I’m afraid I can’t help with the DSG query, but I was surprised at your reference to 93 octane fuel. Isn’t the minimum to use 95?

For cars up to six years old you can buy VW’s ‘all in’ package which, amongst service plan and recovery, gives extended warranty. Highly recommend it once initial three year warranty expires to ensure ongoing warranty cover.

My Tiguan R is five years old with 40k miles and I’ve just had to replace the front off side brake calliper. Eighteen months ago the front near side one needed replacing. In both cases they were sticking, though the nearside one was much worse than the off side one. Both were done under warranty - thank goodness for VW’s all-in! I’m just interested in other’s experiences with their callipers and whether this is normal. I also had the front and rear brake discs and pads replaced. First time for the fronts and second set for the rear. The pads still had life in them but the discs were pitted and scored (MoT advisory). Again, just interested in other owners’ experiences with disc longevity.

I thought the fix for this was a new steering wheel, which I believe some owners have had under warranty. The issue also affects Tiguans.

Looks as though perhaps fitted wrong part. Not great.

If your tyres are directional, you can’t just swap the front wheels side to side, you’d need to remove the tyre from the current rim and refit to the other rim, turning the tyre in the process so that it’s still rolling in the correct orientation.

Good to hear it’s getting sorted under warranty. Many years ago I had similar issue with a Volvo headlamp unit and that too was eventually replaced under warranty.

In my experience, the price you get quoted includes these. But I guess it may vary. Not great though to be given a price and then to be hit with a further £3k bill.

Currently £620 pa for the likes of an R for first five years, IIRC.

Just changed my battery after getting the warning on the dash. The battery has been in the fob since Feb 2024, I think. But it wasn’t a ‘VW’ battery.

Welcome to Tiguan R ownership. You can’t say you’ve done some small modifications and then not say what they are!

The car was under warranty, and I just had the dealer sort it. So, I’m afraid I don’t know what it entailed. But it needed a new part. I think it was a couple of hundred quids worth of a repair, though, because I remember thinking I hadn’t quite got my money’s worth from the warranty🤭

Unless it’s the malfunctioning paddles😂

I think they want rid of the black ones and want either diamond cut or gun metal in return.

Wow. That sounds very quick, especially for an insurance job.

And thankfully they haven’t played mix and match with the wing mirror housing colour, like they did with the R20. Imagine if they’d just stuck red wing mirrors on all Ed50s!

Wish VW had offered me some sort of compensation when my turbo needed replacing. Six weeks without the car whilst the part was awaited and fitted, and nothing from VW. At least they honoured the warranty.

The R engine can be surprisingly frugal when given the chance.

If you’re keeping the car as stock I think the All in plan is a no brainer (especially with 20% off). I certainly got my money’s worth out of it when I had to have a brake caliper and then the turbo replaced under warranty.
