TeaJay
Stupidly, I didn't spec rear tints on my FL 7R. For the price of them, as an extra, I really regret it as having seen some photos on here, I think they look great. I've spoken to my dealer and he reckons they can retro fit them but will be more money, as they need to add labour etc. I have also sourced someone in the MK area who can fit 95% tints on the rears for what I think will be a similar price. Couple of questions: In the real world, is there much difference between 90% and 95% tints? Does anyone have 95% tints (preferably on a 5 door R) and some photos? My GF and I are having new baby soon .. with these tints in the rear, would I need sun blinds as well? or do they provide enough shade? Anyone have this experience? Cheers guys mickR

Cheers guys These are the tints I had specced from the factory. Not a five door but it'll give you an idea. They're supposed to be heat insulating - as for how much light they shut out, not sure as I've never been in the back! invisiblekid
Tom, are you looking at installing full on privacy glass or just having tint film put on? My car doesn't have tints but I want it. I'm just trying to consider if I go balls to the wall and replace the glass. If you're replacing the glass would you mind letting me know your costs please? mickR

ashleyman
Aftermarket window tint film will never look as good as factory tinted glass. This is film: With factory tinted glass, you don't get any of the lines or heating elements, it's all just black. You won't need sun blinds with tints, they diffuse a lot of light and make the rear of the car much darker. I haven't got any photos of my car with 90% tints but you cannot see in the back unless you are right up close to the glass. I much prefer cars with tints camelsac2002 and TeaJay
Bayleaf
My daughter has yet to ask for any sunglasses when sat in the back and works security always ask me to wind the window down to check nobody in the back. So either they are very good at both heat and light reduction or my works security have bad eyesight. TeaJay
Thanks guys. So, from the above then, are the tints from a VW factory order, actually full on tinted glass? The company I have been looking at: https://www.xgraphicsmk.co.uk/copy-of-prices Quote that the tinted film shows no lines and is a "perfect finish" .. I'm guessing that sale spiel though? If you order 90% tints from the factory, you get tinted glass, not normal glass with films applied. Perfect finish could mean any number of things but it will never be as good as properly tinted glass. TeaJay and TuftyR

You can see the black line down towards the C pillar. How does the rear look?

Richarrrrd
It's film, not sure of the % though.I was unfortunate enough to pick my car up second hand (3000 miles after 3 years is all) without privacy. How does the rear window look with the heater elements? I had my C30 done and that looked awesome, but worry it might not look as awesome as it should. Further on from this; what do you use to clean it? I know from before it was a pain to clean and recommend soapy water as no PH, but not as easy as spray and wipe! To be honest I've not really considered how good the back window looks, I've taken a picture but the cars been left in a hotel underground car park for a couple of days so is a bit dusty plus there's a lot of reflection. As for cleaning, I treat the rear windows the same as the fronts, Autoglym window cleaning spray, not noticed any difference between the two regarding finish.
