Time for front brakes - Godspeed inside.
mountaincourse replied to Dan-T's topic in Modifying your Golf R MK7
Excellent discs. I ran these on my MK7.5 Golf R did ring trip in it and UK track days no issues at all. I ran Pagid RS29 pads on these discs. I have a MK7 R now and these will be the discs I will get when my current ones are done. Not sure what pads to go for yet. Probably endless. How are the godspeed pads?? -

These wheels look great. Just noticed you are also Cotswold based. We have some great roads round here!

R Estate - downpipe with resonator delete
mountaincourse replied to anvais's topic in Modifying your Golf R MK7
Hi Anvais, Firstly nice move going for Stage 2 I am booked in with Rtech later this week to have my R remapped ECU & TCU tune. I'm running decat downpipe and res delete (along with other mods) and I think this set up is absolutely perfect. I haven't done any long journeys in the car yet but so far so good. cruising around it's not v loud at all in the cabin but hit the throttle/build revs above 3k and it sings. Not revved it out yet as waiting for the map to be done first. So I will report back once that has been done. But it's a thumbs up from me. I'd put the decat downpipe on and see how you feel. It's all good posting on forums to get peoples feedback but everyones view is subjective so only way is to try really. PM me if you have any questions, I don't always get the time to check on the forum for posts. Cheers and good luck. Dom -

I didn't think they offered custom mapping? thought it was off the shelf APR maps that they do -

Thank you. Really? I sometimes think I shouldn't have been so tight and bought another 7.5 but the 7 seemed like such a bargain in comparison. The 7.5 still has some further depreciation to come too I think. Almost certain that will be my next car. Honestly, it is the only car I miss. I have had Nissan GTRs running big power etc and nothing comes close to the all rounded enjoyment of an R. Will work out how to put up pics and start a thread for the car.

is it a v noticeable difference then? Will upload some photos soon. Not sure how to do that though lol

Yes, I am certain the fuel economy is noticeably worst than my old 7.5...
-
Thank you. To be determined lol. I've had it a week and so far done resonator delete, upgraded the paddles and put my private plate on (if you can call that a mod?!). The car is currently under warranty for 12 months as I bought it from a VW dealership. So once that has expired I will likely remap the car (not decided who to use yet) maybe by VRS Northampton or MRC as they are both relatively near to me. I am very tempted to do full bolt ons but I think it is deminishing returns over and above just a remap in terms of the cost. So prob map it change the wheels and tyres and poss upgrade brake pads and side skirts/splitter.

Thank you. It's great to be back. Erm, well the MK7 Vs the 7.5 is firstly very good value for money. That's the biggest upside IMO. In terms of overall difference the 7.5 is no question a better car. But I couldn't justify it this time round. Virtual cockpit, Pro nav, gearbox seem to be the biggest noticeable differences to me by far and of course subtle exterior differences, skirts etc etc. Problem is my 7.5 spec was pretty much as good as it gets so I am trying NOT to compare otherwise it will send me round the twist. I'll likely buy another 7.5 in a year or two time. I definitely agree with you re best all rounder available. And I don't just mean for the $. I test drove A45, RS3, Civic Type R all the usual culprits and to me the DRIVE was by far the best for ripping around the twisties on a B road. Yes, the others are faster out the box and sound better and better interior but the feel and drive of the R is another level.

Well I had a few other cars for a bit, one was paddle shift and big power 4wd, the other RWD and the other front wheel drive to cover all the bases lol. I often run multiple cars then over time get p*ssed off and go back to one all rounder again. so here we are I love the DSG I'd never buy a manual R. For me a manual has to be a toy it's too irritating for a daily. But I might just be getting old and miserable!

Thanks. LOL, It does seem that way....

Congrats. I love the colour. Great choice. I can’t recommend the VW racing line paddles enough. I’ve had them on both the Golf Rs I’ve owned. Usually one of my first mods. Enjoy....

Hi all, So I’m back in another VW Golf R this time a MK7 another DSG. Picked it up a week ago. Really enjoying it. I owned a MK7.5 Golf R a couple of years ago when they first came out. Loved that car. Great spec etc. Had a number of other cars since, running 2-3 cars but now gone back to a 1 car garage and the R is such a great all rounder and the only car I missed out of all the others I’ve owned over the years (and there’s been a few!) lol. Looking forward to some R chat on here. 😈 Cheers,
