Anyway, I tried it today and it seems fine although it was wet and I did get a bit of wheel spin so the car backed off the power a little and it dropped below full boost down to 3000rpm, other wise it was fine. I was referring to the "Owners Manual" not the manual R, sorry for any confusion. You have the mash your foot on the brake bit that's correct, but I would guess the throttle is about 3/4 of the way down to achieve the best launch. Obviously as soon as you have moved off you should then mash the throttle. My MY17 R Estate has it on page 160. I've tried both methods back to back, and holding it at 3200rpm gives an almost instant hard launch after releasing the brake, whereas 4000rpm has a slight delay and a softer launch. That's the car trying not to kill itself.. The 4000rpm limiter is a torque limiter to limit the amount of damage that could be done to the transmission and all other components. The manual R's will have that, my Focus ST had it and pretty sure most modern cars will have some sort of torque limiter. mike150
mike150
When I do launch the car there seems to be a metallic slipping sound from the back diff, like the drive to the diff slips for a few tenths of a second. It sounds like I'm doing it damage so I have made a vow to stop launching! I've only done a few😞
Golf r dk
On 28/01/2018 at 11:36, mike150 said: Ok, so I've not had my R long. 16 Dsg with 15K and a really cared for car. I read the manual one day about the launch control and had to try it. Tc, one short press Race mode on Dsg to manual Foot on brake Foot on throttle Go! All's good as it was fast and no apparent problem I got the Revo stage 1 last week and tried the launch that day. Really quick and all ok. I tried it 2 days ago and Im not sure but I think I left it in individual mode which I have the same as Race bar the gearbox being in sport. A second after launch the car seemed to cut the power for a few tenths while still in first gear and then it went again. I thought this odd but thought maybe it should be in race mode or maybe the Tc needs to completely off. Last night I tried launch again and again had it in individual mode but with the Tc completely off. It initially went great but again after a second it cut the power but this time it seemed to keep the revs at about 4000 but lost all drive for half a second, then it went again as normal. It was like the dsg had lost first gear!!!! I should have tried it again last night with race mode on but I was fearfull of it. I probably need to do that to at least rule it out. I'm concerned about it. Is it simply me not putting it race mode or is something wrong????? Mine does it aswell I got no idea why man.... Boostedboy
Mine has started to do this. And can’t figure this out. Is there any update on this?
oryxgolfr
You have to have your foot HARD on the brake pedal, I’ve made the mistake of not quite hard enough. TC can be reduced or off to launch.
Boostedboy
Strange as been launching it about twice a week for the last two years and just starting to get this issue. I will give that a go tonight tho 👍🏻.
