Hi there, just asking if anyone knows this car, Rising Blue 3dr Manual, a mates looking at buying, seems pretty good. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201905168016340?advert-type=dealer-stock&advertising-location=at_cars&advertising-location=at_profile_cars&fromDealerSearchResults=%2Fdealers%2Fessex%2Fdunmow%2Fcountryhouse-cars-10018837%2Fstock%3Fadvertising-location%3Dat_cars%26advertising-location%3Dat_profile_cars%26dealer%3D10018837%26onesearchad%3DUsed%26onesearchad%3DNearly%20New%26page%3D2%26sort%3Dprice-asc&dpp=10018837

I spoke to Andy about that while i was there last, he's done his own S3. At the end of the day it shouldn't cost so much if you take all the branding/marketing etc away as in APR from the actual work done, they were my thoughts. Good to hear you've booked in though, they're really good from my experience, as a returning customer he checked and cleaned my Haldex pump filter free of charge when he serviced it.

There's Automotion in Sudbury, i've had my R32 and 7R there and they're top guys, ex VAG, enthusiasts who know their stuff.

The same code works for 4 19" PS4S', i did it last weekend, £591 for 4 including delivery.

Sounds like you had a perfect excuse for them new PS4S' and get the winter muck off your wheels! I just switched to Pretorias yesterday with new PS4S, i thought they felt a little firm, was expecting it after having 18's, but checked my pressures which were about 40psi front and 38 rear! Tyre place must've done it yesterday without telling me, i got them to swap my wheels over and dispose of the 18" tyres. Dropped to 36psi all round and they are totally different now, no difference in ride quality compared to the 18's (i have my DCC in comfort). Got mine for £155 as well, then a £40 discount for buying 4. Where were yours from?

We're getting it in Suffolk, but it rained for a good hour before, so it's just dissolving, damn it!

I really wanted to do this road too, i'd never heard of it till i started googling 'best road trips in Scotland' earlier this year before picking up my R in St Andrews. I didn't have the time to do it, so settled for a trip up the east coast to Aberdeen, then across to the A93 through the Cairngorms down to Perth which was absolutely epic, great first days drive in my 7R! @Gavras i'm looking forward to some photos if you can manage to pull over!

Nice one! I've had a MK4 and a MK5 R32, both great, MK5 was lovely with DSG and Wingback Recaros, i kept the MK5 whilst getting on the property ladder too, a year or so in and i've got the 7R, i'm paying a lot less than when renting so running the 7R (cheaper tax/fuel/insurance/maintenance) and having this place means i'm better off for it Hope things work out the same way for you! Not that far unfortunately, being N/A the only real way to gain more significant power is to go forced induction, then they turn into a right handful!

Nice mate, welcome to the Oryx White 3dr club! Those wheels are nice, wasn't sure about them at first but they suit it well, good choice!
-
I gave it a go for the first time last weekend through my new AB Lance and used the same method as @Booth11 ... Brilliant stuff, noticed it mostly in the wheel arches, didn't need to touch them, that was with 4 or 5 weeks worth of shite. Can also recommend their Bilberry Wheel Cleaner.

I really like my R, can't say i miss the R32 much to be honest, i miss the sound it makes i guess but i was kinda prepared for that, the other benefits of the R soon out-weigh the noise factor. The Oryx is damn nice, but looks like ordinary white a lot of the time i think, the pearl white on a Merc is much more noticeable, Oryx is a lot more subtle. Cleaning it is harder in some ways as you can see every little mark up close, every splattered bug! Polishing it isn't as satisfying as that Pearl Black! Also, waxing a white car - harder to see where you've been, when you cloud it onto a dark colour it's much easier to see! I like the white but i'm not sure i'd go for it again to be honest. How are you finding yours? Yeah i enjoyed using the DA, wasn't bad for a first attempt, i want another go though, just not sure what pad and polish combo to try next time. The stage 1 & 2 of this AF kit just seemed to break down into dust too quickly, stage 3 felt much more like it should and how i see it on videos, i could keep working it in for longer. Maybe the pads i was using had sat for too long without use (stage 3 pad was brand new). Cheers for the tips on sorting the B pillars, i bought a 4" Orange (medium cut) Lake Country pad but haven't had a go yet, the DA has a 6" and 5" backing plate, i'm guessing i could give the 4" pad a whirl on the 5" plate if i'm careful? Was thinking i'll give the stage 3 polish a go on it first, if no good i'll try the stage 2. The swirl is hideous on those pillars! Happy with the paint mostly though, white is much more forgiving too!

