ToRnado_R
It's bird poop by the looks of it, looks like it's burned through the clear coat. And if it isn't the paint warranty iirc is 3 years Sent from my fingers

Always hard to tell in pics, but in that one it looks like the paint has cracked and flaking. 😱 If it is then get to the dealer. If the paint surface isn’t broken then it could be bird poo etching possibly? But looks more than that. Is the paint surface broken, can you get a nail under it? AgtX
No, the blue paint is flaked off and it looks like grey primer showing

I’d book it in at the dealer see what they say. I wonder if it’s been previously repaired/resprayed, and has a weakness, possibly compounding some external damage. Did you buy it new or used? PhilC22
On that last (close up) picture, it appears that the paint has cracked in that small area and come off in flakes. Very difficult to say from a photo, so you need to take it to a VW dealer for them to have a close look. It could be that 'something' has dropped onto the roof (e.g. tree sap) that has then eroded/weakened the clearcoat/underlying paint and made it easier for the sun to do its worse. Just guessing mind. AgtX
It had 1200 miles on it when i bought it. I havent had to wash it that much recently with it being summer but i never noticed anything on the roof before and i dont let bird poop sit on the car if i notice it. Will see what the dealership says. Booth11

AgtX
I bought it from “Available car” does the warranty still hold at VW? Was made in March 2018.
Shug
Car has a three year warranty regardless Good luck getting dealer to accept it, but worth trying Booth11

It used to be 10yrs for paint & corrosion. I got both front wings replaced on a mk5 at 9 yrs old due to rust bubbles which was a common issue. So good luck you never know. AgtX
I have a service plan at the vw dealer so i have a foot in the door!

VW are usually masters at finding reasons to reject claims. i had my bonnet insulation replaced as it had shrunk and fallen off. They said ever never seen it before despite common issue on here and I know someone else had same fix at same dealers a few months before. We’ve seen previous paint claims on here where they suggested prior damage / respray even though owner knew this was BS. Doesnt mean not worth trying though. Good luck. Let us know what excuses they dream up
phazer
Hate to say it but bought from Available almost certainly means it's had paint. Last time I was anywhere near one of their places 90% of the cars had obvious bodywork done. Good luck getting it sorted though. If VW reject it go back to Available and get them to sort it. AgtX
Im guessing its standard for “almost new” cars but this one was owned by a company for 5 months before i got it, its a tax write off scam isnt it? Car looked spotless to me, how much abuse could a car get in 5 months over 1200 miles? The bodywork should be as new. Reading the warranty claim thread, i have the worn paint on the edge of the drivers door, which i now realise is a common thing for some reason.
