Not at all rbel5553 some great questions there. I’d love to have exact answers but I didn’t do a full session as I didn’t want to plow through the tyres and discs. In short what I learned. So for your questions 1. (Understeer) You can feel the front inside wheel nip at the brakes attempting to bring the front back in and it does to some success bring you back in on line but it is not the most efficient way through the bend. Getting it stopped early with the front end gripping and then on the throttle early is definitely the quickest way through. This way all four wheels are engaged and pushing forward. 2. (Tuck in) I didn’t quite understand this questions as typically with lift off oversteer (rotation) or tuck in it is the rear that loses grip which would in turn once you add throttle back in essentially leave most of the power going to the wheels with grip (the front). Do correct me if I’m wrong though. 3. In the wet (Pushing the nose out) this I didn’t have experience of due to it being dry however in the snow this showed some of the intrinsic behaviour. This showed that almost always understeer is the first port of call. Having driven Subaru’s for years the behaviour of their AWD system was very different in the snow. The car would naturally rotate on throttle where as the R is far more likely to plow on unless you really flick the car into the corner but even then it was quite difficult to get a decent amount of oversteer. I have seen Chris Harris send the car into a four wheel drift in an early review against a M235i but he was being extremely violent on turn to destabilise the rear. So it can be done but it’s not the cars natural talent. So that has been my experience of the cars handling so far. Having had it for nearly 3 years I can definitely say that it is at it’s best at 8/10ths on a tight B road (with few potholes). The real world traction, neutral handling, the power band and size of the car I think are pretty much unbeatable on Irish roads. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi all on the Irish thread. I have recently moved back from the UK bringing my R with me. Having lived in London for the last couple of years it is so nice to have a car such as this with such great roads to exploit the performance close-by without having to drive an hour or two into Surrey to be stuck behind a multitude of octenagarians driving Honda Jazzs. I took the car to Mondello for a quick spin to really get a feel for it as this is the first car I've had where on the limit cornering performance is probably too reckless for public roads. Had a great run around and whilst it is not the last word when it comes to track performance it certainly didn't disgrace itself. Are there any meets in Ireland with fellow R owners? Also I am considering a stage 1 remap and some minor mods during the year (as warranty is up in May) do you guys have any recommendations for VAG tuners in the East? I think from a spec point of view the key things I would look for are Prets, DCC, Dynaudio and Nav (if car is pre Carplay). These really add to the experience of the car. Gearbox, colour, seats and bodystyles are purely personal preference. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Why not get the Passat GTE. Relative Luxury during the week with virtually no bills and then R for the weekend. It's in the same band as the Golf GTE so will be similarly as cheap on BIK but with the nicer interior. I remember talking to one of the sales guys in a Jag dealership and he was complaining as he was getting the XF 2.0d (163bhp) he would be paying a large wedge in BIK so I think if you are assigned a demo car you pay the regular BIK. I opted for it as I am constantly parking in built up areas with very tight parking. As you can see the edge of bumper in the camera you can see exactly how close you are to the car behind. It makes parallel parking on a tight busy street so easy and at £165 (or £265 now) I think it is a no brainer. The quality I think is superb in low light and as the camera is hidden behind the badge it doesn't get covered in road grime and dirt so is always clear. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Strangely a 56 Fiesta ST was the worst I have had for the juice. Rarely saw over 25mpg which from a super mini is ridiculous. Great fun though. Getting about 28-30mpg from the Golf on mixed driving.

Anyone got a rattle/scutter from the B pillar

I have this aswell. Can be very irritating when it is bad or have the radio turned off or on low. -
Yes let's make it happen!

I regularly had friends and family in the back of the 86! Being 6'2" this was a bit ridiculous both driving the car and to those in the back. Very entertaining though! [emoji56] Such a fun car however on the right road on the right day. Pain in the arse on the North Circ on a wet winter Wednesday!

