Can you alter the actual braking response in the 8.5 ?

I think in the 8 you just control the alerts (early, normal, late)

Sorry, I was referring to the alerts but didn’t make that clear.  No you can’t adjust the braking response to my knowledge.

Ah, got it.

So yeah, by making the alert late you’l get the braking before the ping. So that makes less sense.

Normal means the ping comes with the braking, as far as I tried it.

And early means you get 10% head start to ease off and refrain from getting the brake. That’s what I do, and I rarely get the heart attack causing auto braking.

Traffic in my country is a bit more chaotic than yours. Therefore, driving a car like this more difficult here. But I'm 100% sure that this is because the car is extremely sensitive to this issue. My wife drives an Audi Q3 and we've never needed to turn it off. It only kicks in at the very last moment, and that's when it's really necessary.

Good evening all, new to the forum and have a little problem that Ihoped one of you more experienced 8.5ers may be able to PLEASE help with! I picked my new 8.5 R up yesterday and am tearing my hair out with a weird behaviour with the cruise/Acc.

After pressing the Mode button on the left steering wheel pad, I see the options to toggle through Cruise, Acc, Travel Assist etc. But after selecting Mode and seeing the greyed out mode icon on the dash e.g. Cruise, I can't turn it off completely I.e. Make the icon disappear. On my 7.5, the button on the top right of the left pad was on/off but now it's just cancel??

Seems bizarre there was no assist mode selected when I picked the car up but having hit the mode button, I can no longer deactivate it fully and remove the icon.

I've trawled the manual and tinterwebs and comments I've seen suggest it CAN'T be removed. Seems nuts given it was completely off when I collected the car. Very grateful for any tips or suggestions anyone who may have experienced this themselves may be able to please share. Many thanks!

Hi and welcome.

Sounds like normal behaviour for the 8.5.  The ACC symbol is always present but greyed out if not active (by pressing Res) and if Cancel is pressed.  Different from the mk7/7.5 in that respect).  Not sure why it wasn’t present at first but if you collected the car from new then maybe that’s why?

Hi, thanks very much for the intell. Seems bizarre behaviour, that it can't be switched off. I think even the manual describes the greyed out light as function on but not active... Feeling like 'function off' is a reasonable expectation! Thanks again 🐵

Yes it’s just a different approach by VW.  You get used to it.  It’s the same with the Lane Assist symbol - always present but either grey if deactivated or green if active.

Also, on the 7/7.5 and the mk8 turning off ACC removed the symbol and the odometer reading was then visible.  This isn’t the case on the 8.5R - the odometer doesn’t display as on previous models.  Save you wondering why you can’t see the mileage on the dash display.

I queried something with the sales guy who sent me a video before I picked it up and can't see any greyed out mode icon and there wasn't one in the HUD when I picked it up either... Nit until u pressed Mode and cycled through. It's seems that since choosing one of the modes, it or any alternate selections made since, now remain present. Almost feels like Mode should include a fifth option for 'Off'. Very weird, but as suggested I'm sure I'll get used to it. Thanks

Just a question? I’m doing an oil change this weekend, do I reset the ‘oil service reminder’ as well? Because the next service the dealer will do it and they’ll see I’ve done an oil change myself, is that a good thing or bad thing in terms of warranty issues?

Supposedly, it is a nothing thing.

In my opinion, if you show up at the dealer’s with 20k miles on the service clock it may seem like you missed a service, which may be worse than showing up with 10k and say you did the last one somewhere else (you are allowed to use any certified shop).

If this is an interim oil change (like an early post run-in change, or a 5k miles change) an it won’t exceed 10-12k miles from the previous one they did (or from new) until you reach the dealership, then you may leave it as it is.

Either way, 90% they won’t even notice and just do the service they were asked to do, and reset the clock.

Personally I wouldn’t reset it, and i would not want them to know i did an interim service to avoid any issues or void your warranty.

Imagine if something did go wrong mechanically, understandably they will push back, even if you do have proof it was the correct oil replacement and parts. It’s not worth the hassle and worry.

Yes that’s what I thought, probably a safer bet just to leave it alone? Everything I’m using are all genuine VW parts as well including the oil, I’ve got a VW parts shop just around the corner from me which is convenient, thanks for that..
