Waterpump & thermostat housing

I’ve taken my car to be tested at a specialist as I noticed coolant levels fluctuating, I then was hit in the face with a £1400 cost if I wanted them to fix it all with vw parts which I thought was very pricey. I’ve looked an around and waiting for prices for other local garages, there was also an oil leak because they said the Top Cam Cover needs replacing. Just wondered if anyone has any advice as I only got the car in October at 50k miles and the warranty was 3 months which ended on the 4th Jan which sucks.

I went back to VW 4 times with a coolant leak that they couldn’t find despite ultraviolet dye etc and then suddenly it stopped, and no-one, including the master tech, could tell me why…. They found no evidence of the 2+ litres that magically disappeared in the first a 6 months of ownership.

The vw service manager likened it to an air bubble that finally worked its way out of the system (the car has just turned 5 years old!) - go figure!

Sounds a little pricey for the thermostat and waterpump but genuine parts are pushing north of £400. Probably 4 or 5 hours book time. Diy doing myself took a lot longer.

Cam cover is a biiiiiig job. Guessing that's not in the quote. It is not a gasket it's an anaerobic sealant. And a lot of disassembly.

Forget the warranty, if it was a used car dealer then consumer rights statutory warranty give presumption of fault at purchase during first 6 months.
