  1. Anybody had their alarm go off yet? Is it just a case of unlock car and it should deactivate? mine went off yesterday, I couldn’t deactivate it. Ended up going for a very loud drive for 10 minutes then it was fine! Couldn’t see any way of deactivating it from the dash, tried everything I could think of ignition, key presses etc but nothing.
  2. As I posted in another thread, the mk8 key auto sleeps so keyless theft on these shouldn’t be an issue without a faraday pouch etc - not heard of one going yet. I’ve tested this myself but not with whatever the tea leaves use obviously! back to the old days of breaking in tooled up it is.. so secure doors and windows properly along with a good quality proper perimeter alarm and anti bump/snap/pick locks and that should see them moving on to the next target. I’m not a fan of the ghost on a mk8 for this reason, if they need to get in for the key then you know they will be back for the code as they already have access the house. ive got a video doorbell covering the car with motion alerts set up also, but tbh if they want it enough they’ll get it whatever you do.
  3. No - I was going to book it in after lockdown as I’ve not used it a lot and I hadn’t really pinpointed the issue, wether it was me, or possibly bends it was slowing for etc and I couldn’t recreate it easily. Weirdly it was worse In acc mode but then in travel assist mode it wouldn’t do it. 150 miles across country yesterday and it was brilliant , 150 back today and the bug came back and it was a nightmare. I had 110 limit signs on the dash, every time it saw a speed sign it broke down to the mph equivalent. As soon as I restarted it it was fine. Will be booking it In tomorrow
  4. On a security note, just decided to try and test the ‘go to sleep’ security on the car keys. Rest it on the door handle and lock and unlock using the handle is fine, try every minute or so and after a few minutes the key sleeps and it won’t work. Seems to work fine - I don’t think faraday pouches are required on the 8r as once the key is asleep there is no signal to bounce. Of course unless anybody has the kit no easy way to test this 😂 Anybody know for definite that when the key is asleep it can’t be repeated? That’s what the Vw info seems to give away but there’s no firm info on it.
  5. Given they are lower offset so will stick out further, and be fit those little arch protection things to models with 19’s - I’d be worried they’d catch the arch in some situations.
  6. 22mpg. if I include the delivery miles in the average it’s 25mpg bang on. But that’s cheating I suppose 😂
  7. Yep - I wrapped it with black tape just to have a look how it would go with the blue in the headlights as I wasn’t sure - but it looks really good. The only thing stopping me doing it myself properly is taking the blue bit off requires removal of the front badge and I don’t want to set errors off so I’m going to try and have someone wrap it in situ if possible.
  8. Lots of gloss black sets the white off nicely. Wouldn’t black the skirts though. Wheels next 🤔
  9. I’ve put them up in the loft now but basically if you imagine the hole the blind spot light goes Into, it has a tab left and right you release but it also has like teeth (5 I think) which just grip which aren’t on a tab. So you can’t squeeze them In - they leave a mark. You can just see it if you look in the gap between the light and the mirror cover. link is above from wrex. Edit: if you look at my first picture zoom in on the silver cap and you can see the 2 holes left behind. Not a massive issue I just thought they might be vizible in the eye line.
  10. Received the black mirror caps today, VW China stamped so not sure on them actually being vw - all the right numbers etc on them but didn’t look quite as well made as the originals stamped Vw Hungary. fitting was easy enough , old caps came off easily, blind spot lights are a kind of destructive fit, leaves a little mark when you remove them but wouldn’t be that visible if you returned to standard. getting them back on was trickier - now I’ve sussed it would only be a 10 minute job. Look good.
  11. On a similar topic and back to the quick questions.. a post on fb earlier about the golf having some kind of signal blocking aerials built in to prevent against keyless theft had me doing a bit of Googling. I think that’s nonsense , but there’s talk of the VW fobs shutting down after a couple of minutes of no motion. Anybody know if this is the case? My key flashes red whilst I move around with it but goes off soon as I put it down - is this the keyless theft solution so we don’t need faraday pouches?
