  1. Please could I ask how you go about topping your coolant up? Do you just use water from a tap with antifreeze on a 50:50 ratio? Also, should I be topping the coolant up when the engine is cold ro warm, and to what level? I know this sounds noddy but i've studied the Owners' Manual and it has just confused me! I believe I have a small leak from my thermostat housing so just want to gather the knowledge now before I have to top it up myself. Many thanks in advance! Callam
  2. Good evening all. I thought I'd introduce myself as a new Mk7 Golf R owner - i've been a member of the forum for a while but have only recently purchased my first R. The car is a 2015/65 R in Limestone Grey with Pretoria alloys and every other optional extra except Lane Assist. I've been hunting for an R for along time but I am very happy with the condition and spec of the one I have bought. I look forward to learning as much as I can about this beast from the forum! Cheers, Callam
  3. Thanks for the comments. It seems there’s two schools of thought from this and other areas on the internet - something minor like a loose pad or in some cases new brake servos required etc. Having driven this particular car everything seemed fine and the car has recently had a service with VW including brake fluid. The only thing the dealer commented on was the tracking - perfect across each axle but there was apparently .5mm less tread on the rear tyres compared to the fronts. Fingers crossed the problem is minor. The car also had a few months left on the VW warranty. Is this something they would look into under warranty? Cheers Cal
  4. Good evening all, Firstly, I’ve finally decided to bite the bullet and buy myself a Mk7 Golf R after 4/5 months of searching. The car is a 65 plate with 30000 miles in Limestone Grey with every optional extra except ‘Lane Assist’. The reason for the thread is that during a test drive I noticed a clunk coming from the brake pedal when I released my foot. It seemed occasional although it was very easy to reproduce. I’m slightly concerned with this although the salesman told me it’s normal and happens on them all. Any advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated; is this normal and am I being paranoid or is there something underlying that needs addressing? I have tried searching but found nothing similar to my issue. Many thanks in advance! Callam
  5. Thanks for the explanation. Simple force vectors which, when resolved, clearly have a lateral component hence the spin. Although, ultimately, I must agree with invisiblekid below... Agreed! Surely, with an AWD car you tend to get uneven wear across both axles anyway, so replacing all 4 at the same time would make sense? (possibly simply a matter of opinion also). Callam ✌️
  6. Great! It's not a huge power drop anyway really, although presumably still noticeable above 5k revs. How many miles do you get to a tank now? I use my car mainly on motorways with the odd spirited drive so I'm hoping I can achieve a reasonable distance on a tank of fuel but still have a decent amount of power for some fun every now and then...
  7. Nice car! Welcome! From a fellow newbie
  8. Hi Steve954r, That's exactly the kind of thing I need to hear. Whilst I'll be gutted if the M3 goes, I will enjoy having a little extra cash in my pocket! I presume you're seeing into the 30s on mpg now? I fully suspect the servicing will be much less as well.... Cheers, Callam ✌️
  9. Have you researched the price from VW?
  10. It's a phenomenal car. Personal circumstances mean I need to change it to something slightly more frugal. I am, however, in no huge rush - hopefully a good position to be in to hunt for a good example. I love the Rising Blue! I do agree with you about the black as well. I think I would have to own it for a while before modifying it too much. I would consider the odd cosmetic tweak in the early days though. I am based in the North East but haven't actually seen a Mk6 R in the flesh for a very long time!
  11. Thanks mate. Slowly getting that count up there but I thought your post read that you can post in a 'Wanted' section with no minimum post count required? Happy to keep working towards the 25 though Thanks, Callam
