Health to enjoy it - you’ve got a cracking example of an R20

Seen this posted on the GTI Forum which I’m sure will interest quite a few on here there are now a limited range of functions available within both of the above APPS for the 8.5. OBDeleven has a greater range of functions available including some adaptation etc, both have a range of one click options available, but the most important one that I have been looking for since day one, is the ability to permanently switch off lane assist, I do this every trip manually as it just doesn’t work safely in my opinion, particularly on unclassified roads near my home, Carista now has the option to set this as remembering the last status set, so if you switch it off it now stays off until you switch it on again, even after a restart , I can’t see this option in OBDeleven as yet though.

Got it done with the rest of PPF by the detailer I don’t think you could do it yourself and make a good job of it as it is quite a complicated piece to do It was either Xpel or Legend not sure which though

Had to replace the one on my R20 only a few weeks into buying it just need to very careful when cleaning in that are as said by others they are flimsy and easily broken

I did this on my wife's MK8 GTD got the dealer to swap them over as I knew they’d be a nightmare to keep On my R I have mine covered in self healing PPF - makes them so easy keep and simple wipe with a micro fibre is all they need

That’s it collected hand over went smoothly no dramas Strange not to have a white car as I’ve been driving one for nearly 10 years The blue does look well especially when the sun was out Initial impressions at sensible speed's was it drives pretty much the same as the R20 though the Pilot 4s tyres on the R20 were quieter not hugely though Definitely a nicer front on the new one and the new rear lights make it a more modern looking The infotainment is definitely quicker though I’d prefer it to be slightly smaller seems easy enough to use and definitely an upgrade on the previous system Once I get a few miles on it I’ll get a better idea and comparison between the two cars When I was collecting it a 3 door Mk7 Clubsport was sitting for sale - brought back memories of my CSS - definitely the best Golf produced. If only VW were to do something as special for the 50th Anniversary of the Golf GTI I’d be first in line to order one ! Until then if it ever happens I’ll enjoy this one Now to get used to turning off start stop , the assist systems and speed warnings before I drive off - I did enquire with the senior tech but he said the VW system won’t allow them to disable these - and he’s been asked numerous times to do so

Collection this afternoon a few photos from the detailers just sent to me PPF, ceramic coating and ACF applied to the underside. Looking forward to collecting it and comparing it to the R20

Use black gloss PPF it’s a much better finish Had thought of doing mine but after seeing the body colour on the roof I’ll leave it for now - might do it at a later date

Would anyone have any idea on the value/ what you could advertise for of a set of Estoril wheels with the blue highlights that came on the R20. Possible private buyer for my car but he wants it with Racing line 360 wheels I have on. The R20 wheels were removed before I collected the car so as new with Hankook tyres. Another possibly is to diamond cut the blue off them or repaint completely and keep as spare set for the new R

Got the new car delivered to the detailers today for them to hopefully work their magic and get the PPF applied and the ceramic coating done The glass bar the front screen will be coated as will the wheels and brake calliper's also getting a coating on the front wheel arches which will hopefully help with future cleaning Also going to wing mirror indicators tinted Hopefully I will pick up from the dealers the beginning of the month Left a few bits with them to fit - aero wipers ,aluminium dead pedal , new number plates , R visor decals , internal and external cill protectors , warning triangle and the navigation and dash screen tempered glass protectors, spare wheel and toolkit and boot protector Have ordered Blaze carbon wheel arch guards but they are yet to arrive Will have another few bits to do also but again waiting on parts to arrive or i have to order them Think I’ll remove the R door badges and the wheel arch winglets will also be taken off Still deliberating on wether to add a side strip as I did on my R20 and also wrapping the roof both these would be done in black PPF and also wether to fit black wing mirrors caps and the darkened indicators . I may just leave it for now and then decide and I can always do them in a few weeks So another week or so and I should have the new one on the drive Will miss the R20 and it’s been pretty much faultless in the time with it - only one issue with the interior light which was quickly resolved- I just hope the new is as good !!

Just been reading about the lane assist on the forum am I correct in thinking ODIS can turn this off Assuming that’s the case a may ask the senior tech in the dealership if he can do this - though they may well be prohibited from doing so Alternatively I will see if any of the local specialists can do it Or is it possible this can be done remotely ?

Does the Mk8.5 come with a proper Handbook or if not is it possible to request one from the dealer Also has anyone yet managed to be able to permanently turn off lane assist I have seen various posts that it’s not able to do it in a similar manner to the MK8

If it was to go very close to the March date I would hold off registration but it’s not a big deal as our plates are dateless (though I’ll put my own plate on) The year is all that is important in relation to the value on cars here

Yes dealer will hold onto it should only be a few weeks max until the detailer can take it

As soon as it’s PPF’d and coated I’ll collect the car I’m not interested in parking it until March as it doesn’t affect values on N. Ireland cars Frontal PPF sideskirts and all of the gloss black trims including the centre console

Got the phone call today to say the car had arrived - quicker than I thought it would Lapiz Blue non black edition Had a quick look at it after work and all looks good from what I see but sitting outside in the rain I didn’t look at it for too long No boot mat or blinds in the boot though I’m not worried about that as I have my own boot liner and wouldn’t have fitted the blinds anyway Hankook tyres on the Diamond cut Warmenau will see what they are like and I’ve Pilot 4 S’s to fit if need be Will be a while before I can collect as it’s going for PPF and the ceramic coating first and the detailers are busy Not in a big rush to get it as the weather is rubbish at the minute anyways

No info as yet mine will have slightly further to travel across the sea to here so may well be a while longer before it arrives
