kurgen34
Hi all, I've been a member for a while but 1st post. Picking up a new 8R on Monday. Spec is Lapiz, pano roof and DCC. Swapped my 68 plate m3 comp. Will miss the m3 but R is just as quick in real life and much more user friendly.. also can do a few track days and trips to the Ring. Question.. nervous about security.. are they still easy to steal without a key.? I have a stop lok that fits through steering wheel but only like using if absolutely necessary. Cheers Rob

Cheers Rob Welcome along! You can disable keyless entry in the infotainment menu on the mk8 if it worries you. VW have now given that option which I’m sure will be a relief for anyone who has concerns about keyless. But can always also take precautions with the keys such as a faraday pouch or box. Always a risk of course, but no more than the many Rs stolen by breaking in for the keys which is pretty much every report of R theft on this forum (with the mk7/7.5). There’s a very comprehensive pinned thread on security in the General Chat section you might find useful for general security info. gregozedobe

I did see something on YouTube about disabling keyless entry. Will check out the thread in general chat. 👍

But before i get told off by Becs @Booth11 all the info on this is also in the security thread 😀

Nink
As I posted in another thread, the mk8 key auto sleeps so keyless theft on these shouldn’t be an issue without a faraday pouch etc - not heard of one going yet. I’ve tested this myself but not with whatever the tea leaves use obviously! back to the old days of breaking in tooled up it is.. so secure doors and windows properly along with a good quality proper perimeter alarm and anti bump/snap/pick locks and that should see them moving on to the next target. I’m not a fan of the ghost on a mk8 for this reason, if they need to get in for the key then you know they will be back for the code as they already have access the house. ive got a video doorbell covering the car with motion alerts set up also, but tbh if they want it enough they’ll get it whatever you do. gregozedobe and garykane1980
