I wish you'd stop posting such gorgeous photos. Our specs are similar and it makes my wait even more painful!!

All jokes a side I appreciate your cleaning routine as i've never had a car PPF'd or ceramic coated so that's great info!

Sorry bud! Ill stop....

This is my first ceramic and PPF coated car too, I have literally just go to town on the Gyeon stuff as I am yet to find any of their stuff crap. In fact I have an basket full of gyeon stuff on cleanmycar.co.uk at the mo, it totals more than I want to spend this payday though as I have to also fund taking the kids out with it being school hols and spending all my wages on the car (again) won't go down too well with my wife.... Especially as its new car month for her too (in a couple of weeks anyway) and we all know how expensive new car month is.... lol

Funny bro, I’m an aerospace eng as well (by training, at least :-))

but am not all that good with my hands, so other then keeping bicycle maintenance and hanging up pictures or shelves, I don’t fabricate much 🙂

Re your safety triangle cover, you should look at nylon 3D printing.

we have a couple of those at work, and the products that come out of there are very strong and sometimes better than injected parts. You just have to polish them for smoothness, and maybe color them, if you want specific tint.

No way. Thats funny haha

Yes I am looking into 3D printing and plan to buy my own printer so I can make even more over-elaborate stuff and the kids would love it if I could make them some toys too.

Totally understand! Any other products you reccomend other than what's in your post?

Yeah so many costs involved in a new car the first month can be quite painful. Adding PPF + Ceramic coating to that, October is going to be a rough month!

On my 7.5R i used the autoglym Polar wash and Polar blast snow foams with good results, still use Auto glym Shampoo too (only on the wheels or my wifes old (Still Current) car.

Maguairs Clay bars are good and their quick detailer is also good.

Any of the collinite waxes, 476S is a durable wax, although as you are having ceramics etc youll not need it. Although coating the chrome exhaust tips in wax is supposed to keep them from getting sooted up and pitted as quickly. Well see on that one though......

There is a huge detailing section on the forum somewhere and that is full of recommended products, I am not as knowledgable on detailing as the likes of Becs (@booth11) is but this is the list she posted up somewhere that I based some of my current purchases off.

(Stolen from Becs)

  • For the wheel arches, Interior plastics and gloss plastic exterior trim - Gyeon Q2 TRIM or CarPro DLUX which is great for sealing plastics  which can be used on both.  Probably the former.
  • Glass cleaner - Gtechniq G6 Perfect Glass and Gyeon Q2 View Coating kit or possibly Carbon Collective Platinum Glass.  Will be used for all glass bar the front windscreen as prefer to keep that free of products.
  • For weather strips - Swissvax Seal Feed
  • Drying Towels - Gyeon Q2M Silk
  • Wo-Wo lambswool mitt
  • Swissvax Quick Interior Finish which is good on anti-static properties
  • Metal polish for tailpipes - e.g Mother Mag and Aluminium Polish
  • Sealant for tailpipes - GTechniq Liquid crystal C2
  • Wheel sealant - e.g Poorboys Wheel Sealant; Gtechniq G5 or C2v3; Gyeon Q2 RIM
  • Engine Bay - e.g Aerospace 303
  • Seals and weather strips - Swissvax Seal feed fluid
  • Wheels and callipers - https://www.slimsdetailing.co.uk/search?type=product&q=Wheel* Woolies

I think VW is designed so aero guys would like it :-)

The home version of printers may sometimes be disappointing, so do your research before you buy (and try to avoid wire-based ones).
For your car, find an industrial one and pay them to make it. Just comes out much better.

Ordered a set of overlays yesterday from XX.Elusive on Instagram after seeing another member post something about his products. https://www.instagram.com/xx.elusive/

He has loads more products coming out soon too.

Took a bit of time to fit and the key is to ensure the area you are overlaying is completely dirt/grease free and take you time fitted them. The steering wheel VW was incredibly tricky to fit, and the R at the base of the steering wheel took me two attempts, luckily the guy sent me a few of the R's.

Some new detailing goodies arrived today from IODetail, I found this company and they have been brilliant!

Next day delivery for only a £30 spend. Result.

They stock all the products I regularly use too and they also included a sour apple flavour refresher bar in the box too haha

Take a look at www.iodetail.com

Bilt Hamber Atom Mac (thanks @Booth11)

Gyeon Wet Coat - More for winter time but I can have a practise with it now.

Gyeon Smoothie wash mitt for applying the Wet Coat actually. I have another of these mitts for washing the car too and it I really like it.

12 x MF cloths

Wash day sometime next week before I take it to SCC for its PPF and Ceramic check up on the 20th.

Fitted the Ali-Express special sunglasses holder today, took about 15 mins and that was with no instructions (it didn’t come with any). Really easy to fit once you work out how the spring clips work.

No broken parts, I think it would be difficult to break anything to be honest.

