Ive been watching the prices on gt4's last year or 2 and they did start rising until they released the 4.0 718 i think, they've definitely come down in price either way.

Ice is a dangerous game for anything unless youve got studded tyres, my disco does have an off road assisted start function that will get you moving on mud/snow/ice from a standstill so maybe hers does too. Not a fan of the evoque personally, the interior room is dire and im not keen on the styling either. The disco sports got 7 seats, the rear legroom and boot is about tripple the size of the golf too and seemed best in class. As you can imagine i had a really long list including the mk1 touareg when looking for a replacement, the discos lovely though as long as it doesnt start playing up 😄

Well i drive my van 5 days a week so i bought a new discovery sport for the wife, if i was gonna buy an suv it had to have a little off road ability as i cant stand suvs that are basically giant cars and useless off road, i toyed with the idea of a 2016 land cruiser for a long time, in the end i decided that although its way more capable than the disco id unlikely use it to its full capability so didn't want to sacrifice the beautiful cabin and looks in the disco for ability i may never use. So a fairly boring car for now, i have the money saved for a 981 cayman gt4 and thats really what ive been dreaming of, but ill wait a bit for a time where ill be getting more use out of it.

Done a little writeup on my ownership, not something ive ever done before so critiques fill your boots 😄. https://drivetribe.com/p/long-term-review-2017-golf-r-mk75-E2scuL-SSSaTqpU449uUog?iid=Tn--uemKQiCcw2dfMYtTlA Was a pleasure to use this forum, very level headed owners and wish you all well 👍

Not sure, but theyre both capable of a static weight for sleeping in. Yeah thats what i had in mind, a decent family car im not gonna be anal about putting a dog and kids in. I have access to family land that i camp on with a group of mates, but we have to walk all our gear down about half a mile cause none of us have 4wd to get back up the hill when it rains 😅. Think im more set on the landcruiser now, i drive my van for work 5 days a week too so its not like the golf is my daily, its more the wifes now. Hopefully i can find a special weekend car in the future

You can get 4 man roof tents, they are expensive but great for certain countries or places where you can wild camp but dont wanna pitch a tent. I think i may be leaning to swapping for a land cruiser. Bored of potholes in the golf, just hitting a little one sounds like the front ends fallen off. 😒

This may be some odd questions for this type of car 😅. I currently own a 7.5 hatch and its getting a bit small for us now, all my friends have gone into the vw t5 or caddys as campers,i began to think about moving onto something slow but diferent in the form of a landcruiser with a rooftent, big enough for a dog and carrying stuff we need etc. However after seeing the #rallywagen gti and how he done 10k miles across South america it got me thinking about swapping my hatch for the estate, getting a roof tent on it and hoping to have the best of both worlds. Hopefully the worst we'll drive on will be muddy fields or grassy hills, obviously a landcruiser youd tackle something tougher purposefully, has anyone really tried their R on a wet grassy hill /mud? 😄 If anyone has a rooftent on their R id love to hear your experience, as well as anyone swapping from hatch to estate.

Yeah ive seen this before, big fan of mcm. It wasn't really that decisive but the evo pulled a gap on the golf pretty easily once it was leading up front.
-
Yeah just looking at some dyno graphs as comparison and the R is making 260lbft at 2500rpm and the evos not making that until 3500rpm, however the evos rev to 7500rpm and have quite short gearing so easily stay in the curves.
-
The mk7.5 did 0-60 in 4.2 on carwow tests, an evo mr360 will do it in 3.9 and thats a manual box too. I think the evos were always a good step ahead of the subarus. Yeah i have read they dont make boost until 3000+rpm but would that make any diference, if youre pushing it you'll never be under 3k anyway. Theres just no proper test done that ive found that compares these cars to the evo they replaced

So, ive wanted an evo 7/8/9 before i even had a license and hopefully within the next year ill be able to finally make that purchase and have it as a weekend car as the wife uses the golf most of the week and im driving around in my van. What ive found interesting is they have obviously always been extremely capable cars despite being 15+ years old, a quick search on youtube finds them doing 7m30s nordschleife times (theyre slightly modified), they're never really used as a benchmark for today's awd hatches and i understand that on comparison of daily drivers it stands no chance against modern hatches but on a performance head to head i wonder where they really stand? Its a real shame mitsubishi couldn't continue to build on the evo 9 in the same manner but i guess its best left as a legend rather than living in the shadows like the current wrx sti. Has anyone here come from/own an evo? Whats your thoughts on pace on track/road. I imagine the evo is a real b road weapon and with tyre compound progress i bet times it set back in the day on track could be improved upon too.

Ive been round brands probably 5 or 6 times but not in the golf ive owned for 4 years 😅 done trackdays in my old fiesta st, sneaked into a couple of villagers days and done the m3 and m4 master. Crazy how greasy the last corner is in february aha. Nearly killed lewis plato in the m4 on the straight kicking sideways at 100mph in the wet 😆
-
Havnt got all the way through the thread yet, but you mention druids at brands which is my local track, drop us a pm when you get a day booked in? I may join or at the least come have a watch 🙂

This is how id have my wheel done, those chunky mccoys chip carbon things with lights all over em look horrible to me 😄
-
Hey don, Thanks for taking the time to explain it properly, so ill have to grab a vcds and find out i guess. The vans exactly the same as the crafter but idk what its built on, it uses the same screen and steering wheel as my golf so a fair bit of its familiar, except the auto box which is an 8 speed zf rather than dsg.(crafter also uses zf)
-
Sorry this isnt for my R so hope its ok, us van owners dont have a forum and when they do nobody is clued up on stuff like this. I picked up a well specced brand new MAN TGE van a few weeks ago, i selected a comfort plus package which if picked in europe comes with adaptive cruise, but unfortunately doesnt in the uk, however i beleive i have the cameras and radar on the van for it, and even when i start the van up it brings up an adaptive cruise symbol but then disapears once it cant find it. Do you think vcds may be able to activate it, is that even a thing? Not entirely sure how vcds works. Thanks

Done about 15 thousand miles on mine or 25,000km and still good. -
Ive revved in neutral and park and it always has a soft limiter. Im childish like that 😁
-
whats the difference between revving in park and neutral?
-
Given it a drive today, so it only does it in manual race mode, comfort manual and auto it doesnt do it, and is the same as you described. Ill get a dsg change booked in as its been run on jb4 and then a remap since about 5k miles so guess its probably due anyway
-
I think im gonna have to take it out for a drive later to actually figure out what scenarios it does it in. Ill get back to it. And yeah its got a tcu tune, its driven really gently most of the time in comfort mode too so not like it gets thrashed on the daily.
-
Permanent manual, ill be honest i only drive it on weekends for a couple of hours, i barely get seat time in it to suss things out 😪 cons of having to drive a van for business. Its on 33k and just over 3 years old so i think a dsg service is due on its next service, could need doing.
-
7.5 had from new and on racingline stage 1 map, buts its always done it. Usually lowish revs, 2 to 3k maybe.
-
Will do it in any gear, so the car just assumes that driving is either flat out or wanting a next gear? I find it offputting if your going into a corner and want to give it a little throttle or just get back on the throttle and it jerks first. I pretty much exclusively drive with paddles unless in traffic. Just to reiterate its not happening when i go for a gear, im driving in the same gear in manual mode and reapplying throttle to exit a bend for example when it does it.
-
so, say im cruising along and let off the throttle to coast as someone is making a turn ahead, when i re apply the throttle theres always a jerk or jolting motion and its done it since new so i assume its a characteristic of the car. Will a pedal box sort this out? I did a search and couldn't find anything, but im sure ive seen it discussed before
