From what I can recall, the main differences appear to be Discovery Pro gives you dual nav map display (maps on infotainment screen and dash) over the standard, but this can be coded on standard nav with obdeleven (have done it on mine - see obdeleven section). Voice activation is included with the Pro, it seems now to be an optional extra on the standard nav system though it was included on earlier cars. And the hardware for DP is different to the standard nav. Anyone else know of any other differences?
dopper99
I think hardly anyone has gone for Discover Pro Navigation as there seems little difference between that and standard nav. And it doesn't appear to justify the cost for what you get. PrettyVacant
speedjunkie
Dual nav map display is standard i believe. This has been spoken about before.
JonnyG
Way too expensive for so little extra IMHO 😁 Booth11
HM1975
Thanks for the comparison, doesnt warrant the extra cost in my opinion.
dopper99
Looking at an old brochure the Discover nav pro was a lot more expensive back then at £1600. Also, for sound quality the HK is a better system with more output, more speakers and sub woofer. Shame the HK cant be ordered at the moment. HM1975
I ended up getting a used Golf R with 4,000 miles not via a VW dealer so was bit cheaper, it has the options I need including HK. It doesn't have Discover Pro but I am not so bothered by that will just use Apple CarPlay and Waze. Microbe and Booth11

I’ve got standard nav but only ever use CarPlay and the nav options through that.
Microbe
I too have gone down the second hand route, 21 plate 2600 miles fron a non vw garage. Nav database is showing as version 20.3, I see from other posts that it's not the latest so how do I get updated? Will use waze or Google maps mostly but I do like to be up to date in case I don't have my phone with me. Thanks

Never really successfully found what the 1600quid or there about difference is/was. But different European markets do have different specs on the base nav/media system, so is it related to this? I dunno. but for the UK market it seems a bucket of cash for a bit of an unknown option. VW marketing bumf doesn't really clarify it either. let us know if you find the actual answer. Bugs2206
I know it's based off the mk7 era, but originally the pro version included full 3d, not just 2/2.5d imagery. Which includes 3d building models for certain cities. It also allows video playback (including DVD, slot in the glove box). From 7.5 it also added dual map display (instrument cluster and infotainment). Info page, buried deep on the VW site. https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/en/technology/radio-and-navigation/discover-nav.html Cheesy video, but it shows the extra features well
