nictry
Off for the 3 hour drive to pick up my new (1 month old staff partner car) 7.5 today and arrive to a walk around of the car and looks like the dealership had used it for rallycross 🤬 20-30 stone marks on front bumper 2-3 ‘chips’ on bonnet and one chip on front of wing, to say that this wasn’t the mint/showroom condition car I was promised would be an understatement. Compared to the 7-8 times I have done a car purchase over the phone in the past and even the purchase I did with another VW dealer for my wife’s car 4 weeks ago which was all but perfect I was so angry I am not sure how I managed to control my language/tone with them Initially they offered to ‘polish’ out the marks which after my response they took me a bit more seriously - so options were take my 2 car p/ex back the 150 Miles we had just driven and go find another, take the car as is and get the front end resprayed myself (which they said they would not pay for!!!!) or they agreed to paint the bonnet/wing and front bumper and provide a loan car to go home in and then they will deliver the R when it’s done, ultimately the option I chose but even 5 hours later I am still steaming over the situation Why does a dealer think to not mention something this obvious, pretend the car is mint when it’s not, try and cover it up with a few touch up pen attempts and expect a customer to accept this on a 30k car with one month and 1k miles on the clock, seriously unbelievable I know some will say I should have just rejected it but ultimately I cannot be bothered to go back to the start in negotiations with dealers not to mention the drive back and again to another dealer in the future! Rant over but needed to get it off my chest! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

ItsJustaR
Yeah dude you were suckered into buying it. You were still in the wrong for buying it like that. They will never learn a lesson as long as they keep getting people to buy garbage like that. Personally I love driving in general and I would have said I'm not buying the car, explained why, and said I'm leaving and taking my business elsewhere. I have a 2018 DSG Golf R Tornado Red that's already modified APR carbon fiber intake and stage 2 carbon fiber turbo inlet pipe and 93 octane high torque stage 1 tune and APR silicone coolant hose.Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk Pinky1959 and adibordoy

aniseedvan
I feel your pain. Mine was very minor in comparison, but brand new car bought on the internet, but I insisted on an in person pickup (about 80 ish miles away). Rear had a load of plastic residue that I had to insist on the dealer valeter to be found and clean off to ensure it wasn’t a paint defect. It was going into a detailer for the full works two days later so I wasn’t too fussed about everything else, but I was made to feel bad by the dealer for refusing to sign the paperwork until it was rectified..The whole handover was appalling. All I can say is thank god for the hints and tricks sticky on here, I learnt a lot more about my car from that than the sales lady...Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I am guessing then that you agreed to buy the car on the basis of the dealer's (false-sounding) description and photo's, without actually seeing it? If so, I can understand the reluctance to go on a 6 hour round trip 'just' to have a look at it (especially when it is basically new), but that is the potential problem with long distance purchases. When my partner bought her ex demo Up! the local VW dealer arranged for the VW dealer with the car (65 miles away, same group I think) to get it over here so she could have a proper look at it and do a test drive, so I am guessing that that wasn't possible or practical in your case. As you suggest, most of that damage was probably present when you agreed the purchase/paid a deposit, because it shouldn't have been driven at all after the sale was agreed. Having it look as bad as it sounds when they knew you were coming to pick it up is of course inexcusable, and just shows what they think they can get away with. On a £30k car it beggars belief, as you say. Did they at least agree a reasonable time frame for getting the required work done? I would have said 2 weeks max, and have been asking about some proper compensation for your upset and inconvenience. Gavras

Charles M
Nictry hope it gets sorted. Personally if the dealer sorted your Mrs out properly, I would have stuck with them even if it took time to get the car you wanted.

Golf67
What is a "staff partner car"? Why would they give a member of staff a new R for just one month and then sell it, suffering ££ depreciation?

I would have said 2 weeks max, and have been asking about some proper compensation for your upset and inconvenience.Sadly too far for a test drive, I have only had one dealer agree to that years ago (funny enough on my wife’s old R) but that was around 60 miles away this was nearer 150 miles and the other 3 dealers I talked to were further stillWhat annoys me most is I meticulously describe my p/ex so that there is no issues on swap over and I expect the same, I really don’t know whether the damage was done before or after the deal was agreed (10 days ago) but either way there is just no excuse not to make me aware and to try and touch up some of the chips is even more galling!I have agreed that they will have the work done by next Friday (although on my experiences so far I remain to be convinced) and to avoid bringing both my cars back they provided me with one of their cars and a tank ofFuel to get me home and are going to deliver the R to me again with a full tank of fuel so I guess there is some goodwill but nothing to make up for the fact they weren’t honest in the first placeEither way sour taste left after this and I am not really sure they actually understood why I was so p****** off either which is just ignorance or bad practice on their part!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
