Rear pads and disks using Brembo all in at a shade over £200 using an independent garage. 25k on the clock.

I have cross climates on 18 inch Cadiz and they seem fine. Not had really bad weather to notice a big difference to the Potenzas but they feel grippier.
-
I have an R and I am way past 50. Just love hot hatches since my Mk 2 Golf Gti I bought in 1990. Now going back to read my which Zimmer frame magazine.
-
Interesting just read that the mk8 R might use hybrid technology. Iām clearly not driving keenly enough in my R given the above comments!
-
Had a ride in a mateās GTE yesterday. Felt as quick as my R. Was impressed. Only thing missing for me was AWD. Imagine that and over 50 mpg with hard driving. Whatās not to like? What do people think?

My local VW garage mentioned that they had a software update for the parking brake when providing a quote for my 3 year service. Trouble is a non VW franchised garage I use for another car is offering to do the same service for £200 less but they are not up to speed on this update. My parking brake is working ok as far as I know. Has anyone had the upgrade and is it necessary etc as the information on the VW site is crap. I am having the service done by the non franchised garage of course! Thanks

Thanks for the replies. All makes sense. For me itās a 40 mile daily commute of country lanes then through the city. Occasional blast especially if I have some idiot in a Corsa or similar attached to the rear diffuser. I do not race of course because that would be very wrong!

In the last month Iāve noticed a drop in my average MPG from around 37 to 32 in the last month or so. I donāt think Iāve changed my driving style so I wonder if this as a result of colder outside temperatures? Anyone else experienced this? Not a big deal still enjoying the car after nearly a year which is a 64 plate manual.

I think this is pretty normal.

So my wife drove us back from the pub last night in the R. I asked her what she thought and said it wasn't as good as the Golf GTI Mk5 we had a few years back. She felt that car was livelier and less leaden. Interesting as I love the R because it's quick and revvy and more planted but it does feel a bit heavy. Anyone else owned an earlier Golf GTI. Does she have a point?

Steering clear of ex lease cars? What a load of rubbish!
-
Honestly all this snobbery about ex lease cars. Mine's a red five door poverty spec manual. Bought with 12k on the clock in February for just a pinch over £20k. It's very shiny and drives like a dream. I wouldn't worry just make sure you do your homework and get the best you can afford. I've not heard of many people regretting getting a MK7 R!
-
Plan to keep mine for a while. Bought it outright for just over £20k in February. Now on 17k miles and nearly 3 years old. It's got to beat my all time record of a Mk 5 Golf Gti which I bought new in 2005 and owned for 8 years. My best car so far and the R is right up there!
-
The seats are more comfortable than those in my Fiesta ST but a lot of people loved those Recaros. I do agree they are not the best and do give me a bit of back ache on long journeys but not enough to put me off driving the R.
-
I agree. I bought a 64 plate ex lease for just over Ā£20k six months ago at 12k miles coming from a Fiesta ST (which was very good) and as I write the R has been absolutely fine to the extent I'm not missing the ST. The car is poverty spec but not when it comes to the performance! š

Now I'm normally a placid kind of guy and drive my Golf R conservatively by and large with the occasional blast as we all do. What is it with Golf GTD drivers who seem to want race and get very upset when they want play traffic light Grand Prix and on this occasion don't 'win'. Gets properly on my tits. I know keep calm and carry on! Rant over š”š”

Recommendation for dealer service Norfolk/Suffolk area
Norfolk Boy replied to flurbs's topic in General Chat
That's good to know. They serviced my previous Mk5 Golf GTI a few years back and did a good job at a reasonable price š -
Thanks for the advice. Sorry when I said wash and wax I meant all at once eg zip wax. I certainly wouldn't put a proprietary wax after washing every week! I also had a metallic black mk 5 Golf GTI and after 8 years from new the paintwork was pretty bad. Best car I ever owned though!
-
My car is getting on for three years old and wasn't that well prepared by the dealer I bought it from. Very swirly paint and some scratches you can see in bright sunlight. I applied the Autoglym product by hand and produced a noticeable improvement in shine. I had no white residue but appreciate it's only been a couple of weeks so we shall see! I've also added some Turtlwax minute wax (had been lying around for years but seems ok) to give a bit of protection. My intention is to wash and wax every week then prep the car again in the Autumn as I don't have time to spend cleaning the car. To get the swirls out would be a professional job and lots of money so it's not going to happen! I'm also in danger of collecting lots of lots of different products and end up with garage full if I'm not careful!
-
The Autoglym polish gets a thumbs up from me. Worked well in bringing a good shine out of the tornado red paintwork. Tried Poorboys black hole on top to cover the swirls then some liquid wax I had lying around. Even my wife noticed the difference!
-
Got the car out in the bright sunlight today and have to say that the Autoglym product gives a noticeable glossy shine. I've ordered some Poorboys Black Hole to see if the glaze will hide the swirls better but it isn't too bad as it is!
-
Thanks I'll look at his site but a full professional detail will be further down the road for me.
-
Thanks I'll try that next time I do a full clean but after two hours yesterday I'm done for now!š
-
Thanks. Looking at the paintwork I think it's been through an automatic car wash several times!
