old thread - lost the passenger mirror glass today, hit the passenger window and scored it a bit but luckily avoided any body work damage. Car has done 11000 miles and is a 2017 8.5, hasnt used the heated mirrors so I dont think that is the cause. Have ordered replacement lenses for both mirrors from https://www.thewingmirrorcompany.co.uk (thanks NRW). These come with adhesive backing pads so don't need glue. Obviously getting the passenger side off isn't a problem now, anyone have any ideas (other than brute force) how to get the drivers side off? would like to avoid damage caused by that one failing if I can

There is a 7.5 on an 18 plate one of the last pre WLTP here: https://www.hendyperformance.co.uk/used-cars/?make=volkswagen&model=golf

thank you, sounds like try ringing Customer Services and see if they will budge otherwise its chalk it up to experience and don't by a VW group car again. Thanks for your responses.

Hi Guys, I had my 2018 R in for a belated 2nd annual service, Ive had it from new. I reported the drivers seat, leg bolster on the right side was noticeably less firm than the one on the other side of the seat, or indeed the ones on the passenger seat. Dealer confirmed it was defective, reported it to VW who declined the repair under warranty due to fair wear and tear. The car has 12000 miles on the clock and is less than 3 years old, whilst I have a beer belly I'm in no way morbidly obese. Should I just accept this and move on or do I have a reasonably case to raise this with VW? Any recommendations on who/where in VW to escalate to if this is a reasonably claim? Many thanks in advance for any advice

I was able to talk to them on 0800 912 3558 and 0370 010 2022

did this in July - took just about two months before I got any revised paperwork. During the gap I got multiple letters from VWF requesting (then demanding) final payment - with multiple calls from me to their hell desk to check the letters where incorrect each time. I put it down to covid and reduced staffing.

Agree with Gregg. On a previous car some time ago I had very similar problems, worked fine but if you left it idling once warm started getting a LOT of smoke. Diagnosis for this was oil pooling when on idle and then running down the valve stems. Manufacture (Nissan in that case) modification applied and problem fixed.

force majeure - nobodies fault, you can simply walk away and renegotiate if you don't like the new deal ie parity. And many will imo due to unexpected drop in personal income - which will leave manufacturers with some extra stock and wanting to make up for a lost quarter of sales. Id expect discounts/incentives not price downs on the part ex -
Its great news he got it back, even if they didn't catch the scumbags at least they lost any profit for the risk they took. Marshalls - I am avoiding like the plague, the VW dealer in Bedford has been very good for both our golfs, just a bit of a trek from MK.

I would normaly agree with but would caveat it with unless you happen to have 3 adult males living in the house at the moment, 2 of whom are ex army and the 3rd who enjoys boxing, oh and three dogs. Anyone looking for keys is in for interesting times unless they can run very fast indeed.

charge to diagnose if warranty work
GrumpyOldMan replied to GrumpyOldMan's topic in VW Golf R MK7 Chat
Looks like Marshals Milton Keynes is a bad un then not to mention doesn't seem to have enough engineers to do the work in a timely fashion. Cant help thinking this behavior dilutes the value of VWs warranty which isn't good for brand reputation. I'll avoid any dealers that want to charge me just too look at warranty work from now on. -
Car due second service, some things need looking at under warranty (blind spot alert (warning indicators stopped working both mirrors), drivers seat-base bolster collapsing, passenger door handle jamming open occasionally. Local VW main dealer, Marshals Milton Keynes, tells me there will be a £135 diagnostic charge for each item if its determined (by them) not to be warranty work, oh and car needs to be with then for several days. Anyone else heard of this behavior before? Sounds like a great money earner for them. Interestingly I went to a different VW main dealer in Bedford, no mention of such charge and they need the car for a day.

Quick question: did they ever make mk7’s in 2018??
GrumpyOldMan replied to Gavspear's topic in VW Golf R MK7 Chat
Insurance co's have it as a manual when its a DSG Plates don't remotely match the model year I would run away - fast -
its not an exchangeable part like most filters rather Its a gauze cover on the pump that gets blocked. You need to ask them to clean that rather than for a replacement filter - which they wont have any record of.
-
If this a DSG it does sound a lot like DSG box lag - having to drop 2 gears, the second change will be "slow" Otherwise no, I haven't encountered slow acceleration (ever) with my Golf R, quite the reverse infact :)
-
I guess you could just try setting your car to different language like German which presumably will set your dials to Kmh
-
Resale vale - wont be long before analogue dials are viewed as antique = less resale To OP, not all 7.5s have digital dash, there was a zero cost option to have analogue when I bought mine.
-
No chance imo, the only way an R stands out is if its flying, otherwise its so under stated only an enthusiast would recognize it for what it really is capable of.
-
the biggest single factor that sold the Golf R's to me was the value for money ie the price. If the R's go up too much further they are in danger of competing head to head with premium brands where they just wont win. As a result you might expect to see heavier discounts on the new models once the dust has settled later in the year.
-
Oh I agree - I use WBAC to see the lowest I can get for the car then shop around from there. My point being don't be put of by a dealer low PX offer - you dont need to PX in the first place.
-
did you look at webuyanycar? they are rip off merchants but will usually give you more than PX. Audi don't want a VW on the forecourt, brand differentiation
-
audi - vor sprung durch was ist depreciation? My A5 was a great buy, depreciation was (what I see as) minimal. BUT 310 HP for silly money was what dragged me here
-
Depends on the Spec - basic to full spec can be 10k difference in list price. Do the same check on any expensive new car the first year depreciation will be horrendous.
-
expensive VWs are not going to be a good investment when it comes to residuals - this should not come as a shock to anyone. The identical spec S3 will have better residuals than the Golf R for example - same car different badge. You always pay a premium for new, I wouldn't expect otherwise. Like many here I have a high spec R (just under 40k retail) that I got a reasonable 5k discount on. Its to my spec, under manufacturers warranty and I know its history. For me that's worth taking a hit on depreciation for. If you don't want big depreciation buy older and all power to you. Modern cars are so good buying second hand is not the risk it once was (sure you get the odd bad one but you can have them checked). There is no right or wrong to this, it comes down to preference. I don't see me selling my R unless I can get another non-hybrid new for under 40k in a years time. if so that will likely be the last new car I buy until electric gets much better, if not this one will do me until that happens.
