Sorry totally missed your reply. Had my wifes car in for a service and decided to ask about my warranty and was told 4 years. -
Extended warranty from new; do they build the car differently?
RoundSquare replied to Rex2017's topic in VW Golf R MK7 Chat
I got my factory 4 years warranty added to the car when it was in transit along with the service plan. I had no idea it couldn't be added after production had started so not sure how it was added but I do have documentation stating it has 4 years. -
I was in my local Arnold Clark recently and could see on their white board (Are we still allowed to call it that) Date for next water leak: Date for next rattle: Both were several weeks in the future. I had a water leak in my GTD that was coming through the fuel door and into the boot. The dealer couldn't do that for for months. To the OP have you checked your boot as it could be getting in there and then running under the seat.

You are full of useful advice @SpeedbirdJW I took my daughter to the bodyshop that the insurers have recommended just today and that was there advice. Wait until the insurance company have got their money and that way she won't have to pay the £500 excess. Which is pretty poor considering the damage will probably be under that amount. Although I was disappointed that the bumper will be repaired rather than replaced and also the headlamp will be polished to remove the scratches!! Thanks I didn't realise you could do this. Although I was looking for the guys name and address.

Thanks all for the advice. Just to update everyone. The police officer that the case has been allocated to hasn't done a thing. My daughter managed to get hold of him today after phoning him daily for nearly a week. He said himself he hasn't even looked at the case!!!! My daughter asked him for the name and address of the other driver and the officer went away, came back and said she couldn't have it due to data protection!!! Seems crazy considering you must give Name and Address and vehicle registration if in an accident. https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-insurance/if-youre-in-an-accident The good thing is she carried out a price comparison with a disclosed non blame accident and one without and the difference was £15. So thanks for the tip SpeedbirdJW This coupled to my son being in his stationary car when a police car hit it then 6 months later a mysterious witness turned up, yeah an off duty police officer who happened to pass at time of impact but didn't stop and claimed it was my son that hit the police car!!! So the police aren't in my good books at present. Although I can't moan as they do a great job otherwise.

Thanks folks for the advice. Car isn't that bad to be honest. It will need a new bumper and obviously painted but that's about it. She's 21 this year and will have 3 years no claims so was wanting to avoid any hit on the insurance. It would probably be cheaper to get it fixed herself than pay the excess of £400 (I think) but I don't see why the other driver shouldn't be paying full whack. Best case scenario is police tell me his details and I'll go and visit him. I downloaded the V888 form from the DVLA to request a users details but reckon that would take to long to process. I've put the video on youtube. Sorry i don't know how to edit it so the first part is pretty mundane. The car (red mercedes) can be seen at 1:12 at the traffic lights really agitated if you can describe it like that. I reckon he was either on drink, drugs or had something to hide. The video stops with him turning down a one way busy Glasgow road. That reminds me, I'll need to talk to my daughter about her language  Thanks again.

Looking for some advice about my daughters hit and run. She was going through Glasgow city centre late the other night with the car in front driving like an arse. Belting through give-ways etc. He belted through another one but there was a taxi in his path. Words appear to be exchanged by the taxi and the arse, then the arse decides to reverse, hit my daughter then shoot off the wrong way down a one way street. Thankfully I got her a dashcam for Christmas and installed it It looks like he's under the influence so I got her to call the police at the time but they didn't attend. She has since handed the footage into the police who were very interested. Anyway her dilemma and my question is, She is only 20 so if she goes through her insurance her premiums will increase. I know the police will find and prosecute the driver and the insurance company will be fully repaid but am I right in thinking she will be classed a a high risk now so the premiums will increase? Her other alternative is just get it sorted herself and see if the arse will pay but that leaves her in a position if they don't. It happened a couple of days ago so she really needs to inform the insurance (if she's going to) as soon as.

Thanks for the tip. That's strange re market value as I was told by a few different reps when I was getting quotes as long as the car was under £75k then it didn't affect the policy. They also said it doesn't matter as in the event of an accident it would be paid out at market value and not the figure you quoted on the policy for obvious reason. Going by your experience if you put the value at a fair amount under, the policy would reduce again but they would pay out at the going rate. I don't understand the logic of insurance

Thanks all I'd totally forgot about this post. Interesting video.

