Scudgie
Anyone with the first gen obd11 dongle will not successfully pair their dongle on an 8.5. I did this in March but it seems - and here I go again with one of my conspiracy theories - that the dongle is no longer supported for 2024 cars onwards. A next gen dongle is required. Nice way to earn a few more $$ by suddenly making the original dongle incompatible..... despite the fact the next gen dongle can't crack SFD2 either
AHG
I think it’s fair to make a $60 product obsolete after a decade

I happen to like reading about conspiracy theories - they speak volumes about the the tendency for the human brain to want to make sense of stuff in the 21st century that is often unfathomable! Anyhow you are correct about needing a nextgen OBD11 dongle for SFD protocol cars. However, I'm confused about your statement "I did this in March" because AFAIK the limitation of the white dongle is hardware based - so they never were compatible with the newer Golf!! Don Good morning Don Yes, I successfully paired with the white dongle in March. That's why it took me so long to cotton on to the fact I needed the next gen module when I tried again recently - well that and the fact I'm so old 🤣 What I do need to add to this is that it did throw up two faults regarding communication leaving me to think at the time that it wasn't a full scan. I wish I had exported the report so that I could explain these in more detail.
dv52
@Scudgie: If you are not aware- OBD11 keeps records of almost ALL reports/changes that you make. The data is stored against your account on the central servers on the OBD11 mother-ship. Coincidentally, I recently explained the process of retrieving the previous SCAN reports to Dave - see my words HERE. Don Scudgie
AHG
It could be the case that the hardware is capable of connecting to the 8.5 for scanning, but does a poor job at it or is limited in all aspects of future SFD capabilities, so instead of answering 100’s of malfunctions that may arise they decided to make it obsolete for 8.5 and above, and changed the app to not connect if they identify an old dongle attached to a 8.5 (kind of like Apple does with their watches, and iOS). Which again, is pretty fair IMO, after over a decade and seeing it is only €65 (unlike VCDS cables than back in the day used to cost $250 and even higher). BTW, they have a sale today for VW being 88 years old, €80 for dingle + 12 months of pro sub. Also 3-yr pro sub for €120. But if one has a lifetime pro, they just need the dongle. Mine is also in on Thursday. We can compare notes. 😂 Where was the result for you on Thursday??

Posted up on previous page in here, but in short lots of faults logged on ODIS system but nothing tied to a specific issue (and car is driving fine). Nothing showing up for the paddle issue and of course it couldn’t be replicated but it’s been noted. Nicknotts

I wasn’t expecting much else but at least they did see all the faults and gave me a copy of the report. I told them about the shop dynamic background lighting theory and they thought it could be possible but ??

Scudgie
Found an odd error yesterday in that both of my 12v sockets are not working. Checked fuse 52 - all good. Tried it in both the Ign / permanent live positions but no joy. I tried different adapters - confirmed to be working on SWMBO's car - still no joy. I'm thinking that it would be extremely odd if both sockets are faulty. Does anyone have any ideas? Also, just to fuel the conspiracy theory even further, the next time I started the car I received the thanks for adding Dynamic lighting message 🤣 VW life !! I added Dynamic lighting some time ago when it was a free month trial. Honestly couldn't see what it was doing or how it was of use. The only change I noticed was it flashed the ambient lighting inside if I put the hazards on, hardly worth the monthly premium they were asking for. Anyway, I had no problems when it was installed. I've never tried my own 12 volt sockets (note to self to check), maybe a relay isn't working to turn them on?
