patio doors. Probably two or three of them in total, a well organised gang. They took the keys to both cars and a purse from my wife's bag which was on the kitchen table and scarpered back out the patio doors, over the fence into front garden, then away in the cars. The view of the police is the only thing you can really do to prevent this is to install an alarm with lots of PIR detectors, a massive sounder and switch the ground floor on when you go to bed. Hiding the keys or taking them to bed with you could lead to a violent encounter which is best avoided in my humble opinion. Guess what I'm spending this afternoon researching! It will no doubt cost me a few bob by the time excesses, no claims losses and replacement costs are covered. There is also the time to find another of similar spec as they are pretty rare. But at the end of the day it is only metal, no one got hurt, AND they missed the Mini John Cooper Works tucked away in the garage. The final irony is that in my day job I work for a charity that helps ex prisoners find work so they aren't tempted to nick stuff. Must try harder! Thanks again for kind words.

Looks like my R experience has been short and sweet. Woke up this morning to find an empty space on the drive where my lovely Lapiz R (and the family bus) were parked. It was a classic 'break in the back door and steal the keys' job. If anyone sees SM14YSX please let me know. The car was stolen from Moseley, south Birmingham. Took me ages to find the right spec and price. Gutted!

Can anyone recommend a detailer near Moseley, South Birmingham? There was a thread along these lines back in 2014 but things move on. Any suggestions appreciated.

Ha ha, far too law obiding to do this.

Just tried holding down foot brake, no seatbelt, parking brake released no probs, feeling a bit dim....doh! Thanks for advice tho.

Thanks, some helpful comments here. I'm aware that later cars work slightly differently from earlier ones like mine. Will try the 'holding the foot brake down' thing later.

Question about my 14 plate DSG. Is there an easy way to overide electronic park brake auto engaging when drivers seatbelt is removed? For example if the car is on my drive and I want to hop in and move it back a little to open garage door I have to buckle my seatbelt to get the handbrake to disengage. This is a real pain. Is there a way around this? thanks.

I'd be interested to know which DCC suspension setting best correlates to non DCC suspension? My car has DCC and is my main family transport. I find normal suspension setting is perfect for this but also use comfort when cruising or if roads are particularly poor. Sport feels just a bit too harsh for normal roads albeit this is of course a personal thing. Not or sure how non DCC suspension relates to this but if it is similar to DCC sport mode and you plan to use car mainly for general family motoring then I would recommend speccing DCC. hope thus helps.

Mine seems to hover around the mid to high 20's with a range of driving from family cruising to solo back road blasts. Best has been 34 on a careful motorway run. To be honest I have been quite disappointed with this aspect of the car (albeit it's the ONLY disappointment). My other car is a John Cooper Works mini which has very similar official mpg figures and number of carbon emission thingies but never drops below 30 however hard I drive. I had expected the same from the R. I have wondered if there is a petrolgate scandal, yet to emerge? Any thoughts?

Welcome. 5 mins in race mode should rectify the 'feel' issue. Having said that I will be interested to get your considered view of the G7R compared to the ST as the latter currently seems to be everyone's fave small hot hatch?

I have a 14 plate R with Discover Nav (not the Pro) it it works ok but is pretty basic compared with even the basic phone apps. Anyone got any upgrade suggestions? I'm particularly interested in getting speed camera locations? Is this poss on Discover Nav?

I'm interested if you notice any significant difference in ride quality between Prets and Cadiz? I went for Cadiz as my R is my main family transport (also have DCC) but really prefer the look of Prets.

Totally sympathise with this. I've recently been through the same process looking for my 'must haves' of DCC, leather and nav. Eventually found one in a main dealer in Perth (I'm in Brum) but that was after 2 months of daily looking on pistonheads, auto trader and eBay. Wifey was beginning divorce proceedings on basis my iPad obsession! My ideal would have been sunroof too but they are extremely rare. I also found few dealers who didn't understand DCC so a call can sometimes reveal good news if the other bits are there. Most people ordering high spec cars seem to tick the DCC box. What non-performance enhancing mods have you done to your R 2?

Love these. The web page referenced here says 'no longer available' but found on ebay so ordered from there. Note this is for set of 2, so need 2 sets for a 4 door. I have recently bought a used R from Cameron's Perth and found them to be excellent too. I dealt with Louise who couldn't have been more helpful. Highly recommended.

Many thanks for the advice folks, very helpful. I think I will try the disconnect option first to see what it's like with no soundaktor at all. Im currently in Wales for half term hols with great driving roads in both directions....... 'just popping out for a pint of milk dear'