Any later head unit that is a Mib 2 Nav Pro has App connect as standard. Its little brother that comes as standard you have to add app connect. As far as I know you can't "hack" app connect. Its a factory / dealer only option. The connectors are in the cubby hole behind the gear stick. Although might be in the arm rest in cars with the heated front screen. I'm sure someone can confirm this.

Having been a DSG virgin for 30 years, I decided to see what the fuss was about. Slowly getting to grips with it but I can't fathom out what the point of N is for on the MK7 with autohold and all the other gizzmo's. Yeah in a normal auto if at the lights, put it in to Neutral like a manual but if you do that on the DSG it disengages the autohold / handbrake. Are there any benefits / reasons to put it into N?

I find if I'm reversing in to a dark void then pressing the brake lights up the place better than the reverse light. Which brings me to, there are numerous VCDS mods for the lights when reversing. Which might help some.

Facelift R cheaper than my built pre facelift car!
RoundSquare replied to Sparks69's topic in VW Golf R MK7 Chat
That was just a concept car back in 2015 so hopefully its way better than that. But totally agree it will be too hard to use in normal driving conditions. -
From: http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/warranty/factory/terms-and-conditions Items where the lifetime of the component is or can be influenced by driving style and external factors will only be considered under the terms of the warranty for a period of six months or 6,500 miles (whichever is soonest). Beyond that limit, the defects must be classified as wear and tear and will not be covered by the vehicle warranty unless a clear manufacturing defect is identified. Components subject to wear and tear include, but are not limited to: Brake linings and disc pads Clutch release bearings Clutch pressure plates and centre plates Tyres Wiper blades (wiper rubbers have no warranty owing to their conditions of use) Seat and backrest covers Floor coverings Spark plugs Batteries for key fobs and alarms Light bulbs Shock Absorbers

I think the 7.5 will be out for at least 3 years. Mk8 early 2020 with the performance models late 2020

I agree with the above posts. Looking at the reviews on the net the new infotainment system looks far too buggy. Gesture control looks to be a gimmick. Certainly at this stage of its development. I wouldn't mind the facelift but I wouldn't jump at the early editions. You are effectively just testing them for VW. So if you order now (Are the books open?) VW are telling customers 20 weeks. I'd maybe increase that given the previous history when the R was released. Say 6 months. You'd be in to August before collecting it. You also have the My18 changes which come into effect usually at the end of May. If yours is on track it would probably be built roundabout then. Sometimes VW do radical things. They added the ACC to the Mk7 very early in its life. All the first lot of cars never had it. In the Mk6 they also added rear LED lights but I think that was further into its life. I'm just throwing all this out there as there will be further changes that we don't have control over. Life is too short Don't hang about waiting on a car if you don't need to. The car you ordered was probably your ideal car a few months ago

Understanding and using your DSG box.....

