  1. I'm almost certain this will have been answered previously, but struggling to find it due to the number of search results. When washing the car and you have the key in your pocket how do you get it to stop locking and unlocking every 10 seconds and just remain unlocked. Something tells me James showed me how to do this when I picked up the car, but I can't remember. In my 7.5 if you unlocked the car, opened and closed one of the doors it would remain unlocked until you locked it with the fob.
  2. Excellent let us know how you get on. Since installing the update mine has been on a bit of an update extravaganza. It installed a flurry of shop and manual updates and then installed a sizeable update it referred to as the OUG1 update which was quite substantial and contained fixes for quite a few things. That update didn’t change the version of software installed though.
  3. I won't post direct links to the files themselves but I found the download on this forum: https://www.vwvortex.com/threads/infotainment-software-update-guide.9541307/page-2?nested_view=1&sortby=oldest If you scroll down someone called 'warplane95' posted a link to them on his googledrive. The guide I used was a PDF on the first post of page one of the same forum thread. I didn't use a battery charger during the update as I was 99% confident my battery wouldn't go flat during the 15 minutes it took to do the update. I used a 64gb Sandisk USB-C memory stick, and as recommended I formatted it as the exFAT file system.
  4. I did actually consider the warranty aspect, and although I do think VW Connect knows what version your car currently has I dont think the info they store is likely to be anymore granular than that. There is also those who randomly seem to get major updates OTA. Plus it was an official unmodified update installed using their update process so it would be harsh (if not unheard of) to invalidate a warranty). Saying that I do think if you bricked your car while doing the update yourself you wouldn't have a leg to stand on! I do think the likes of VW need to be better at delivering updates. One of the reasons I went ahead is within my work place the majority of updates we install are to keep on top of emerging cybersecurity related threats and given the fact you can unlock your car using an app its fair to assume that VW probably patch security vulnerabilities within their updates.
  5. Well I got itchy feet and decided to update the software on my car myself. My R was one for the first MY23 cars and came with 1898 installed from the factory. I have been very lucky in not having any issues with my car whatsoever but still couldn’t help myself. I have never received a major update OTA. I downloaded the 1969 update which I think is still the latest and installed that. Now as someone who has worked in ICT for over 20 years I am very accustomed to installing software and firmware updates and this particular update was not difficult. A good quality memory stick and follow the instructions is all that was required. The whole process took about 15 minutes. I was on the fence initially but the IT bod in me got the better and I also came to the conclusion that VW design these updates to be installed by main dealers so they are likely to have put a number of prerequisite checks in place to prevent them from bricking a customers car. Anyway I’m certainly not suggesting that anyone rushes out and does it themselves, just sharing my experience. So far the car has continued to be issue free, but I did notice that the interface was snappier.
  6. I do find the start / stop on the Mk8 way more sensitive than on my previous Mk7.5 GTI. I have had a few touch and go moments on roundabouts and junctions where I have been looking to make a run for it and the car has decided to conk out 😅
  7. That's for the input everyone. I think I will just leave it alone for the moment 😀.
  8. Thank you both, that's exactly what I was looking for . It's weird they don't simply have an 'auto' option as well as choosing your theme. Especially since the map window automatically switches to a dark theme. Thanks again I keep forgetting there is the little swipe down menu.
  9. I was going to ask about this as my car does get over the air updates, but they must be minor as the version showing in the car is still the same as the one it came from the factory with which is 1898. Now I haven't encountered any issues or bugs with my car at all since getting it, but I do acknowledge that since receiving it back in Aug 2022 I have only done just shy of 5k in it. Do these updates offer any new functionality that I'm missing out on or am I just best sticking with what I have got since everything seems to just work. Weirdly when it was going in for a service the person on the phone said she could see it had to updates pending that I could install myself, but the car doesn't seem to think I'm missing anything
  10. Car went in for a service last week and as well as the heat pad recall, I also came away with a nice new Engine cover. Probably the most boring looking engine cover in the world, but there it is
  11. Is it possible to change the colour for the radio background? Its well bright when your driving around in the dark. I would rather it was just the same dark blue colour as the main interface.
  12. Thanks both it’s a really good shout to be fair. I did really rate the detailing company so I will reach out to them first for some advice before doing anything.
  13. As always thanks for the detailed response Becks. Yeah parts of it can definitely be felt by my nail. I think since we are heading into autumn and winter I will simply try a masking product as you recommend and then in the spring next year look to get it professionally sorted as given the fact its on the drivers door I 100% won't be able to live with it long term. It's so frustrating as I really wanted to look after the body work of this car and got it professionally detailed and ceramic coated to make it look its best. Cheers Dan
  14. Hi all, as the title suggests does anyone have any recommendations on how I can reduce the appearance of the following scratch 😠. Clearly someone getting out of their car in a car park. I know these are the risks but still very annoying and I always park sensibly. Its about 4cm in length Cheers Dan
  15. From reading that thread it’s a strong possibility that is my issue 😄. i will definitely be trying that fix next time I’m out in the car. thanks for the link Rebecca I was struggling to find it via searching.
