Looking at the lengths that people have to go in order to secure cars is depressing. Worth me adding that the police actually caught the guy that stole mine, he was actually charged, he actually plead guilty and *drum roll* he got 150 community payback. Pointless. I think the next time I want a new car I’ll just nick it too.

When my R was stolen in February I only got it back because I actually found it myself. So the police told me where they think the criminals park them up but didn't actually express that they'd follow this up themselves. So I did. 30 minutes later I found my car with everything still inside (apart from the £300 child's seat). Wife's handbag was still in it. They had, however, tossed all my used cups and things out... Cut to the chase. Police found DNA evidence on a kitchen knife that had been moved. Got the guy. Got his name. Yep, I've even Facebooked him and his page is resplendent with him posing in his Napapijiri jacket with his mates in front of R's, Jag F-Types, Porsches, RS6s. So, 7 months later he gets a court citation. He attends (surprisingly). And now a few months later I haven't heard a thing. Police said he'd likely get a suspended sentence or community hours or something. Odd that since attending court lots of cars are getting nicked again - guess if you're getting done you might as well just go crazy, eh? If you're in Edinburgh/West Lothian/Falkirk I'd watch out. Edit: I novated the car. Best decision I made since getting it. Sadly.

Right, here goes another shameless plug for the sole purpose of someone getting a fantastic Golf R deal (and me getting rid )We had the keys and locks changed, all stone chips and scratches repaired professionally and have had the latest software installed by VW. The car still has 5k miles on it. Agreement is 16k over two years. Ends Dec 19. It's Lapiz Blue Estate but has no further options. Immaculate condition inside and out. £272 per month and it's yours. I have the transfer document primed (VWFS sent it over quite quickly) and ready to send too so this can be cleared up asap. IMPORTANT: It needs transferred to a limited company only, which is a bit rubbish. It cannot be transferred to an individual. It would be a great deal for someone wanting one of these and I'll miss it greatly. If this post is against forum rules I apologise and will gladly remove.

Heritage. Also, non-car folks even know what GTI signifies. The Rs are often viewed as not as 'pure' and more the choice of the criminal wanting to make a quick getaway than a gentleman wanting to take on some B-roads on a Sunday afternoon.

Agreed. There's no reason for them NOT to nick the cars. Going inside is such a normal thing for them, provides them no stress and is so temporary that it doesn't matter. Plus they'll just smoke the days away with spice. Situation is totally wrong.

Made me angry Of course I appreciated their transparency

when I found my car, the cops stupidly let me know the 'gang' that steals them has been operating for three years and between them have stolen well over 100 cars. She even said they know when they're due to go back inside/on bail because the thefts spike. It's ridiculous.

My Golf was nicked at the end of February (there's a thread somewhere I think) and despite me recovering myself (excellent tracking skills), I've still not got it back because it's taking them an age to get new keys for it. Is this something others have experienced? The crowd that have the car have had it now for three weeks...

I don't particularly want to use one of the website though... they all look a bit 'dodgy'.

So I got my R Estate in December. It got stolen at the end of February. My wife and so found it parked up in Edinburgh the next day. It's getting one tiny scratch on the door repaired and then it's coming back to us. I would love to continue to drive the car for the remainder of lease - 21 months. But my wife doesn't want it near the house. I've explored preferential early termination but if that doesn't worked I'm wanting to look at transferring my lease. What do people know about it? Does it work pretty easily? Do VWFS support it (they charge £500 admin after all if you transfer it) and think they credit check etc. I'm paying £272 a month so reckon someone would want it!

It'll get nicked.

The police confirmed that some of them are as young as 12 years old that are involved in this.

Joyride after my first MOT
-
If the analogy is simply around the use of the word 'dangerous', then yes of course I don't think it goes further than that though.
-
It's both. Little scallies and joyriders that have 'contacts' to sell the cars into the black market after they use them as a tool to quickly go from house to house stealing people's stuff. Not my words, but the old bill's.

You can't make an analogy between driving yourself, in excess of the signposted speed, in your own car and someone driving your car (without your express permission) in the same manner - regardless of the legality. The footage will show whether the drive was indeed a 'joyride' (for the purposes of simply having a laugh and thrill in a car you'd never be able to experience on your meagre wage) or whether it could reasonably be seen as driving to test brakes in accordance with the MOT requirements. Driving in excess of the speed limit, and making orgasmic noises (you said that right?) probably mean this guy's arse will be handed to him.