  12. Tongue in cheek - i do leave it in quiet driving around the residential bits normally especially at night , these cars get enough unwanted attention as it is!! 😂
  13. Try pushing the buttons with the car off and you realise they’re not even buttons.. mind blown. It’s like on my iPhone, my brain can still not compute how it’s pushing a button but it’s not actually a button when you turn the phone off... 🤯 wizardry I actually have sound in pure I think now you mention it - basically I wanted the exhaust valves opening but no soundaktor. Comfort steering just lightens it off nicely then I can flick into sports for ‘race’ or D for just driving through town. Another little tip for the sound is if I leave late or early I push start with my foot off the brake first to put the ignition on then put it into quiet mode and start the car - I get a couple of streets away before turning the volume up 🤣 if you start it in sport and scroll through to comfort it goes via race and you get scowls from the neighbours! no DCC on mine. I mentioned in your other thread it’s the one regret on this one, but being a lease I wasn’t paying for lots of options. If I replace it with (maybe a facelift) in 3 years I’ll hopefully buy and DCC will be a must. (Along with everything else I wanted 😂)
  14. no idea on drain hole, exhaust tips are better on 7 IMO, they were a full sleeve and nice whereas now it’s like a half lip almost and quite chunky. The inner is the actual tailpipe you can see the line between the 2. Also means you can’t change tips as easily. You are correct on brakes and bonnet, tyres are a lottery of a few types, I got potenzas, and you are under the 40k with a base spec, you can get about £1500 of options before you pony up for the tax.
  15. It bugs me too. I typically I use the one just before the R view, so I have to roll all the way back to the big Rev counter. Now I’ve got individual mode set up to put everything in loud mode apart from steering in comfort, I just soft press the r button twice to put it in individual and everything is correct then and my view is the right one. Hands up if you’d worked out hard press on the R put it in R mode and soft press cycles the driving modes 🤣
  16. Yeah I have that used it last time - the trim clips aren’t the same though. I’ve managed to get it up behind the airbag and out - I really wanted it up well into the headlining to avoid any noise but I’ve given up for now 😂
  17. Anybody attempted this yet - it’s a pita. Even the airbag panel was a sod to get to. I can see what I think is a 2 stage clip similar to the 7 under the airbag but it doesn’t seem to release the same way, it has a metal retaining lug I can move but doesn’t seem to free it up. Trying to avoid airbag explosions 😂
  18. Yes, definitely was the only major option I ticked. Hate dark cabins. My 7 was replaced under warranty and had a noise I think I caused wiring the dashcam, I could complain about the 8 as it definitely opens up smaller. Would be far better if they made it an actual pano roof it’s really just a sunroof. I’d probably say I wouldn’t be bothered of it didn’t open if it was a full glass roof. Still wouldn’t be without it.
  19. Totally agree, although everyone’s opinion differs. if I’m honest I would prefer a tcr to the 8r. I was very close when I found a grey 3dr at VW for very good money last year - regretted not having it then but had to wear the sensible hat. I think although it is a better car than the 7, it still lacks that kind of soul that the TCR had. FWD and 300bhp, same with the new CS, I look at them and prefer that to the R. The R is the sensible choice for all year round power without being too in your face, but always lacks something against the special fwd editions. When you consider what you can lease the 8r for with very little up front, it also makes a second hand tcr seem very expensive!
  20. The ones from your link, gloss black. Will report back, hopefully not too much of a mare to fit
  21. Gave in and ordered a key cover today.. i didnt want one as the gloss key looks much nicer than the silicone covers.. but less than a month in its more scratches than gloss! 😂 The ali express mirror covers have found their way onto what will probably be a slow boat from china so hopefully have those in a few weeks, which made me go look at the originals - and the first cost cutting complaint i have! They wont be staying on so im not going to get too grumpy, but they are silver painted not brushed aluminium! Tightwads 🤨 Also ordered a bonnet gas strut kit or 3, thought id chuck a couple on ebay to cover my costs a bit. Has anyone bought any of the tech stuff from ali express? First time ive used it and i got a bit down the rabbit hole. Reversing camera and wiring kit came in at about £220, supposed to be oem but im a bit cagey about anything that could go wrong like that and having no comeback. Anything else on there i should be ordering?
  22. As above, i took it out, got a refund on sale of vehicle but luckily never used it, went in once out of warranty and it got sorted without needing to claim under a technical bulletin. Its cheap peace of mind and vw backed, although it is really an insurance policy not a warranty. Bear in mind the price differences people experience is timing, iirc it is 30 days before the warranty expires until just after, so get it sorted before the original runs out. It nearly doubles if you try and purchase the extended warranty out of the original 3 yr warranty.
  23. Thanks, don’t worry, i will have a look this weekend i think. It worries me as i hate little creaks and rattles and being pan roof i fear im going to create more! The biggest drawback to early adoption is nobody else has cocked it up first to learn from! 😂 Nice review and write up by the way. Makes me somewhat question my poverty spec!
  24. Don't suppose you saw how he routed the dash cam wires to the mirror? I ran the last one just tucked up in the front headlining to the centre but it made a rubbing noise forever after which really bugged me, but i wasn't brave enough to try and drop the headlining down to find the factory wire clips.
