holy_piranha started following Evo Magazine - Tyre Test 2025
-
In last year's 2024 Evo Tyre Test, the team used a Mk8 GTI (for objective testing) and the 'more tactile' Mk7 GTI (for handling tests & the road route). This year, it's the turn of a BMW 135i xDrive to act as test car. 2025 sees changes in the Top 3 - and the No.1 choice may surprise you. I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts, feedback and experiences. Enjoy!

As a die-hard Mk7 aficionado, this Instagram post earlier this week from CH brightened my day π. The comment underneath his post was also cool... from Andy Preuninger -- the boss of Porsche GT products (like that gorgeous red 911 GT3 RS just behind the Golf) -- for 20+ years π€.

@speedjunkie I'd agree that it shouldn't be that bad. But given that it is, I'm with @Booth11 - a pedal box transforms the driving experience. And that comes from someone who had big reservations about such a device before buying one!

CAR magazine 4 Apr 2025 https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-reviews/comparison/2025/vw-golf-r-vs-mercedes-amg-a35-vs-bmw-m135/ Great group test from Ben Barry. So, what do you reckon? ... Place your bets! π *** SPOILER *** 1st: VW Golf R Best to drive, easy to live with and drastically improved. Even the infotainmentβs better. β β β β 2nd: Mercedes-AMG A35 Fabulously gritty feel with compliant chassis, responsive drivetrain. Too much road noise and unyielding seats. β β β β 3rd: BMW M135 Agile, highly capable chassis let down by excess isolation and often unyielding suspension. β β β *** SPOILER *** πͺ π π€

Mod friendly insurers, whom are you insured with?

Adrian Flux are usually a really solid bet for modified cars π -
Hey, Don! Thanks for your reply & the info. That functionality would indeed make a huge amount of sense... Heated wing mirrors automatically turn themselves down / off after a set amount of minutes. And that may well be the case. All I know for sure - based on my experience, as opposed to my views - is that I switched mine on and, mistakenly, left them on for ~40 mins. After that ~40 mins, my drivers side wing mirror glass was no longer there π. I visited my nearest VW main dealer, explained what had happened and they replaced the mirror glass under warranty [Mar '17 car; part replaced under warranty in Nov '21; part (exc. fitting): Β£67.91 inc. VAT]. Hence - in my experience - I'd advise to err on the side of caution and be sure to switch them off ... just in case. π Rob
-
Just to reiterate Jace ... Remember to twist the heated mirror setting to off as soon as the mirror is clear. If not, you might well be missing a mirror somewhere down the road. #beenthereanddonethat π£

They're really starting to steal a march over Michelin, Bec - and I say that as a long-term PS4/5 fan.
