tommymortago
Don’t get me wrong I still love the car and tbh I’m not convinced the situation is better at different VAG or non-VAG brands. I got compensated by VW for my turbo breakdown after 1300km and months time wait for new one - they invited me to the R driving experience to Most. It was a great experience, we drove the 8.5 R Variant / T-Roc R and had a drifting course with the 8.5 R Hatch. Nice to hear that you got a great and memorable experience out of the regrettable turbo issue @tommymortago.
DSarge
Wish VW had offered me some sort of compensation when my turbo needed replacing. Six weeks without the car whilst the part was awaited and fitted, and nothing from VW. At least they honoured the warranty.
MalakianCigaro
Does anyone know if theres a way to fix the bosch wipers hitting the pillar without having to go to dealer, im sick of that place. The one that hits seems to judder like mad as well, It's the first time I've upgraded to bosch and it's been a pain in the ass.

It’s weird because I always fit Bosch wipers but this is the first time I’ve ever had them hitting the A pillar (never happened on my mk8 or mk7). It’s only happened twice for me so far and each time I just tweaked the position of them and then they are ok until next time. I can’t be bothered to take it to the dealership for that. You could always put the original wiper blades back on if it really bothers you.

It's weird If I wipe the screen when it's not raining it doesn't hit but when it's raining moderately they hit say 3 of out of 5 wipes and it's quite a load thud which is disconcerting.Sent from my SM-S918B using Tapatalk
AHG
It may be hydroplaning when there is just the right amount of rain Wipers are not unlike tyres and different ones will have different properties I think there is a way to calibrate the stroke of the arm Read it somewhere for the Golf (can’t say where) but it’s fairly simple and supposed to be common to other vehicles. You may have to remove some trim from under the bonnet and then just a hex or some other tool to adjust. Apparently it is a known issue in other cars (and not only with Bosch): https://youtu.be/J7P3nQ1rv_o I’d perform this procedure when the wipers are in service mode as that would make it is the farthest position so will be easiest to verify it doesn’t touch the pillar (also, when ending is off the wipers are coming up a bit) Same explanations here: https://www.f150lightningforum.com/forum/threads/driver-side-windshield-wiper-hitting-a-pillar.17742/#:~:text=You just need to pull,by one or two splines. IMPORTANT EDIT: Apparently this has no effect on the Golf 8/8.5 as they have electronic encoders that determine the stroke limit, so the only way to fix it is to take it to the shop where they hook it up to a VAS and calibrate the encoder to stop shorter. Moving it mechanically would not matter as it will keep moving until it reaches the stopping point t, regardless of mechanical initial angle. mahalo
BTDT - On my Golf Mk 8R the wipers did indeed touch the A pillar which was worse when raining as the windscreen has less friction. I tried the adjustment outlined in Andy's garage like I had on previous cars with this issue - it did not work despite repeated attempts. Took it to the VW dealer explained the problem and they indicated the way to do this was not by removing the wiper and re-adjusting the position but was by adjusting the electronic limits - they then proceeded to attach the car to their diagnostics system , adjust the electronic limit whilst I waited and then gave the car back to me. Took about 10 mins to do and after that no problem. MalakianCigaro, AHG and Booth11 2

Looking at ordering an Estate on a PCH Deal, and remembering how bad the Mk8's sounded with all the steering wheel issues etc, I thought I'd check in with all you Mk8.5 owners as to how good/bad it is. Also, anybody know why currently on the VW website it says that Golf Estates are only available from Stock? Have they paused new orders or something? Thanks for any help, comments, feedback!! I'm nearly 5 months in to my 8.5R and it's been nearly perfect. My only issue has been a failed LHS rear light cluster, replaced under warranty after a bit of a wait. No bong fests, no paddle issues, no steering wheel issues, no ICE screen issues, no other dramas. Please do NOT adjust the wipers mechanically as in that YouTube video. Edited June 5, 2025 by blizzard60 Rookie mistake quoting the wrong post. None taken and quite the opposite, it is very important to learn that it has electronic encoder measuring its position, which would make any mechanical change a waste of time. I added a note of that in my previous post. So anyone reading it in the future would not try it
