Is it the same as here?:

No, at the time of posting that the Golf was fitted with SFD1 which we could use OBDELEVEN to make changes because it was cracked a couple of months after launch.  But sadly that stopped in 2024 when they introduced SFD2 on all VAG models.

In addition, OBDELEVEN issued new dongles (cashing in no doubtb) but as it stands, we can't make this type of change because SFD2 hasn't been cracked as far as I know.

The 1-click app that Kev mentions is interesting though. However, there's a risk you take when using these Apps because you don't actually see what changes are being made or how to undo them.

I’d be very wary of using 1 click apps for the reasons John says - you really don't know what is being changed and whether it will change back to what it previously was if you try to undo them.

You can set up shortcuts on the information screen to make it a bit quicker to turn off Lane assist, Start Stop etc.  One of the day views gives a quick access to turning off Lane Assist and the Speed warning.  There info on it in the 8.5 operational tips thread.

Been a while since I was on this forum, but just wondering how everyone’s 8.5 are going (particularly the Black Edition)

Our R20 will be 3 next month and whilst it has been very reliable so far (that’s done it now…) with only the sos module needing sorting, we don’t tend to keep newly bought cars much longer than that.

Sort of looking at the Black but is it much of a change from the R20?
Any particular issues showing so far (like the early bugs in the 8 ) ?

Have seen quite a few well specced lightly used ones for sale, so may well end up with one of those.

cheers.

Hi @Nurdle, good to see you here again.

Might be worth having a scan of this thread for some of the issues reported on the 8.5R

And also this thread which is about the paddle malfunction, many of have experienced.

My own R Black Edition has been pretty low on issues - had one instance of multiple errors a while back which hasn’t been repeated, and I’ve experienced the paddles stopping working (both issues reported to dealership).  Had a random instance of the rear windows dropping mid journey but nothing since. Those aside it’s trouble free so far and is a fab car.  Can’t compare to the R20 as I moved from a mk8 PP to the mk8.5 but lots of improvement over the mk8 imo.

Thanks, will have a look through..

A bit disappointed VW still can’t send a new model out with several issues though! (But not just VW, as I know only too well…)

I notice the hvac controls on the 8.5 - are they always on the screen no matter what else you have showing?

Just had an update on the Golf and the salesman has told me that VW have stopped making the estate, no pre warning, if I wanted to order one now I can’t. Also he’s been told the the Golf hatch will shortly cease production?, I have no reason to disbelieve him but has anybody heard anything about it?.

Hopefully our now even rarer 8.5R estate will have a really good trade in price when it’s time to change in a couple of years time.

Although I’m really struggling to think of anything similar to replace it with as estates of this type seem to have become very unfashionable due to the ridiculous popularity of SUVs.

Another 8.5 newbie question - sorry if this has already been discussed, i couldn't find anything on it. With the Mk8, while cycling through the various options for external exhaust sound, you could really tell the difference between the modes. On the 8.5, it seems the exhaust note is quieter, and I can hardly tell the difference between the modes. I only just got the car on Friday, and I offloaded the Mk8 in June (I mostly use another car in the summer, so it didn't make sense to keep it), so it could be my memory playing tricks. Am I imagining it? I'm not revving agressively until it's run in, so keeping under 4000rpm.

Maybe the impact of EU regulations to progressively reduce vehicle noise levels over time?

In addition to @R_wannabe_owner’s comments above, you might want to have a look at this thread Suki.
