  1. Thanks. Can you Share the cost? and did they do a ceramic coat too?
  2. hi, can anyone recommend a good detailer to give my car a spring polish and maybe a ceramic coat? Thanks
  3. Hi, I have just had a reply from the DVSA. As suspected VW have not accepted any responsibility. Below is the reply i have just received - case closed. ———— Mr Martin I have now had responses from the manufacturer. The manufacturer advises they do not have specific cases reported to them and a search of our database has not revealed any for this vehicle. The manufacturer believes the most likely cause is an impact but without further evidence it is not possible to confirm this. Additionally a previous impact (prior to the event) may have caused damage which could have gradually exacerbated to the point of failure. The glass used is an approved safety glass which, when shattering, breaks into small pebble like pieces without sharp edges. I have also progressed the bulletin action launched in the USA and Canada. This action refers to vehicles specifically built for the affected markets and relates to possible water leaks caused by a cracked frame. UK vehicles are not affected by this action. Having reviewed the available evidence DVSA considers it to be insufficient to support further action at this time. We will keep the case on file for further reference should we receive further reports. Thank you for contacting DVSA Regards
  4. I had the same replaced. Drive shaft hub/wheel bearing which seemed to fix it. Hope you get it sorted quickly.
  5. Check your policy as mine excludes sunroof glass 🤦🏼‍♂️
  6. Hi, it’s exactly that, their word against mine. I was completely caught between a rock and hard place. Accept their ‘good will gesture’ of 50% discount or go collect my car with a hole in the roof. The report that has been submitted to the DVSA was done by me using their online form process. I then emailed photos for additional information. All I know from them at the moment is that they are investigating? I will call them later this week if I haven’t heard anything.
  7. Good morning. So after a long week the outcome of this is; - VW warranty have deemed this not to be a warranty claim. They have said that the roof has been hit by something. The dealership in their report to VW UK have not been able to confirm or deny this. - As a ‘gesture of good will’ they are giving me a 50% customer care discount for the new roof and labour (cost to me is £500 give or take) feels like they are buying my silence tbh. Unfortunately it’s my word against theirs. I’m told by the VWCRM who has dealt with the case that this is VW’s stance and that’s final. It’s all very disappointing from my perspective. The dealership have been great and to be fair to them have been caught in the middle. The DVSA have acknowledged my case and the Vehicle Safety Defect Report is under review. Upon the outcome of the DVSA’s assessment / review, I will look at what options are open to me and if it is worth perusing this further in a small claims court. i’m also now considering if I want to drive this car on a 100 mile daily commute, I haven’t decided yet, but i’m close to putting it up for sale and being shot. Maybe once the dust settles I might feel different? Thanks for everyones support and advise.
  8. Hi, thanks. it is a five door. And not sure about having a weakness because of a sunroof, I would hope not, but at this point anything is a possibility. The car is at the dealers who have been great and VW UK have now assigned a customer relations manager (CRM) to the case to help with investigations. I don’t know if the roof is covered by the warranty, I should know that tomorrow. As mentioned, I have logged with with the DVSA and I have spoken to them today about this. They have photos of the car and a detailed report. My concern is the safely of my family and myself now. The VW CRM lady asked me what resolve I would want from this, amongst other things I have said a new roof with a protective film /wrap installed to the inside, so that if this happens again, it reduces the risk of injury to me and any passengers. I’ll keep you all posted as this unfolds. Thank you for everyone’s support.
  9. Hi, logged it this morning - thanks again. I have tried to contact them but with no luck, the phone number on their site is not working and the email address bounces back! Car is getting recovered to Camberley VW shortly and i’m off the eye clinic to get them looked at. Had an uncomfortable night with sore eyes. My doc has suggested I go and get them checked. Could do without all of this if i’m honest!
  10. I agree it is and it’s shattered into thousands of pieces, what I did get from it was glass dust in my eyes, there was like a film of what looked like iron filings but glass all over me and the interior of the car. I’m not sure it was a stone hit to be honest. The way the glass has shattered is, its sort of pointing upwards? Almost like it’s been hit from the inside? That’s what I couldn’t figure out, when I cleaned the glass and only found a small amount or not as much as I was expecting to find for the size of the hole! I started looking at the hole in more detail. The cars tucked away in the garage now so will pull it out and take more photos before it gets taken down to the dealer tomorrow afternoon. All very strange and very scary.
  11. Hi, Thank you for that, appreciate you sending that over, I will definitely report it in the morning. Depending on how VW deal with me and the issue, depends on whether or not I contact watch dog. They might be interested in this? The more I think about it and the consequences, the more I worry, just not worth thinking about the ‘what could of happened’. I drove my wife’s car this evening with my son in the car and the first thing I did was close the roof blind.
  12. Thanks guys. The site below is the one I found when I did a simple google search. http://m.carcomplaints.com/news/2017/volkswagen-exploding-sunroof-lawsuit-glass.shtml alot of the VW range is listed, specifically golf’s between 2015 - 2017, which mine is. (2016) There was a recall of 7000 beetles in 2014 for the same thing too.
  13. Hi all, HNY. So this morning i was cruising down the Motorway on my way to work, quietly sipping a coffee and listening to the radio, when all of a sudden there was an almighty BANG - sounded like a gun shot, thankfully it wasn’t, but to my surprise and total shock my sunroof had exploded. I initially thought that something had hit it, but when I cleaned the glass out of the car there was nothing inside to suggest that had happen and hardly any glass. Doing a bit of research on the internet it appears that it is not uncommon. In September 2017 a lady in the US filed a law suit against VW for the very same thing. I’m in discussions with VW UK who have raised a case, they have advised me to get the car recovered to my dealership, which is happening tomorrow for them to investigate. What scares me is the thought of my two young kids being in the car this morning. I was very very lucky that I didn’t lose control or get glass in my eyes etc... i’ll keep you posted with how this unfolds but thought it was worth letting you know all. The car is still under warranty so hopefully they will fix. It’s making me think about getting PPF fitted to my other car and this one once it’s sorted out, maybe that would limit the glass shattering all over me and any passengers. Has as anyone else experienced this? Will update further tomorrow.
  14. My car is in with Camberley today for this ‘clicking’ noise, which sods law wasn’t doing it this morning. Having had it up on the ramp recently we think there is play in the drive shalf which could be a cause? The top mounts are fine and the hub was replaced a few weeks ago, but unfortunately the noise came back? Will wait to see what Danny at VW Camberley fines. He has heard the ‘clicking’ noise on the car before so have confidence that he’ll get it sorted. Will update later once I hear from them.