This needs to happen!!!! [emoji16]

Hi it's a very interesting move you are making but I don't think you'll regret it. As far as I am aware there is no way of telling. The drive select comes standard on all UK Rs. Most dealers should put it in the car description or car spec as it is a £900 option that many people looks for. -
I made the jump from a GT86 as well. Like you really enjoyed the car but I just love the all round abilities of the Golf. Driving it back to Ireland for the first time on Monday so really looking forward to trying it on the roads I grew up on.

I think allot of people who had S versions of Audi's got pretty pissed off as well after a couple of years ago almost every car leaving the dealers was a TDI S Line. I remember the B7 S4 even had the same alloys as a 1.9TDI A4 S Line. Similar to the R and R Line only the quad pipes and the chrome mirrors are the obvious giveaway.

I think joegti7 is right. The white one is definitely an Irish car (19" Cadiz are the giveaway). The fact they have one would suggest that the other one with unusual clocks is also an Irish car. The White model is pretty much a standard Irish car (the only option being the DSG). I wonder why they could not spec the standard clocks though?

I was going to say that the RS3 has a 7 speed DSG so they definitely have a box that could go with a high powered petrol motor. I never really understood why the DSG 6spd was put in the Golf when there was a 7 speed available on the same platform. I think for the manual a slightly longer 5th and 6th would be perfectly acceptable as cruising between 80-85 the engine is hitting 3-3500rpm. Given that the power band comes in at 1,800rpm they could definitely have made them a little longer.

This thread kinda got interesting. I am International sales manager and having spent a huge amount of time in the Middle East, Israel is the only country I ever desire to return to. People love to point the finger at Israel and say that they are such a bad state. The truth is when you go there you see Arab Palestinians and Israeli's walking the streets side by side. This would never happen in a country like Saudi Arabia. If you are in Riyadh on a Friday walking past a mosque as people are leaving it feels uncomfortable. In Dubai and the other Gulf countries slavery is alive and well exactly as it has been for 1000's of years. Migrant workers from much poorer countries come to work and are often forced into conditions that cause mass sickness and fatalities. I agree the Israeli armed forces do not handle themselves well, however if you lived in a country where every single neighbour from Saudi to Iran want you dead it's not surprising they overreact. (I am not condoning their actions I just understand why they happen)

I suppose everyone is entitled to their own opinion in regard to looks once we can all agree that the new Prius looks like a constipated aardvark. Prius Aardvark RWD is fun but I think with that much power as a daily it would be a bit tiresome! I'm sure there will be similar discounts on the C43 when it arrives as well though.

That tech pack is such a good deal. I went DNS and Dynaudio before the Tech Pack was available. The base Nav looks rubbish and operates poorly. Over £1,200 worth. Dynaudio is awesome though.

I wouldn't call £14k (£21k for the S) a couple of quid! Not to mention the all weather traction and not shelling out for a new set of tyres every 5k miles. Lovely looking car from the front but the big advantage the C63 has over C43 is that at least when your burning rubber the plume of tyre smoke will cover that awful arse! [emoji23][emoji377]

Well done that is a great result and a testament to small local businesses. Pity the big boys don't behave as such.

I have the DCC and do enjoy the extra scope of abilities it gives the car. When taking people somewhere or on the inner city commute putting the suspension into Comfort is ideal. If I'm out and about on the back roads on a weekend morning it is in Normal and if they are large sweeping A roads with decent surface its in Sport setting. I usually have it in individual mode which means on the commute I leave the engine mode in Eco however change this to Sport once on a fun drive. I think If you are putting on a few options its one I would have (particularly if adding 19") however I don't think it's an option that makes or breaks the car.

Sorry I knew they were OE VW wheels I just wasn't sure what model they were (Dijon or something along those lines). They looked quite interesting. I think allot of the early GTI's in the Republic of Ireland came standard with pretty plain 17" wheels, these reminded me of them a little.

Spotted this in Kyoto today. I kind of liked the slightly under wheeled look of the car. Don't know the make of the wheel but it looked to be a 17".

Actually messing around on the German config I was amazed at what was extra. Dynamic lighting, ACC and even regular cruise control for example are optional extras. However you can downgrade allot of items like AC possibly with the idea of making a stripped out special? Either that or the German Config is as bad as the UK and just random options that don't actually exist at the dealers.
