I’m going to order some. How long was delivery?
I presume with steering wheel assist is with the cut outs for the side assist lights?

Ordered 05/04 and delivered 15/04.
Yeah, that’s the ones with the cut outs. Worked out £42 with delivery and tax.

Just a heads up for anyone ordering Bosch Aerotwin wiper blades.

Got mine today and fronts usual fit so all good.  However VW have changed the rear wiper so the mk8 oem blade is smaller than the mk7/7.5 blade and the fitment is also slightly different and Bosch A282H blade doesn’t fit.  I’ll return it, and try to find out what the rear one is.

Did anyone find out what blade would be needed for the rear wiper?

thanks :)

No luck as yet I’m afraid.  Searched a few sites but nothing, even Bosch own website does that go beyond Mk7/7.5.

After seeing @guy1 fitted one in his lovely new R, decided this was a worthwhile purchase as I find lifting that heavy bonnet a first world chore!  😁

Thanks to @guy1 for posting the part number in the bonnet strut thread, and to @dopper99 for posting up the eBay link to one.  😊

I agree!

I don’t know if anything extra is needed.  Hoping @guy1 will off some insight to that.  @guy1 anything else required to fit the strut in addition to the part from eBay?  Any advice would be much appreciated.  Thanks

Think you need something on the bonnet..:)

Have you notice the bonnet is much softer, it flex when washing ;) . And the doors seems to have thiner metall aswell ;). Notice that when we polished the Mk8 vs my Mk75..

I actually think there is marginally less flex in the mk8 panels than there was with my mk7 (pre facelift car) including the bonnet.  😄  It does flex but only if you put a certain amount of pressure on it. I was waxing my car yesterday and only got one flex episode in one spot on the 8R bonnet whereas the mk7 would be several doing the same task.  Maybe with advancing age I’ve just got weaker a few years down the line!  😂

The doors are notably thinner - don’t make that usual satisfying VW Golf door ‘thunk’ of old - quite often I find they don’t actually close fully when I shut them (hmm maybe I am getting weaker, lol), and I have to slam them.  And I think quite a bit more wind noise from the doors at motorway speeds.

You will need:

  1. 1 x mark 7 or 7.5 strut part no: 5G0823359
  2. 1 x GAS STRUT END FITTINGS 10MM BALL PIN BLACK https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PAIR-GAS-STRUT-END-FITTINGS-10MM-BALL-PIN-BLACK-MULTI-FIT-GSF49-/201856379314?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286
  3. 1 x 10mm Nut (I already had this at home)
  4. 2 x washers (as the hole on the bonnet is bigger- again I already had these)

I bought the gas strut end fittings from eBay- they come as a pair but you only need one that goes on to the bonnet.

Process:

1. Insert the ball pin with the washers on either side in to your bonnet and tighten into nut.

2. Get the gas strut and click it in to the engine bay ball pin which is already there.

3. Click the other side of the strut into the ball pin which you have put on to the bonnet

I have put up a picture so you know what hole you need to put the ball pin into.

Once done enjoy lifting the bonnet!

@guy1 If you get a minute, would you mind copying and pasting your DIY post above  into a new thread in the How to section as it will no doubt be much sought after info over the next few years.  If you don’t have time then let me know and I’ll post it up in there.  Thanks very much.  😊

@Booth11 I am just in the middle of taking my wheels off my car so I can ceramic coat them. Will appreciate it if you could post it up in there. Thank you!