Sounds totally logical to me what you've just described So I've had the car just over 4 weeks and today after putting it to the left and into manual to try the gear changes with the stick, for some reason I tried the paddle and it worked I can't believe I haven't tried that before now. I feel like a right tool I thought if it was in manual it had to be the gear stick up and down that changed things Driving that way was totally different to everything else I had tried. I felt I had complete control of the car. I also liked as you were coming to a stop it automatically changes down even although its on manual mode. I know it does that anyway in whatever mode you are in but it allows the driver to concentrate on shifting at the right time. My only gripe now is I lost the paddles a couple of times. I felt like I should be changing but the wheel was turned so I couldn't find them. Are the after-market paddles easier to find because they are bigger? -
Side Skirt Damaged on New Estate, Replace or Live With it?
RoundSquare replied to NinkyNonk's topic in VW Golf R MK7 Chat
Yeah totally agree. The paint looks thin and sparse. If paint chips you would expect some sign of primer at least, however on your car you can't see any primer at all! I'm in a similar position with the wife's GTI. The dealer damaged her lower spoiler and scuffed the paint under the front bumper. They painted it without our say so. Car was only a few weeks old!!! Anyway that's a different story. Her car is a year old next month but I've noticed the lacquer is now flaking off. I had the car coated in Durabead so I had to pay another £100 after they painted it. They obviously never prepared it right and tried to paint over the original Durabead. I'm loathed to let them try again but equally don't want them getting off scot free. To add insult to injury, I got the front bumper back slightly concave at where I thought they had tightened a bolt too tight. So I took it back to them but washed and polished it the morning of taking it back. Took it to them and they took it in their workshop. Came back out 30 minutes later with a dent in the bonnet!!!! They totally denied it was them and were extremely rude towards me. Given that I had just waxed the bonnet 30minutes earlier, I knew for a fact it wasn't there when I dropped it off. I've never been so mad. I could easily have been done with GBH that day  That's Arnold Clark for you. Anyway are you going to take it back to them? They could paint that end no problem but I'd be worried if they hadn't primed the end bit then they probably haven't primed the length of it -
As for upping the DRL's to 100% I did this to my GTD and GTI. Quite a few folk on other forums were warning me of burning out the lights quicker. I just ignored them All has been okay after 2 and a half years but its worth noting. Can you do the Audi mod where when you indicate it reduces the brightness of the DRL? I also did this on the GTI/D and it looked good but not sure it will work on the double U's

Side Skirt Damaged on New Estate, Replace or Live With it?
RoundSquare replied to NinkyNonk's topic in VW Golf R MK7 Chat
Looks like part of it has had stone damage which given where it is located is unavoidable. I wonder if the dealer will try and claim it was stone damage that stripped the paint. Which it clearly wasn't. -
Have a look at the search below as it appears to be quite common, more so on tuned cars. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site%3Awww.vwroc.com+clutch&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b-ab&gfe_rd=cr&ei=IWajWLOwNKeGgAbp54j4BA

Cardioversion? 2 days off? You're at it Good friend of mine has this done on her days off and I kid you not!! Good luck I hope its a success and see you on the other side when you're back in the R

That would be perfect. Yeah I only fire it up when in areas I don't know. Its the only time I don't mind trailing wires as its definitely worth it.

Understanding and using your DSG box.....
RoundSquare replied to belfast col's topic in General Chat
I don't know about not as engaging as i feel you really need to be switched on if you want to drive it properly. Having driven manuals since I was 17 now 48, apart from a 6 week spell in an auto Pajero which doesn't really count, I decided to jump on the DSG bandwagon. I've been caught out numerous times with the DSG. Granted its in D mode but I've really struggled to get to grips with it. Things like joining a busy motorway then you spot a small gap in the lane next to you, go to accelerate and nothing happens. Even using the paddles, it reverts back to auto to quickly for me. The example above I was using the paddles then just as I was about to move into the gap the car went up a couple of gears as it had reverted back to auto hence why I had no power as it attempted to come back down a couple of gears!! I basically just moved into the faster lane and then slowed right down Another scenario is in a manual when coming up to a roundabout on a dual carriageway I could happily go up to it in 6th then change straight down to 2nd or 3rd and away I go however in the DSG you have to work your way down which takes time. And as for time, in auto mode the car does shift the gears really quickly but I feel there is a lag when you press the paddles, Its not instantaneous which i thought it would be. Reading the advice in the first post of this thread has helped but I still get annoyed at times when the gearbox isn't doing what I was wanting it to do. I'm now forever looking at the gear indicator which in a manual I never did. I always knew instinctively what gear I was going to select. Now that odd time when I've changed the volume with the steering control and I need to know what gear I'm in is a bit of pain as you can't see it. I've tried putting it in to manual but my head is still in the manual gear change mode. For instance I was accelerating in 3rd and went to put it into 4th just as I was passing someone but my brain was telling me 4th is down the way which obviously put me into 2nd on the red-line. What a tool I looked i want to get to grips with it all but its not as easy as just pressing the accelerator and aiming where you are going.
