It is definitely a VW related song with a fried-out Kombi on the first verse (transporter, I think we called them) Many years ago, a friend, and I gave ourselves a gift after completing our undergrad course - we decided to drive a Kombie across the Nullarbor desert which spans West Australia. It's a 2,695 km trip on the Eyre highway, which is laser-straight and dead-flat - so absolutely no throttle control needed! We learned how to change driver whilst driving at speed without stopping the car (Kombie has a bench seat). Youth is definitely wasted on the young Yes, "chunder" is about beer - I was paraphrasing for the purpose of alliteration!! The video below is for "un-initiated" Poms! (RIP Greg Ham - the "black dog" is a terrible thing) Don

It happens at least once in a month, it starts usually during a longer drive with error “unable to show total distance” then all the other 15 errors pop up. Sometimes the rear windows pull down 20%, and if you pull them up they will go down again. After giving the car break for few minutes it reset itself, but the driving modes are missing or the engine warning stays (but its gone after few drives again) I swear it always occurs for me when I’m far away from the dealership or its already closed and as other mentioned the errors wont stay in the vcds history, it’s frustrating as hell. Exactly this; I forgot to mention the driving modes disappearing on mine too. Can I ask, do you have any devices fitted to your car that use the battery when the ignition is off? (for example a Tracker or Dash Cam)?

Nicknotts
Yep, I've had that a few times now where no driving modes are available other than Comfort... normally I get that for a few drives after the 15 error messages that seem to kick off randomly aswell as the rear windows winding down on their own. One trip the central locking kept locking and unlocking the doors. I also get please start the engine manually when at lights after the stop/start stops working, auto hold disabled..... engine warning light on with no other errors then dissapears.... lets hope it is all just sofware bugs!! My car finally goes in on thurs next week for diagnostics!! Scudgie and Booth11
MJC1216
As a Mk 7.5R owner i love this thread...i was hoping the 8.5R would be gremlin free and although it's early days and not looking good it maybe better than the Mk8. I would have bought the 8.5R but a change in cirumstances means i am heading towards a Rav4 or similar. I couldn't live with even some of these minor issues and yes i know they effect other cars but VW really seem to have more problems than most...on top of that the garages seem to be pretty useless at sorting out the issues or remembering the customer comes first. Maybe Becs can point me in the direction of the Mk 7.5R gremlins thread although i would think it could be a lonely place.😂 Thank you VW for saving me money and my sanity. Scudgie
One other thing that happens with the bong fest is that I always get a message when I next start the car saying thank you for your purchase of the Dynamic Background lighting - almost as if something is being reset within the infotainment system. Come to think of it, I never had this problem before purchasing it last month. 🤔 Here he goes again on another conspiracy theory 🤣🤣 AHG

robdfr
On 10/05/2025 at 22:35, dv52 said: Rob: I'm with Rebecca (it's a safe place to be! 😀) - even if you were using VCDS (which doesn't support SFD - let alone SFD2), it's usually possible to SCAN a car with both of the post-2020 protection protocols. Regardless of whether VCDS, or OBD11 is used, the process of creating a SCAN simply involves the Gateway module (which is the master diagnostic module) polling the other modules on the CAN network for their identity and for the contents in each module's fault memory. A SCAN doesn't change any aspect of module coding - it is ostensibly just a data dump process. So, it does NOT require any module to be "unlocked", per se. Hence the access prohibitions of SFD/SFD2 should NOT be binding for a simple SCAN! I'm not sure why you are experiencing SCAN access problems with OBD11. My only thought is maybe you are using the wrong software- no offense intended. OBD11 has two software versions: OBDeleven VAG Car Diagnostics OBDeleven OBD2 Car Scanner It's OBD11's objective to meld 1. into 2. eventually - but irrespective of the word "Scanner" in 2. and as of the present time (and especially for the latest release VAG cars), you should be using 1. above Don PS: For more details regarding the 2 x OBD11 software versions, check out the FAQ - HERE Thanks for that , going to have another go today and see if I can get it sorted. Scudgie
My new dongle arrived today and, despite my Engine Management warning light no longer showing, it still found 9 faulty control units and 33 errors in total - every single one is an intermittent error. A distant 2nd to Rebecca's 80+ error codes, but it's evidence nonetheless for when they try to fob me off when it finally goes in.
