  1. Fully agree with this My wife's car (RCZ) developed a fault within 2 months of purchase (timing chain) from a dealer The dealer refused to accept their responsibilities as within 6 months of purchase (they have to offer a repair or replacement, or prove that the fault was not present when the car was sold). I took them to court, and of course won, with the repair cost (over £1000) being paid to me As suggested, speak with the dealer first and expect them to do the right thing Mark
  2. Hello, Went to the local VW main dealer on Saturday to test drive a nearly new R, the sales guy was a real petrol head having owned Skylines, Integras etc. spending many tens of thousands on their engines He was telling me that you can now code the manual 7R so that it reduces the amount of slip on releasing the clutch to help increase its life. This would make it more grabby, like the performance clutches. Whilst clearly this is not going to change its design, it does maintain the VW warranty as using existing parts. This was news to me, having spent a lot of money on replacing the standard clutch with a Sachs performance clutch. I thought I would post here to see if others were aware of this / think that this could be true, and that it may be helpful rather than going down the performance clutch replacement route Mark
  3. Hello, I topped my coolant up recently, no problems with the cap locking I needed to push down (some pressure) whilst turning the cap to remove. Once I had topped up, the cap when back on until the final half turn when the cap would not move any further. There are two fins on the cap, these are both pointing north If your car is under warranty then speak with the dealer, you could always ask for a pressure test at the same time if you have any concerns in respect of a low coolant level from the expansion tank gauge Hope that helps Mark
  4. Hello, My car (manual) makes a chirping noise when first pulling away or when changing down gears. The car has an upgraded clutch, I have been told that more revs are needed and care to match the revs on downshifts. When I get this right there is no chirp / squeak, so a good test for improving skill in driving the manual :-) Hope that helps Mark
  5. Very helpful link, thank you I might try the likes of Tootle.co.uk, First I need to get some photos if the weather improves this weekend. I do have the VW photos from a few years ago, but they look too staged (taken indoors under special lights) I was surprised that the car appeared to be worth so little, but will see what offers I get which should give me a better view on how to sell
  6. Thank you I have looked at parkers, and also autotrader (what is being sold and the car value estimator). The quotes were around £16k private, but the mileage for the valuation was 50k, my car has only 25k The car has a basic spec, not aware of any value adding options I forgot to mention that I also have a VW extended warranty until 09/2019
  7. Thank you, yes, I am looking for a facelift, late 2017 / early 2018
  8. Hello I will soon be selling my 2014, Manual, 64 plate 3 Door Lapiz blue Golf R The car has completed 25k miles, backed up by a full VWSH. Next Mot and Service are due 09/2019 In December 2016 I had the Xenon bulbs upgraded (by VW Robinsons) to Phillips Extreme Vision In February 2017 I had the Cadiz 19 inch Alloys refurbished (by VW Robinsons). Since then I have used winter wheels so there is no salt based corrosion In March 2018 I had a Sachs performance clutch fitted (by VRS Northampton) to avoid any future clutch issues The car is washed and cleaned inside every week (unless of course the temperature outside is too cold) I am thinking of asking £16.5k for the car, which seems fair from the research I have done As always it would be very helpful to get the views of the forum ahead of placing an advert in the classifieds Thank you Mark
  9. Yes, the clutch is the sintered one, fitted in March this year Very heavy when first fitted and was told to allow time to bed in (around 500 miles), now still heavier than standard, but no problem in daily use For me the best way I have found to drive is to not to be afraid to give some revs (especially on downshift) and then blend the clutch in. There are a few noises that you get used to (release valve can chirp sometimes when pulling away or on downshift when revs not matching engine speed), but more than capable of handling standard power with zero slip in 4th when joining motorways etc. at speed Hope that helps
  10. Hello, I am thinking about selling my 3 door 64 plate R just after Christmas (going to replace with a facelift R) I have not done any research on price, but car is basic spec (does have 19" Cadiz wheels, Lapiz blue, and upgraded xenon headlights), 24k miles, full VWSH, extended warranty until Sep 2019 and a Sachs performance clutch fitted earlier this year from VRS I will look to post an advert in a few weeks and see what happens then Mark
  11. Update based on visit to VW garage Master technician and I went for a drive to recreate the noise, view from the technician was that it sounded like the clutch release bearing. Recommended that the gearbox removed to confirm. Luckily I choice to extend the warranty and the release bearing is a covered item (labour estimate was £640). I will update again once the fault has been confirmed Mark
  12. Hello, Hoping you can help with a possible diagnosis ahead of taking to a garage. MK7, manual car, no modifications apart from the clutch which was replaced earlier this year. No noises when changing up the gears (either sequential or second to fourth for example). When changing down from fifth to fourth, or fourth to third, when the clutch is released there is a what I can only describe as a chirping noise coming from what seems like the front left of the car. Noise only started to happen this week, not all the time, it mostly seems to happen when there is a need to blend in the revs (taking third gear at 30 mph for example) A scan of the forum seemed to suggest that there is something called the clutch release valve?, and this is situated near the air intake (front left of the car) All help is appreciated Thank you
  13. Hello, I had my Sachs clutch fitted by VRS at the end of March. I had to take it careful for the first 500 miles. Advice was that I would need more revs when first pulling away. If car stuttered then that was a sign that more revs were needed. Fast forwarding to now, whilst the clutch is heavier than standard, the driveability has improved. I still need to be careful when first pulling away not to lift the clutch too quickly. Really pleased with the new clutch and can fully access all the power whenever needed. Hope this helps Mark
  14. So went with VRS in the end and had the clutch fitted on Wednesday 5 hour round trip (weather not great) to VRS. Job done in around 3.5 hours, great service, very happy so far
  15. I also recommend VRS of Northampton A round trip of 5 hours for me to VRS, good price on fitting a performance clutch. Job done in around 3.5 hours. Very happy with the service Hope this helps