We’ll see how it goes, whether I change my mind on whether or not it fits well in with the rest of the interior…. The jury is undecided.

functionally it is totally fine, does it’s intended job well, the only reservations I have about it is that it isn’t a perfect fit to the contours of the headlining but that is nit picking really.

get the angled screwdriver (supplied) into this slot and gently lever downwards. (Same both sides)

which leaves these holes

it was easier to show the spring clip here once I had removed it, but by looking up (awkwardly) into the hole left by removing the plug above, you will see the spring clip.

get the bent screwdriver between the spring piece and the metal surround like this:

Lever the screwdriver so that piece of metal most inner springs towards the centre and gently pull down on the grab handle away from the headlining. Repeat the process for the same spring clip opposite this one (same side). There are two clips on each side so 4 in total.

gently pulling the grab handle whilst levering these clips releases it and comes away easily leaving this two holes.

place the sunglasses holder mounts into the holes and hold open.

push the new retaining clips into the mounts like so until flush. one per side.

I had to use flash on the camera so the roof lining looks lighter than the case but they are actually the same colour.

Right so I have owned the car for 3 whole weeks and 510 miles now so thought I would post some photos and let you all know of my findings and thoughts on the car so far!

I will start with 3 weeks worth of photos and will follow up with an honest review later on, its kids bedtime prep in 10 mins so a quick start coming up on here haha 🤣

Collected from James at JCB Medway in Gillingham again, he sold me my 7.5R so when I went through DtD again I was pleased to here it would be him dealing with me again. Highly recommended Salesman.

Here she is on collection day, unwashed and filthy but she still managed to show the potential to scrub up well.

WARNING PIC HEAVY!!!!!

IMG_0664.thumb.jpeg.64ece134824d623faf498f51c519e346.jpeg

Got her home and having been told by the detailers not to touch the car in terms of washing her I had to wait 8 days before she would go away on a spa break to be pampered.

Couple of shots out and about town.

Then I saw that my front doors had been fitted by Stevie Wonder......

Emailed James at Medway and he was very apologetic and was surprised this was missed on the PDI. He gave me the warranty details to use when going to my local dealer (Medway is a good 200 miles away), Inchcape Shrewsbury being one of my locals, Inchcape Telford are my actual local but after a disastrous (several) visits back in 2017, I have not graced their place since.

In true Inchcape fashion, they palmed me off saying I had to go back to where I purchased it from, so i contacted James again and he told me quote the warranty info he sent me and that Shrewsbury were able to do it, contacted Shrewsbury again and after quoting the 6 months/6000 mile initial adjustment warranty details they booked me in for the 12th July...... Well see what happens when it goes in! Although the drivers door seems to have settled a little and doesn't look so bad. My only worry is that if it has dropped slightly in 3 weeks to look ok-ish now then how will it look in 6 months time. Only time will tell I guess.

Anyway, the day after collecting her I had an Autowatch Ghost 2 fitted by Luke and the team at Car Theft Solutions from Sutton Coldfield, they came to the house and took around an hour to fit it. They went through a demo of the system with me, i let them just do it even though I had previous experience of Ghost 1 on my 7.5R. There are a couple of operating differences between ghost 1 and 2 but nothing much.

The following week it went away to Staffordshire Car Care in Rugeley for a Gyeon MOH+ ceramic coating and PPF fit on the front bumper and bonnet. 2 days later I collected it and wow what a job they had done!

8450243e-3b5f-403a-95d9-df07657e50ff.thumb.jpg.034602fc2ee140ee7c6c3b7bfbc12177.jpg

I have had to leave it until 10 days after this treatment to do the first wash myself, this is to give the PPF time to settle down and de-bubble itself, plus harden the ceramic coating.

Today was its first home wash.

Process as follows, which was a bit of trial and error as I have not used Gyeon products before.

Light spray of bug and grime - loads of bugs!
PPF Wash via Lance
Rinse
Foam via Lance
Used small brush to get in the nooks
Cleaned Wheels (separate cloths and bucket)
Rinse
Bathe essence via hand with lambs wool mitt (2 buckets)
Rinse
Dry using Gyeon Silk Towels
PPF maintain
Tyre endurance (maguires)
Cleaned chrome exhaust tips and waxed.

Here are the results: (I will change a couple of things in the next wash - final rinsing differently - with just a pure water flow rinse and not under spray setting - Thanks for tip @Booth11🙂)

Wheels will come off next time too I think.

Thats it for a start. Next I will write a full review on what I think of it as a car with all its quirks and annoyances.

Until then. Here she is.

Looks really nice! Really interested to know what the car is like compared to the 7.5!

I have been meaning to do a comparison at some point but with 2 kids, summer holidays and a busy work schedule I haven't found time to write one up! it is on the cards though.

All I can say quickly is I think it is very different.
