New APR replacement IS38 turbo released.!
Benje replied to Msportman's topic in Modifying your Golf R MK7
TTV5 does not like low boost levels so anything under 2 bar on a V5 will be laggy . V5 is a bigger full fat turbo so needs the boost to get it going . -
Hope you get you're issues sorted , but thought would just let you know Ricks maps are completely different to how Ben tunes his cars at devil developments. Yes they do work very closely but I’ve had Ricks stage 3 map and then as I wasn’t completely satisfied made the long trip to devil developments to get it revised . Been stage 3 2 years now and not had any issues ✌️

Thanks for you’re kind words Booth . Didn’t help the wife is currently 37 weeks pregnant so she really didn’t need the emotional impact on her certainly at this time . You live and learn . Don’t wait for an incident to happen before upgrading house security especially at the minute with used golf R prices going through the roof .

Would go one step further and say we no longer have any form of law enforcement protection either . I quickly came to understand that when shortly after my altercation with the cretins. My wife phoned the police only to be told they would not be attending our home due to lack of resources (man power) . Then proceeded to add insult to injury by asking if I would like to book an appointment for the Saturday , when the phone call was made to them on the early hours of Wednesday morning .🤦🏾♂️ Im sure you can gather my response . Lol

Just wanted to highlight the importance of having anti-snap locks on any exterior doors you may have people . More house security the better , as I had to unfortunately find out . Didn’t get away with my golf , due to me catching them in act 👊🏽 Lesson learnt and now all doors and locks upgraded with notification cctv front and back . Don’t make it easy for them ✌️

Just to follow on from above , I had my mk5 gti remapped by Rtech back in the day . I was curious as to the power figures quoted on dyno print out , so had the car put on a different rolling road . Let’s just say I was far from impressed with the results 😕
-
Wouldn’t look to much into dyno figures as I found out . First mapped at a well known tuner was meant to be 443 and 400 lbs . Took it to another dyno and made 420 bhp 390ft lbs . Nothing wrong with the map as it showed my friends Apr S3 stage 2 a clean pair of heels, just a bit tame for my liking. Got devil developments to retune it with power coming in at 1.9 bar from low down holding 1.7 bar . Made 440 bhp 430 ft lbs but it’s my butt dyno that tells me it’s now a true reflection of the figures . Moral of story take dyno figures with a pinch of salt .
-
You won’t lose low down torque if it is mapped correctly. (Devil developments ) 😉 I’m full fat l380X and hit 430 ft lbs by 2850 rpm and holds it . I also have Rev limit raised to 7300 rpm .

Yes . Had my stage 3 golf 4 years now , and Maxton spoiler was one of the first things I fitted . Still happy with it till this day . I’m not into massive spoilers hanging off the back like the cars about to hit the run way and take off as it’s just a bit to boy racer Looking in my opinion. Each to their own though .

As a reputable company, Rtech should be fixing your issues ASAP. For a company which is held in high regard by many there customer service is something that really lets them down . Over the years they have become so popular, that now I think they struggle to cope with the demand as their facility’s or staffing hasn’t got any bigger . I’m l380X tuned and had none of the problems you’re experiencing . I had my mk5 tuned by Rtech back in the day , but took my mk7 to unicorn to be tuned / and now recently made the 3.5 hour trip to devil developments for a ecu and dsg retune . Both these company’s I can certainly vouch for especially the latter , as car is now running like a dream . Rtech will no doubt sort out you’re issues so just keep on to them even though it can be a tad frustrating . Hope you get you’re issues sorted out in due course .

Vote for BCS full turbo back exhaust here . Zero drone off boost (my pet hate ) and awesome sound on boost . To give you an idea , friend with a full turbo back Remus exhaust always tells me he wished he went the BCS route after being a passenger in mine .

You do realise you could spend £300 on this chip repair only for it to happen again in the same week ? Just purchase a chipex kit then get watching a few YouTube videos to familiarise yourself with how to do a decent job . It will never be perfect, but once you sand it down a little with 2500 sand paper , believe me only you will be able to tell . Not bad for a £25 fix
-
For upgraded spark plugs , go for the ngk performance. R-7438-8 or 9s . Be sure to change them every 10 to 15 k though .
-
Any competent mechanic will be able to fit the turbo or core . Takes around 2.5 to 3 hours . I’ve had mine a while now and got unicorns local garage to fit it , then mapping session in the afternoon .
-
Sorry only just seen this post . I went for the sport full turbo back exhaust with 100 cell sports cat . Best modification to date . Certainly not cheap but worth every penny . I hate drone , and couldn’t even put up with a res delete. The BCS is perfect and best of both worlds . Best exhaust on the market and wouldn’t think twice if had to choose again .

Just a warning to all with mk7 Rs owners to check your rear speaker gaskets . Not sure if the 7.5 suffers from the same problem but the water egress over time on these cars is shocking . I’ve had my golf coming up to 4 years now and twice had to deal with soaking footwells . This isn’t just a isolated incident either as seen the same subject crop up over and over again on Facebook forums and also on this forum . Keep a check on your rear footwells peeps as the longer it goes unnoticed the more costly it becomes to correct , in my case stripping the whole car to replace the interior underlay .
-
Set to 0 , just so I can hear the best exhaust note you will ever hear on this platform 😁👌( BCS Powervalve )
-
Check your rear drivers side for water 😬 rear door speaker gaskets leak . That could be the water that’s travelled from the back
-
Should be the same , as I have the same setup

Had stage 1 on my car at the time of my full turbo back system . Didn’t really feel any performance benefits but didn’t want to push it to hard as didn’t want any over boost situations which can happen when adding free flowing down pipe . Certainly noticed the difference after getting unicorn custom mapped .💨 . Only problem is you quickly become accustomed to the power even at over 440 bhp and start looking at even bigger turbos . Only thing that puts me off though is the increased lag (none with current hybrid Turbo ) and obviously increased reliability issues .
-
For all the modifications on my R over all the Best Buy without doubt is my full Turbo back BCS exhaust . Thing looks and sounds immense without a hint of drone . Definitely my best investment closely followed by my hybrid turbo
-
Had my old mk5 gti tuned by R-tech , and for pricing they can’t be faulted . They do full engine checks and won’t tune a car if they find a underlying issue before hand , which is always a good sign . There dyno however reads very generous , as I found out myself when running the same gti on 2 other different dyno,s after being mapped by them . Half the reason I decided on using unicorn for my mk7 r .

Take it back , and tell them them to do the job you paid for first time around ✌️
