  1. Found the article, ECU’s can retard timing if they detect lower octane fuel being used. However this was 6 yrs ago. Are current ECU’s smarter? “Also having run a lower octane fuel than the ECU was mapped for will not automatically result in timing being re-advanced once a higher octane fuel is then used. The ECU will not immediately notice nor try to re-advance the timing, it may take anything from 1 to 15 tank fills before a ECU switches back to the higher octane map. “
  2. Had new screen from Autoglass last year, Pilkington, no VW stamp but otherwise identical. Great fitter and job done with no problems. Recommended
  3. Several years ago I was advised Porsche ECU altered its map to reduce power output if it detected lower octane. This was then reversed incrementally with each fill up and it took several tanks to get back to max power. Does this happen with VW if use 95 octane due to lack of 99 whilst travelling in remote area? Or has ECU technology moved on from there?
  4. Agree Goodyear more comfortable and quieter as well. Have no problems with grip. Did not enjoy Bridgestone on 19”
  5. That’s the whole point of the question - custom remap can be made to suit individual circumstances and doesn’t have to be for 98 or 99 octane. Not sure how many people would be able to notice the 4% difference between 360hp and 375hp when driving unless competing against the clock or on track. Appreciate there could be advantages of less carbonisation and more mpg with higher octane if don’t use max performance though. Always good to spark a little debate andzsee dufferent opinions

  9. Did you go for DSG tune at same time (if not manual?)
  10. Anybody choosing 95 for their remap in UK or stick with 98? Guess might depend on country and adequate access to higher octane fuel...
  11. Tyres make big difference to low frequency road noise and therefore need for boosting bass. Goodyear Eagle summer tyres on 19" one of best when I looked for dB ratings. Winter tyres on 17" rims also better than standard. Piece of sound absorbing foam under hatch floor on top of wheel, and another under rear seat also helps
