v7fmp
After just shy of 2 years ownership i said goodbye to my 2017 mk7.5 DSG R. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, but as i now commute to work most days by bike, it seemed a shame to have it sit there. Plus i took a small loan out to cover the costs of the initial purchase, so it was costing me a couple of hundred a month, on top of the usual insurance etc. I decided to move it on. I wasn't keen on selling it privately, what with the usual tyre kickers and the 'ill give you 5k less than your asking but collect today' mob. So i looked into the usual 'easy sell' suspects. I wanted 23k for the car. WBAC were miles away from this. Motorway and Carwow where a few quid more. I ended up going with Carwow. Once i had done all the pics, spoken to them to finalise things, it went to 'auction'. later that day i had a message, the car was sold. £23,705 was the final figure. I was happy with that. A few emails back and forth with the buyer (VW Derby) and it was collected..... after a thorough going over. Thankfully i'm honest, as was the car. So its on to pastures new for me. Something a bit smaller, cheaper and purchased outright. the R was a great companion over the time i had it. A car that could do everything with ease. Truth be told, i drove it in Eco most of the time. But i did get it on track twice and stretched its legs. Its so competent its almost too good. Certainly not as much interaction as a manual car. But devastatingly quick (as the chap in a Cayman GT4 would agree with ). criticisms of the car.... 19 inch wheels looked great, but a tyre with such little sidewalls was murderous at times. I wont have another car like that. but other than that, no real grumbles! I removed my Racing Line stage 3 brake kit, 034 camber top mounts and have my Revo track wheels all to sell, so keep an eye on the classifieds in the next day or two. Finally, i would like to thank this community for answering the questions i had and generally being a great bunch of people. Much love! Ignition1
£23k is a tidy sell for a 2017 - how many miles on it? Smaller and cheaper cars have gone up (but also the S Class?!) but you can get some cracking deals on a bigger car if you're open to that! I might look at a used Jaaaaaag. Always sad to part with good cars, but sounds like you enjoyed your R ownership. Decent selling price too which always softens the blow. Hope your next car fits the bill and you enjoy that too. Thanks for being a member of the VWROC community and hope you still pop by from time to time. 😊 v7fmp

I might look at a used Jaaaaaag. its only had 26,500 miles on it. so fairly low for the age. I was second owner, but other than pretoria's, it was standard trim. Interesting about the price of cars. Defo some food for thought!
gazza5
That is a great price for the car. I'm falling out of love with mine as things just seem to be going wrong (and all at once!), but I am hopoing these will be rectified shortly. Although in the trip to belgium I just had, its been a good car, and does everything well, I will be sad like yourself to get rid, but at times need must. Trouble is I look at cars that are more expensive than the R and then think whats the point! v7fmp
jrw
Keep thinking about mine. Carwow are offering £22k for mine. 2016 with 9800 miles on clock. Reckon I could get £25k all day long privately for it. 🤔 v7fmp
ArchieD
I'm sure you'll miss your golf R. Mine's off the road currently as I blew the engine. Should be back soon as Pro-Race are forging an engine fore me before Devil developments do the mapping with an L560 May be interested in the Revo wheels if the price is right? Do let me know v7fmp
