Bridgestone S001 differences!

I have no idea what the "S" is supposed to stand for, and I have already made my opinion known on Michelin's naming conventions (ie it sucks).

I think Michelin regard the PS4S as the logical replacement for PSS in most (but not all ? ) sizes, with the PS4S having significantly better wet road grip.  IIRC Michelin were going to keep making some special OEM PSS variants (eg for Porsche, BMW, Merc ? ) for an unspecified time after most non-OEM PSS tyres were discontinued.

I think I read somewhere that Michelin have released an 18" PS4S in the USA only, but it isn't a "true" PS4S and is only slightly better than the PS4.  Everywhere else PS4S tyres are only available in 19" or bigger sizes.

I've used P Zero's for years now, went through a few sets on my Rocco GT (I actually slid my way through a full set in eight months, oops). I love the way they feel... there has been a bit of negative marketing for them, but they have just enough grip to feel secure, but allow enough of a slip to make high speed cornering feel that bit more tingly in the undergarments.

Running Bridgestones on my 7.5R at the moment, not sure which, they came with the car. They'll be going in the garage when I swap out the stock wheels after Christmas (not sure my missus would appreciate me treating myself to £1600 worth of wheels and tyres then give her a £50 Amazon voucher as a gift 😉 - the lady comes before the missus right?).

My R came with the S001's and I have always said to my lady I don't think these tyres do the car justice at all. My mark 6 GT140 is running MPSS and the difference is night and day, I feel I can drive the car far harder in anyy condition compared to the R. I just don't trust the tyre, I don't feel there is any feeling or good grip from them. They are 2353519 andrunning 35psi.

Bridgestone is a good tyre -  as it is very predictable and uniform in the way it consistently performs both wet and dry.

Those are all characteristics of 'good' tyres.    However predictable does not equal grippy tyre.

I had last R shipped with Bridgestone RE050s, an even less grippy tyre than the S001.  Sort of fun and easy to drive as it's limits are low and progressive.   Didn't really do the R chassi justice imho.

So changing from RE050s to MPSSs in early summer 2016, was a revelation, wet and dry, day and night.    Dry warm grip at front end was transformed.

My new R is on Contis, after 1000 miles, I haven't rally pushed them, and we are in cooler months, but I look forward to swapping them out for MP4s's , when I see a little deal ro sales window in the current Michelin pricing, which is very steep for 19s.
