Sound & sports pack (GTD)

MK7 Golf GTD

Recommended Posts

Nothing to do with the sound system.

Basically in the Sport & Sound pack you get, red brake calipers and a straight through exhaust (no back box) with a sound actuator in there which generates sound in the exhaust - the same thing used on RS Audi's and certain Mercs. It sounds really good.

We had one that was certainly quicker than the standard GTD we test drove but could never get any confirmation that the map was different, probably just to do with the straight through exhaust.

Search youtube for "Golf GTD Sport & Sound pack" for videos demoing the sounds :)

I think the sound pack enables the selection of various engine type sounds.

Massey Fergusson

New Holland

John Deere

Fendt

London Taxi

VW have said they really stretched the performance of the ability of the Soundaktor.

although making a 4 pot diesel sound like a tractor can't really be that hard ;)

Cheers for that info.. The reason I asked was because I went to look at a pure white GTD on Saturday there and it was meant til have the "Sports & sound pack" but the car didn't have red brake calipers, and I'm not even 100% sure if it had the straight through exhaust..
As when I mentioned it to the salesman he wasn't even sure 😒

Pictures below

Top is normal exhaust

Bottom is Sport/sound pack exhaust

You can see the round part (12) this has the speaker in it that makes the GTD sound better....

SQ5 TDI uses same system on both sides of its exhaust.

Audi RS cars actually have exhaust flaps that open and close during different stages of the Rev range......

Here's a better explanation picture.

I could have sworn some of the RS models had these as well. I saw a vid of TTRS I think that had an additional noise option above Dynamic, it sounded like the noise make in the Golf. They have a tell tale sound, first time I heard a Merc with one it sounded a lot like a Golf :D

Cheers for posting up all that stuff, I couldn't find it on my PC.

If it doesn't have red calipers it doesn't have sport and sound, they were not available separately. If it does have red calipers you just need to look under the back bumper, if there's a exhaust box running sideways across the width of the bumper then it's a standard car. If it has the S&S pack the two tail pipes go back to the centre silencer as per the diagrams above.

It's worth adding that not many cars have it as VW UK described it wrong in the options list - they made it sound like it was only the internal soundaktor nothing else :D The GTD comes with one as standard like all other performance Golfs.
