Lemar
Can I get the replacement mirror or is it the whole sun visor needed
Stobsie
I'm not 100% sure but would think it's going to be a replacement visior, how on earth did that happen ?
JoeGTI7
I did the same thing several months ago. Thought I heard a rattle from that area and I was in foul humour at the time so I tried a good old fashioned fist thump... I contemplated ordering a new visor - but tbh, I just slid the cover closed and forgot about it until I read this thread! JoeGTI7
Anyway to answer your original question, you do need to replace the whole visor, which costs around 100 quid. Don't think VW sell the glass separately and even if you got it, it would be a bugger to fit. I removed what was left of mine and it took a bit of effort to pull it out. Spv
Found mine was cracked after having the car 12 months, figured I would try and fix before buying knew and it can be done! Front surround trim pulls off, carefully and I'll unclip all the way round. Next you need to remove the sliding door, there are two metal springs, one top and one bottom, subtle so don't loose them, there also greesed for smooth running. Once the door is out, the broken mirror can be removed, it's just sticky back adhesive. I used a small 15cm plastic ruler to free it. Replaced broken mirror with a plastic one cut to size online, 70cm x 130 x 3mm thick. Cost me about £7 delivered. Stick new mirror into the right hand side, gap to the left is space for reinstalling the slide door. Reinstall door, you want to locate one of the 'legs' in it's runner and then push/pop the second into place, greese runners, clean up excess and check smooth running. Reinstall surround trim, will only fit one way be sure to align clip positions, click click click all way round, done. Easy and about £120 cheaper than a new sunvisor. Booth11
@Spv Nice guide. You should copy this over to a thread in the How To section.
Mich
Hi @Spv, I have the same problem, my daughter accidentally broke both my Golf 7 Tsi visor mirrors. It would be a great help if you could maybe advise how you removed the trim. Its a very tight fit and I am scared I will damage the surrounding material or the trim. Spv
Gently pulled and prised until the clips gave way, you can see in the second/third photo the clips are along the top and bottom edges. I believe I started at the end with card/ticket holder as it’s easier to get underneath. Support the plastic frame close to the clips as you pull it out to help ensure you don’t twist the frame over its length. Removing the frame is fairly easy, I had no issues. keep an eye on the springs that add door friction so you have an insight as to how it goes back together. Good luck with it.
