AWD - Increased Traction.....

Is there a definitive answer as to whether this puts strain on components?

It all depends on driving style but generically, if increased traction requires Haldex to operate more frequently then components will need replacing sooner. It’s life duration is based on cycles not time usually.

That’s just my opinion but I haven’t come across anything to make me think differently.

Am running this one, with XDS deactivated and straight line braking turned of. Car is much improved in feel, if that's your thing

We have a cobble stoned large roundabout which is  very slippery when wet. Now I can really push the car without having XDS interrupting and improving your line artificially. Power out too early pushes you out on all 4 wheels. Haven't tested it out on track yet, but for now it's staying on. Stability on full power with all kinds of steering angles in both wet and dry is very good. Mind you not really a fan of the XDS system. I know some of you might rate it. Great article explaining all different performance VCDS tweaks, paths are similar on OBD eleven.

Thank you SugarGreg! I've been playing with the OBDeleven and I haven't seen the drivetribe post until you posted here. Now I have turned off the XDS but I have problem deactivate the Straight ahead braking. If anyone here can help me that'll be great.

The new thing I learn from the website is that I have to reset all adaptation in the basic setting after I set the wiring acoustic to a new setting, or any adaptation that can affect the Haldex calculation. I first deactivate the XDS+, and then set the AWD wiring acoustic to Increase Traction, then go to basic setting to reset all adaptation. I can feel that my R runs more proactive at the corner, compared to setting the XDS+ to medium or strong.

I also turned on the Live Data and tracked the Haldex pump change. The default torque to the rear wheels does not change in any wiring acoustic setting - always 12% when any wheel is moving. What changes is the reaction time for the power to send to the rear--Increase traction will be more instant, while reduce noise will take around a second to finish sending the power to the rear. With the calibration of the Haldex, it feels like the car knows there is no electronic brake to help giving the direction of which wheels need more power. Now when the car is steering, lot more power (>50%) will be sent to the rear so that the car won't be understeering.

All I BS above is just my feeling, my theory about the calibration of Haldex can be wrong. But try what drivetribe says in the article, the car just feels a lot more natural. (The part that XDS+ destroyed two R on the highway ramp scared me)

Still on the changed setting - no issues whatsoever. (Apart from a slightly increased noise at low speeds - as expected)

I did briefly try switching back to standard, and this setting is not a placebo - there is definitely a difference. Standard feels like front wheel drive, tweak feels like 4wd.

Give it a go and report back!

Old thread I know, but just tried this and what a difference it makes to the handling when pushing on 👍 the grip is instant, unlike the delay I find in the standard mode, car jumps out then grips on standard, with increased traction, the car feels like my evo 🥳 grip is awesome 🙏
