Thanks, haven't got the house yet, going through all the applications at the moment but we're hopeful. Really pleased with it, hard to get them so clean but got a good one. Appreciate it.

Thanks, much appreciated! It's black, Looks lovely if and when it's clean!! will be paying even more attention to Bec's detailing posts now.... Has the correct silver R32 alloys in great nick, and everything bar the stereo is stock, due to the need for an aux and Bluetooth. I have the original thought, he gave it to me as well. Honestly, it's a beaut. It's not a hardship tbh, I've always wanted one, and the sound is sweet as a nut. I will be hanging onto it. Will add a photo if i can get one...

Thanks both. I'll always be fond of a nice mk5, and I have always intended to get my hands on an R32, so this was the perfect opportunity. Plus, with the miles and history being what they are, I may well hang onto it, even if I change again in the future. Great little car.

Unforeseen circumstances have meant that the beautiful Reflex Silver R is now gone. Thankfully, these have been positive circumstances - we are getting married, and anticipated not having a deposit for a mortgage in time. So, believing we would rent for a year at least, I got the R. We now find ourselves in a position where we have managed to gather up a deposit, and have been told that we likely will be successful in getting a mortgage - the only fly in the approval ointment being the fact I just started such a large finance deal. So, cut a long story short, it's gone. But there are plusses: 1) I made a grand on it! 2) I got 3-4 months of driving the best car I've ever owned, and enjoyed every minute 3) I got my hands on a late 2008, mint mk5 R32 - 56k miles on it, FSH, past 6 years of MOTs, 6 month platinum warranty and bodywork in great nick. I absolutely love it, and will enjoy every minute of this car too. 4) I'm going to hang around on VWROC for a while - appreciated the insight and banter, and really good forums are always to be appreciated 5) I may well return in style if/when the mortgage goes through...

Going on a drive from Larne to Wick on the 15th December - and back on the 18th. Unfortunately won't get a chance to be doing the NC500 this time around but it's on the bucket list at some point!

Which watch does a Golf R driver wear?
Hi Ho Silver replied to Nick the Greek's topic in General Chat
I wear either a) Polar M400 or b ) a lovely wee Kenneth Cole number (white face, rose gold clasps and dark brown leather strap) that my fiancee bought for my 21st. Very good wacth, also like a nice Daniel Wellington one. More my price range lol but very good quality. -

Probably not necessary to say, but ALL available Chris Harris videos, including Top Gear's Chris Harris Drives, his old channel Chris Harris on Cars, and even the /Drive videos. absolute gem is his videos on classic racing e.g. le mans, spa, and Goodwood. The Portimao video on P1, LaF and 918 is brilliant too.

Anyone got 7R Owners Manual in PDF
-
Mine is probably the briefest here: 1.0 Corsa B 1999- "undisclosed" (read: puny) power, but at least 1bhp if not more... first car and loved it. Was mint condition. and kept that way. factory sunroof and CD player!! 2.0 mk5 GT TDI manual - 140bhp, fettled to 180bhp. Great daily car, used and abused and not a single issue. MK6 R alloys, black GTi lights. put 70,000 on it in 2 and a half years and only needed a bearing and a CV boot. 2.0 mk7 Golf R manual - still stock. Love it. Also infrequently drove a 2006 Renault Trafic 9-seater which was my families (a fan of vans actually, but it's no Transit), and borrowed a Corsa E for a short time (not a fan. give me the B any day) Not bad for 24 though...

I had a similar experience with a friends brand new 435d M-Sport X-drive - auto and launch control. It shifts extremely well for a diesel (310 bhp I think, and far too much torque for it's own good), and over about 3/4 mile he led by about 2 car's length! My R is manual, but still told him it's best off three when I see him again...

On the roads it'd generally be slower. I think the main difference will be how it feels and grips, not the numbers necessarily. It's bound to be a lot lighter and coupled with FWD and a manual, would feel very very different to a DSG R. Definitely couldn't make a decision without driving - at the very least, a reasonable length of a drive in the S. I need the back seats, and my R is a manual so I'd stick to my guns, but would love to have a rip in one...

Can I have a whinge about autostop?
Hi Ho Silver replied to Mother Theresa's topic in VW Golf R MK7 Chat
Had to laugh when I saw a CBR600 warming his tyres alongside me on the motorway a few weeks ago - just how seriously he was taking it. He spent a good 20-30 seconds at it 😂 But a hatch is never going to beat a fast bike on a straight. As for the stop-start for OP, there's no good reason why throttle shouldn't restart it automatically. Methinks it sounds like the good, old-fashioned sensor problem. Unfortunately can't help you more, as I have a manual, and my startup procedure is (a) ignition, (b) autostop off, so I have never had much to do with it... -

I'm astonished the box would let him even engage the gear. 3rd maybe at a pinch, but I can't understand how it would let him go into 1st. You would need to be determined that it is going into gear should it be the last thing you do!!

Disclaimer: I'm in NI. I bought a mk7 R 2014 with 17,600 miles back at the start of August. I got it for a steal, FVWSH and for only £17.950. Putting my old knackered mk5 brought that down to less than 16k. The car is 3-door, manual, basic spec except for a pan sunroof. in other words, perfect. and it's financed over 4 years. I will lose a very small amount on the car. but not very much at all. While the mk6 is at a good resale value because of the numbers, you have to remember that when an 8 is out, and both 6s and 7s are getting older, the 7 will be so much more sought after than a 6. Sorry to any 6 owners! That will do one of two things: drop 6s value like a stone, or, if they avoid this (which to be fair I think they could), it will put a 'safety net' on the 7s (there's no way 7s of similar spec will go for less than 6s). Either way, with good mileage 6s currently starting about £15k on Autotrader at the moment, I'm fairly confident that a well kept, good mileage 7 simply cannot go for any less than about £16k in 2 years' time. Probably 17k+, and I have put my money where my mouth is... That's a big drop for buying at £24k+, but even 20K region that's not a bad minimum safety net to have. Point of all this: 1) Have a look in Northern Ireland!! Seriously consider it, it is not that much hassle and there are low mileage, dealer-sold, FSH bargains to be had over here. Smaller buyer pool, shorter commutes so mileage is reasonable, and higher density of good dealers. 2) Don't be afraid to buy a 'low' spec and maybe add 19's or what have you, as you go. You can sell these mods or keep them, and there's more flexibility. Also, even a lower spec 7R is excellent. 3) Think about forum cars, as above. They will be well looked after and fairly priced. You will also have a vested interest in the car and a market to sell on to in due course, of those who are prepared to maybe pay a little more in 2 years than what 'other' cars have depreciated to - because all 7s will then be older, and a good service history, maintenance and mechanical sympathy. Example: I have been a member on MLR for a year or two - an Evo there comfortably is sold between members for 2-3k more than one on Autotrader, at any point. 4) If you've been able to buy with little or no finance, you will probably be in a good position regardless
