Haven't been on the forum for a while, mostly because I've been distracted with the new toy..... It's a rather mint Ducati 848, and in my opinion, the best looking bike ever made! Just need some decent weather now, so I can fully open the taps!
  2. If the old filter was really clean by 32k miles, then I would guess that the haldex hasn't been working. Correctly functioning systems hardly ever wheelspin, and by 15k miles the filter is usually filthy with black friction compound. If it's not the pump or electrical connectors, I would reckon its a software issue.
  3. You have no worries mate. Refusing a warranty claim for saying your car has been launched, is the same as refusing it for saying it has been driven fast. It is a performance feature, built into a performance car, and designed to be used. In fact, the quoted VW performance figures that persuade you to buy the car over the competition, are based on LC. As mentioned, it's not something you can comfortably do every time you pull away and the novelty does soon wear off, so I would concentrate on checking the fundamentals of general condition and servicing when buying an R. And when you get it.... Launch away! LOL!
  4. The ice caps will melt, and a billion polar bears will die! All because of this thread! 😁
  5. I had the Forge intake hose, with the DVX (adjustable) diverter valve fitted, and whilst it was a bit tight, it did fit. Took off the DVX and sold it though as there was no noticeable gains in anything (performance, throttle response etc). The larger intake hose may/may not help with my stage 2 remap, but it looks nice anyway so I'm keeping it. One thing the sceptic in me thinks (reference tuners making claims about various intakes and other products), is that if they sell that particular product in their shop, they are hardly likely to say it doesn't produce any gains or other benefits 🤔
  6. Insurance covers this issue. Many, many more things worthy of my worry time!
  7. I dont unfortunatly but thanks anyway. I have a halfords trade card, but that normally just brings the prices down to slightly above euro car parts with their (perpetual) discounts.
  8. Actually got a not bad deal in Euro Car Parts in the end. £37 for 5 litres of tripple QX 5W-30 and a bosch oil filter - with 35% off with code WEEKEND35. This is just my mid-service service. I like to do my own oil change halfway between the normal recommend main dealer services for added oil freshness 😉
  9. I remember there was a good deal on Castrol edge in ASDA a few months ago. I'm needing some for a top up. Anyone spotted any good deals around? Cheers.
  10. Yes mate. I'm on a submarine at the moment, but i'll do it when I get home tomorrow night 😉
  11. C7 Corvette Stingray convertible. I was working in Florida for 7 months. The girlfriend came out for a 10 day holiday. Hired a Mustang and it was great, but upon passing the rental company after the first day, I noticed they had a brand new 6.2 litre Corvette delivered. Done a deal with some military discount and got it for just under $100 a day. That would probably get you a Mondeo in the UK! Blasting around the long, smooth straight roads of Florida for 10 days, it was just perfect. So much grunt and an open top to hear that spectacular V8. Wouldn't have one in the UK mind, but amazing over there.
  12. Hey Rick, hows it going? Yes buddy, I bought one of a guy on a Golf R facebook page second hand , complete with the remote GPS antenna. I figured I could use it to test performance and take it up the drag strip, then pretty much sell it for what I paid when i'm done. Getting some great figures!
  13. I have Unicorn stage 2. BCS downpipe Forge inlet pipe Ram air panel filter Unicorn DSG remap This is probably the most "economical" way to stage 2 (even cheaper if you fit a 'lesser' make downpipe), and it is still quite frankly, insanely fast. Been running for nearly a year with zero reliability issues. Dyno'd at 390bhp/390 torque. Even in this hot weather, the lack of aftermarket intercooler isn't effecting performance. I don't track my car mind (in which case I would fit a I/C), but I have never experienced any timing pull or loss of performance even in this hot weather. V-box recorded at 0-60 in 3.4 seconds. TBH, after driving in all seasons now, I probably wont bother with an aftermarket intercooler unless I go for a hybrid or full on stage 3, which although tempting, is really academic as the performance from the tune I have is actually fast enough for the road. I have £7,000 saved for a new motorbike fund and although that sort of cash would put me in the 500-600 bhp club, on a daily real world 'road going' basis, it's not going to make that much difference to how quick I get home after work (a nice Ducati would cut through the traffic queues quite nicely on a sunny day though!).
  14. There is nothing wrong with the UKs rules on under/overtaking, it’s just that people don’t follow these rules correctly. As previously mentioned, the ideal solution would be to have those existing rules correctly followed/enforced. I too lived in the states for a while, and yes, you are always going to get some idiot who takes the piss, but generally speaking, the grass was greener when it came to lane discipline. Im aware that they have far higher accident/fatality rates, but that is more down to other issues (drink driving being a big one).
  15. It genuinely is a real issue though. I do a 66 mile round trip most days and the motorway/dual carriageway sections are clogged by lane hoggers that create rolling road-blocks between 40-60mph. I'm sure a law was introduced a few years ago to crackdown on this, but nothing seems to have happened. It's a 2 fold as well... 1. It increases frustration of other drivers when they can't safely pass, leading to... 2. Undertaking, which is the norm in the rest of the world, but is regarded as super dangerous in the UK. Either a proper crackdown on lane hogging is required, or legalise undertaking, which with the current limited and stretched police resources seems like the eaiser option.
  16. Sorry folks, was tongue in cheek! Need to remember I'm not at work!

  18. I remember spotting it at pure gym, then again the next day at ikea braehead. Seems we frequent the same places lol! Gym membership cancelled until December now anyway so I won’t see you there for a while!

    JUMPED SHIP

Congrats shipmate! This is my plan too, Keep the golf at stage 2 for the next 2 years until I leave the mob, then going for an RS3 - lightly tuned to 500bhp of course! And of course in the best colour - Battleship grey! 😆
  20. I would bet my mortgage on the fact that your pump isn't working, or at least working correctly! Every filter taken out so far has been filthy, and that includes lower mileage, reasonably gently driven cars. Mine had similar mileage/age to yours, in fact it's newer, and it was absolutely minging, and I drive mine with a great deal of mechanical sympathy. Could be something simple that once corrected, could completely transform how your car feels and unleash its true potential! Like going from a Leon Cupra to a Golf R!!!
  21. Unfortunately, that's probably how he's going to have to live the rest of his life. I'm sure the dead guy's family/friends will see him as a 'troubled scallywag' who didn't deserve to die! If I was the pensioner in question, I would have my house extra tooled up, and be wearing a dynamite vest for the rest of my days, so at least I could take the retribution gang with me when they inevitably come for revenge!

Well it was to me ☹️ Only joking 🙃

    What a c...

    !!! Age spoiler!!!
  24. LOL, to be fair, that old guy looks in pretty good shape for 78, and a bit of a unit as well! They really did pick the wrong house! Don't do the crime and all that!
  25. This thread is making me feel a little smug about my 'modest' 390bhp -390ft/lb stage 2 engine! It might actually last the duration of my ownership without having a meltdown! 😋
