Officially the tyres and brakes need around 300 miles to be at their best - so from a safety point of view it's not the wisest move, but if there was nowt in front of you and you're still here, no harm done.

From a mechanical sympathy point of view, you let the engine get warm first - that's most important. From a bedding in perspective, i'd rather give a warm engine a bit of a workout than completely baby it. lots of varied driving and engine braking (to establish a good piston ring seal) is the general consensus on the way to go. Personally i'd only use 3/4 of the performance on a warm engine while running in, but I wouldn't sweat the occasional incursion.

If you won't keep the car beyond warranty then you've absolutely nothing to worry about. VW engineer these to last years of abuse with harder piston rods and loads of other stuff over and above the GTI engine block - there will be plenty of people treating their R meaner than you, no doubt.

Yep. I'm unconfirmed bw7. They told me on the phone last week it should be confirmed by Wednesday. I've been stage 2 now since Oct

That's the same as me I was as low as BW5 at one point but climbed back up to BW7 although still unconfirmed.  The dealer still believe it will be with them for the first half of March can't see it myself  :fight:

Mine was BW51 (commencing 14th December) I'm collecting 14th Jan AND the car sat in Germany for two weeks over Xmas. Mid March is doable, just.

You poor sod - that's poor timing.  Mine was BW50 and was in the UK within a week of leaving the factory.  It was an incredibly fast turnaround having sat on Stage 2 for close to 6 months.

However I'm not collecting until the 15th, so you're still getting your car quicker :-(

Is that at dealers? When did you get 5a?

5a is "in transit: left factory", 5b is "in transit: Shipping", so hopefully all tucked up on a nice boat which wont be running aground in the channel.

I got 5a Thursday morning (8th) so didn't spend too long at the port, dealer reckons it will be fairly fast to get to them, he has been fairly spot on so far, so I am inclined to believe it. :)

Only issue is I need to renew my insurance on the 17th! so methinks I'll be taking advantage of the two week standard cancellation fee.

my dealer is also a mate so he's not the type to tell me ' too' many porkies. He said to set my sights on driving her awayat the start of April. I'm happy enough with that

Mine arrived yesterday.  Still haven't driven it properly because I've been detailing it while it's still properly clean.  I have posted a blow-by-blow blog of the detailing process in the Detailing your R section.  Certainly looks nice - just waiting for it to stop raining now so I can get it out of the garage to take some photos.

Brilliant, thanks for the advice.
