Hi all, car is 3 years old next month and 3rd service is due alongside MOT. I assumed this was a major service as I've just passed 20k miles. Phoned VW who say it's only due a minor service and the major isn't due till 60k or 6 years. Does this sound right?

How did you get on at the dealer?

There's one near me which has loads of wash bays and vacuum bays with various spaces nearby to park up and work. If I had similar constraints, this is what I'd do. Don't think I'd have the nerve to spend a half hour detailing in a single bay garage whilst a queue formed behind, as I know how pissed off I'd be if I was waiting in said queue!
-
Are there no garages nearby with washing bays which could use? Obviously not using their brushes, unless of course you're aiming for the sanded look but you could use their lance for rinsing and a tap for filling your buckets.

I have this too, like an inch or 2 of travel which results in the pedal clunking back to rest position.

As I found next to no info on roof boxes for the r estate when I was looking I thought I'd share some on this thread.... I bought a Kamei Husky L to go on my Whispbar Aerobars. It's a great fit and looks good. With the rear of the box up close to the antenna, the front sits almost at the point where the roof meets the top of the windscreen with no overhang, perfect. It sits nice and close to the roof which has a lot to do with the aerobar design. No wind noise that I've noticed although I can hear it rattling a bit when I drive over rough tarmac. I expect that to lessen or disappear once the box is loaded with cargo.

Thanks all for the replies. Andy6409 that's almost identical to my cars age & mileage so I'll be pushing for a warranty change. What's annoying is the other half's 5 year old Vauxhall Ashtray started first time after about 3 weeks parked up on the driveway. I actually jump started it before reading all these replies. Did it the usual way of connecting to the battery terminals, nothing different from older cars I've jumped. All electrics seem fine (so far).

Went out this morning to find the battery dead in my hearse. I know it's cold but I had the car out a decent run on Thursday night and it's less than 3 years old. Has anyone claimed a new battery on warranty? Also it is safe to jump start it? Done it on older cars but not sure if with these modern electronics it's a no no.

Thanks for updating - I have the same issue, been trying vinegar, cleaning the blades etc and nothing is working. Looks like new blades for me too.

Just to add, I have CQuartz on mine and it is very easy to wash then I give it a quick wipe over with Reload to top it up. It was applied almost 2 years ago and still appears to be holding up despite the Scottish weather.

Hi @carbyfed Lovely set-up. Are those Aerobars and what box is that? I've got Whispbar Aerobars but no box yet. Looking at the Aerobars when on my car, they seem to sit lower than the antenna height and I'm trying to work out if I need a box which doesn't quite reach the antenna or get a box which is raised at the back so it sits comfortably above.

Had mine since August and never had any issue with the turning circle.

Ecotune in Glasgow has a good rep and do a lot of work on Rs. Haven't used them my myself yet but will be for any future work.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've gone for the KC Green Star at £5 a litre, which sounds like very good value.

You could try roofbox.co.uk. I don't have seat covers and can't vouch for them but I noticed they sell seat covers when I was browsing roof boxes.

100% individual - Steering 100% Comfort - Sound 100% Eco - Drive 50% S, 50% D - Gearbox 90% manual, 5% 'why are you in 5th gear already', 5% 'ffs change up' - DCC 75% Normal, 20% Wallowy, 5% Teeth-shattering Can't remember the others as they're pointless

I hope you find the cause, 29mpg doesn't sound right at all. I'm intrigued - why would excess oil cause low mpg? Never heard that before.

Made the most of the mild dry weather today to do a quick wash and thorough clean of the inside including boot. Attached my Ali Express door latch covers, which look great. Also cleaned the wiper blades and the windscreen with white wine vinegar to see if that gets rid of the greasiness. Fingers crossed.

I got the Meguiars Clay Kit for Christmas so I've been reading up on using it. I'm seeing mixed views with many people saying only to use before polishing as it may leave marring. This makes sense but as I won't be polishing afterwards, given that it's ceramic coated (CQuartz), I'm a little concerned about leaving marring which would then require a polishing. My plan was to wash, decontaminate, wash, clay and then apply Reload.

Glad you're all relatively ok, that's the main thing. People are stressed out bellends at this time of year. They should get more organised or simply do without, instead of rushing around like idiots at the last minute. Good to know the estate held strong. I have one and a baby on the way.

This is all just semantics and boils down to how you define 'automatic'. Anyway, why the need to pigeon-hole it as auto or manual? It's a DSG.

I finally received these today 3 months after ordering. Other than 3 or 4 very small scratches they look really decent. Can't complain for $3.77! To fit, I assume it's just unpeel the double sided pads and press on? Anything to look out for? How are they holding up after being on a few months?

Recommended Ceramic detailers Glasgow/West of Scotland please.

The first owner of my car had it ceramic coated (CarPro CQuartz) at this place in Cambuslang https://www.defined-details.co.uk/ This is it here when it was in for the work :- That was about 20 months ago. I'm no expert but the coating seems to be lasting well. A quick wash and a top up with CarPro Reload gives good results. @Camshi has a good knowledge of this place and the quality of the work. You can see a few more pics at the Facebook page:- https://www.facebook.com/pg/DefinedDetailsGlasgow/photos/?ref=page_internal -
Just admit it, the button was pressed on wasn't it 😂

What with a sproglet due in January I'm tempted to get a roof box for the extra cargo (for the equipment, not for the baby itself). Anyone sporting one on their hearse? I've got a set of Whispbar Aero-X bars which attach nice and flush to the roof. Just need something to sit on top and I'm undecided on size and colour.
