Just. Awful. Sorry m8.

No I think you should absolutely do a warranty claim. We need to keep volkswagen accountable. Its NOT a cheap car.

I am going to dealers tomorrow with a nice list.

Seats.

TPMS turning itself off.

Sign recognition turning itself off.

Paddles not working.

Paint job.

I think we deserve the car we paid for - not more nor less. I am fairly lucky cause Swedish consumer laws are very harsh on this and I am certain they will fix it. I mean if they stich it together so it matches the other side without me seeing the difference I would be happy. I am not impossible. A new seat might have some different colouring.

All they seem to do in the UK is fob people off……don’t get me started about the quality of our roads either!!!

I think there’s a dip in most manufacturers of late…..certainly in wifes BMW the lower section of materials are not as good neither are the carpet mats! Mercedes have cheap nasty plastic everywhere!

I think a distinction needs to be drawn between;

  • some manufacturers using some lower quality materials

and

  • manufacturers delivering cars to customers with obvious build faults - e.g. badly stitched seat covers, misaligned body panels, paintwork imperfections, items of equipment not working.

The first - i.e. use of some lower quality materials - I could (reluctantly) accept. In fact some customers won’t even be aware of a switch to the use of lower quality materials if it’s the first car they’ve bought from a specific manufacturer whose made such cost cutting measures.

The second - delivering cars to customers with obvious build faults - isn’t good enough. A new car is an expensive purchase, and it’s not unreasonable for customers to expect it to be delivered in perfect condition. IMHO faults should be put right without question; fobbing off tactics by the dealer or manufacturer are totally unacceptable 😠.

Great post and totally agree! The trend to cheaper materials is everywhere. It is not just a VAG thing. And it's not just an automotive thing. Our washer and drier at home were like 6 years old and we had to replace them because Samsung repair guy "couldn't get parts". What the heck! They were NOT cheap. He showed me inside the drum and it's just plastic everywhere! Any way, WAY off topic there... LOL. Back to the point: again, great post @R_wannabe_owner!!

That will need some live data logging outside of the main dealers capacity …..VW seem only to work with fault codes from other responses at dealerships.

Hopefully. Blizzard gets a solution.

I know what I’d personally do is when it happens go straight to my local dealership and get the master tech to drive the car and record its issue even if there’s no fault code there’s an obvious fault. Leave the car there if possible.

If they get awkward get the techs name and ring VW at LMilton Keynes explain the issue and then ring VW finance and tell them no more payments until it’s sorted. Being fobbed off is an insult when paying £££ per month for a faulty product and they have the cheek  to retort there’s no faults.

As I said if the factory are aware now (Mr Blizzard) then surely they can speed up the solution.

Is this at me?? I *WISH* I could provide a solution!! I, unfortunately, cancelled my MK8.5 order (NOTHING to do with this issue), so I can't even help test this. I have yet to hear anyone report this issue in Canada or the States, interestingly.

It is, I believe, @TheJetMan who is all over this with maybe Barnsley? If I remember correctly he's also made contact with folks in Germany and perhaps at the factory to get updates, with is fantastic for everyone!

I have access to several MK8.5's here in Canada through friends and colleagues (we now have a trifecta of R's at my work, lol, my Lapiz MK8, a Pure White non-BE MK8.5, and a Mythos Black BE MK8.5!), so if I can pull software versions or scans for anyone I'd be more than happy to as I have the diag tools to do so. But I'm sorry, that's about all I can offer!!

Is that 1985 on a mk8 ?

I updated to 1985 today and noticed the song icon on the dash doesn't change when the songs change (on CarPlay).
Annoying, but really not a big deal. Just hope that is the only issue with it (or the worst of them).

Tommymortago has an 8.5, not a mk8 so not going to be that software, hence his post in an 8.5 thread.

This is specifically the 8.5 gremlins thread so best to post mk8 stuff in the relevant mk8 thread. 🙂

On the other side of the news, since the latest OTA update which did something to the 'System extensions' part of the infotainment I haven't experienced a single bong fest. That's like month now, so fingers crossed it's gone for good!

Same here - although I did have an episode shortly after the OTA when the infotainment was completely unresponsive- apart from only being able to lower the volume.

Hard reset later - no issues since. Fingers are definitely crossed.

I picked up my car 3 days ago and my blind spot monitering isnt working, has this ever been a common issue here? its been ceramic coated so im wondering if thats done something with the cameras? any easy fix to this?

This might be something fairly straightforward; I seem to recall it's possible to disable this feature within one of the Assist Menus. Sorry I'm not near my car to find out which one
