  1. I understand this problem,in my case not only does it change up just before a corner when about to brake hard but m,y main bugbear was that you can`t left foot brake without the engine cutting. HOWEVER when in Finland Mentioned this and the dealer played with software and on all Finnish R`s you can , and mine! The total control of the DSG is better but it still bangs up a gear, just at Max.
  2. After a lot of manual cars, I swapped my manual M5 for a DSG R. Hypothetically, at 0500 this morning i could have had a "dice" with my old car along the south coast in a slight damp road. Due to speed shifting in slippery roads against a GP driving gurut I was half way through a coffee before he arrived, all due to ability to put power down seamlessly, to me ,case proved.
  3. Dont be too hasty,I suspect the photo`s are of a car that has been down a sandy road or some other trouble, because mine are on their second set of pads and are smooth, with a lip admittedly but within limits.
  4. If you`ve got oil leaking there, no matter how little, its an indication of crankcase pressure. Try checking out crankcase vent system.
  5. As with another whinge about a paddle plate clutch, its for COMPETITION! An organic upgraded plate will do just as well on a road car but both will be stiffer depending on cover. A paddle plate will rattle like a bitch when clutch is depressed and need heat to really grip, then it wil judder and bite hard, thats what its designed to do. In a car designed for one that had pressure issues due to power, a certain german 4WD rally car had a washer jet feeding coke-cola onto the cover, it helped!
  6. Never fear, it WILL bed in and get lighter! You have bought a competition clutch so you must expect it to be stiffer, did nobody explain that to you? And just to really annoy you, a 23 spline clutch plate 4 puck, is £92 from JCB for a 4cx!
  7. This is a bit puzzling, a tow bar is a homologated option in Canada and the VW dealer in Sinsheim quoted me 420 yo-yo`s to fit one so logically if its legal and not a warranty problem in EU why not here?? My supplier Hawco said the same thing,NO,but I did not chase it as I have lots a warranty left. The same argument applies to my rusty exhaust(at weld points) that they would not allow me to replace with S/S.
  8. Before I was talked out of fitting a towbar to move race-car with a 5 door,Vw denied it was possible but US cars have tow limits and approved bars included in sales blurb,$254 fitted! The possible decrease in value of R was more than a Navarra, case closed! BUT I found all weight limits in German user manual so it must be EU approved, but not in UK??
  9. looking closely, that Hamanna kit is smoother than the original which stops before the A post with a huge brake outlet, and I think both what I saw and the wrc car have wider arches, the car only just fits into a MAN transporter which might make a country lane tricky!
  10. Just got back from Der fatherland where I was lucky enough to drive a polo WRC 2016. It might only have 300 horses but the torque is unreal, as is the speed of gearchanges. At the end of the day I noticed an odd Golf outside the hotel, asked what it was and was told it was a proto. Next day looked closely, imagine a Golf R with WRC arches and Aero, that mis-used term fits, awesome! It was at least 500mm wider than my R with an attitude, whether it is ever released I do not know but why on earth has no one made a body kit??!!
  11. If its any help,I`me a new owner but my old Passat 4motion did 160k but after the first service when the oil came out black, I got my local guy to do it every 25k, and it was definitely "used" even at that mileage. The other thing to beware of ,that happened twice by the dealer is that they do not remove the old seal which results in all sorts of trouble, when the dealer did job I got my guy to check and twice the old seal was crushing the new one,BEWARE.
  12. Greetings all, after seventeen years of driving from South to Pyrenees in my M5, the time has come to hit the 21st century, one test drive in an R did it, and , in the real world, I suspect that the R is quicker. I`me sold on car, don`t like the Soundackor but no doubt it will get silenced soon. Should anybody need breakdown or accommodation help in South New Forest then message me, or if you want an immaculate `92 M5!
  13. I recommend Hawco in Peterhead, know what they are talking about,as opposed to the branch in Elgin. Breeze in Southampton were recommended to me but we`ll see when I need something.
  14. I wondered why you were waving!