Cheers! Was a mission of a day and a half, i really needed another day to do it properly. I gave the car it's first clean since this on the weekend. Bought myself an AutoBrite Snow Foam lance, and some Citrus Pre-Wash as everyone says good things about it in here. Awesome stuff, really helped, especially under the wheel arches. Also some Bilberry Wheel Cleaner, again, worked a treat. The dirt fell off it, literally, so smooth. I gave it another wax with Auto Finesse Illusion, had more time to let it go off a bit more this time, really noticed the difference in finish afterwards. Hasn't rained since either, still looking fresh!

I've just turned 44 last week. Since i was 21 i've had mostly 'performance VW's'! Second car was a MK2 GTI 8V, then two 16V's ... had a break here and there from cars when i've lived in Australia on and off, but shipped a Corrado G60 out there with me back in 2005, was only a handful there as VW never sold them in Australia. Owned a MK4 R32 there which was one of 200 that VW sold. Came back to the UK in 2014 and got a MK5 R32, saw my first MK7 R in 2014 and wanted one since, logical progression i guess, and the rave reviews they got made me really want one!

Same here, 15 plate, I looked at my paperwork just after reading this and realized the Das Welt cover is for 1 yr from when I purchased, but, as it’s still under manafacturers warranty, the Das Welt is only in effect after that, so I only actually get just over 1 month Das Welt, if that makes sense 🤔

I'd pick yourself up a used set of Cadiz, they're not hard to come by and not too expensive like the Pretorias. Keep the Prets, then when it comes to sell, you can offer with either set of wheels to the new buyer, then sell whatever you have left. I'm doing the opposite to you, swapping my Cadiz for Prets, i may keep my Cadiz and do what i'm suggesting you do

Nice one mate, i miss Sydney, lived on the Northern Beaches. i also lived in Byron Bay for around 5 yrs, bit less traffic up there, great drives up through the hills! You got the best colour, i've got an Oryx too, looks amazing in the sun, awesome spec on yours though! The R32 came with a little plaque on the gear surround to say which number out of the 200 it was, and 2 matching keyrings, also an umbrella and pen haha! It's cool they've done something like that on the 7.5R, is it numbered out of the 300 too?
-
Nice! Is it Oryx? Where in Sydney are you? i lived there for a few years, shipped a Corrado out there and had one of the 200 Mk4 R32's there

How annoying for you, i feel your pain You can get a brand new Pretoria from here for around £450, shipping would be around $150. https://shopdap.com//vw-pretoria-19-in-wheel.html I'd buy your damaged one as i'm after one for refurbing along with 3 other scratched/curbed ones. Yours is definitely fixable, but if you're not comfortable with that and want a new one, and he's willing to cough up, there's another option for you.

Well summarised that , haha!

It's a bit of a catch 22 isn't it. The R is near perfect really, plenty fast enough for the road, stage 1 map for under £1000 and it's silly fast, great handling, looks good to someone who knows cars but not in your face to others etc etc ... if it had the sound it'd need at least another cylinder/bigger engine which would then take away all the other benefits! The lack of noise is easily out-weighed by the other advantages, but i do hear you, i'm not exactly practically-minded when it comes to cars, it just helps me justify having it! The sound is mostly to be heard by others, but a nice sounding engine definitely puts a grin on your face, no doubt, it's the induction noise that i loved about the R32 as well as the exhaust! Tough one!
-
I hear you about the sound of the R being a let down. Years ago when the 20VT's were becoming the engine of choice for the S3 etc, i always thought they kinda lacked soul, impressive power and tunability, but a bit wooden! I came from a Mk5 R32, before that, a MK4 R32, both amazing sounding engines, but obviously lacking in other areas compared to the 7R which i've had for around 3 months. Before opting for the 7R i was looking at other (older car) options, RS3, Porsche 997, RS4 etc, but at the end of the day i went for the 7R as, as you said, it's known for better handling, cheaper to run, just as fast if not faster than the other options. The sound is a let down and i can't even be bothered with different exhausts etc as i don't think they ever sound good, but, my conclusion was that it's only really other people that benefit from the sound. I now love how quiet and understated the 7R is. All that said, the RS3 is a damn nice car, i really like them. If i were you i'd go for a drive in one and see what you think.

Who actually told you it won't be a VW warranty? Mines under Das WeltAuto but also still under manufacturers, mine came with 1 year Das Welt and roadside assistance, as said i could of had 2 yrs if i went with their PCP.
