Noticed the other day on our ID.4 that when adjusting the drivers side door mirror the passenger side one also moves!!  We then have to switch the mirror selector the Left mirror and correct that one.  I mean that is just mental.  Also notice occasionally when the front windows are open that when you pull the switch up to close it, that the window opens further.

There is a setting you need to change, sounds like you have it on synchronized, which mean they both move.

You lot are right putting me off ordering a brand new Golf R Estate that is about to hit the production line soon 😂.  Contract Hire deal so wouldn't maybe feel as aggrieved about issues as if I'd put more money in to PCP/Buy the car - but even so - any way of getting in an R is not cheap relatively so you'd expect it to be of higher quality.  My current Mk7.5 R Estate is faultless.  Just need a replacement of something highly similar that I can put a towbar on, or has a towbar on already.  A new R Estate hits all the buttons for driveabilty, power, space, looks (love a sporty estate) and affordable.  M340i Touring would be the rival, but that comes with a bigger price tag!

To be fair since we got the car brand new, on the 13th March,  it’s not put a foot wrong, just over 7000 already. Spoke to the dealer today and booked in, no record of the fault on the car and not happened today, the dealer said there are some updates for it.
It’s our fifth R, all estates, two 7.5’s, two 8’s and this 8.5 is the best of all of them.

If our dealer hears any news of a mk9 or they stop making them altogether, he’s calling me and I’ll have no hesitation in ordering one of the last.

You can change that mirror behaviour by changing the "synchronized mirror" setting in the infotainment. Easy to do.

Unfortunately the window thing is a common issue with the ID.4s. Is yours on ID software version 5?

Hey captjack,

Thats all good to hear!  Are you in the UK?

As you have an 8.5 R Estate would you do me a huge favour and let me know if your rear Diffuser has the pre cut hole in it that would have facilitated the retractable towbar?  My understanding so far is that R Estates come with that diffuser whereas the Hatch comes with a more aggressive looking one with no towbar hole in it, or a simpler looking diffuser with the hole in it when the Towbar was added as an option.  Your help on checking what yours has would be very very appreciated!! A couple of photos of it would be even more appreciated!  Thanks.

Hi Gary,

Yes I’m in the UK, didn’t go for the tow bar option, so not sure how the diffuser would look, this is how ours is.

Hope this helps.

Steve

OT: Drive both. But be warned: those Bavarians are great cars. I test drove two and bought them on the spot. If money isnt a problem, and I dont know how much driving you do but the M340d is also very nice machine for long trips:) just saying

If you under and inside the 'void' of the diffuser does it look like this:

Keep your 7.5……save a load of ££££

Unless you’re bored of it or miles are very high why bother. The 7.6 still looks fresh and equally capable.

I can’t stand the stupid IPad screen stuck in the way …looks like they couldn’t be bothered integrating into dash like the S3 etc …..cost cutting 😡

Have you driven an 8.5?

I was not a fan at all of the ipadesque screen and lack of integration with the rest of the dash, when the 8.5 was revealed.  But a) in IRL operation, clarity and accessibility, it is so much better than the mk8 screen; b) you quickly get accustomed to it visually; and c) even if design wise it still jars with you, the fact it’s a big improvement makes you very forgiving. 😂

Aside from a single instance of bongs (and yes all fingers point to the likely culprit being SHOP) and the known paddle issue, the car is brilliant!

For anymore who wants to feed the theory of reason for the bong fests. My friend is experiencing them just now, right when his trial  of Navi expired.

I said it guys, the shop is poisoned! 🫡

100% agree on this.

Would also recommend that your friend looks at his battery level.

IIRC Becs posted that her one and oly bong fest came after playing music etc while cleaning her car. I've since learned that my dashcam set up was draining my battery to as low as 11.7v depending on how frequently I drove the car. Since changing that, coinciding with the OTA software update regarding file extensions, I've not had one fest since.

That said, If the battery is partly responsible, it is weird that, in my case,  the bongs happened after I'd driven the car for at least 20 / 30 minutes -  which you'd expect to recharge the battery back to a decent level.
