  1. Hi all, New to the forum and apologies, I know this topic has probably been covered before, but I couldn’t find anything that directly covers it. I’m about to go Stage 2 on my R and I’m torn between installing a decat downpipe or a Scorpion high-flow sports cat. I’m already running a Milltek non-resonated cat-back, and while it sounds great, I’m definitely after more volume and some pops and bangs - something a bit more aggressive. What’s throwing me off is the mixed info online. Some say a 200-cell sports cat barely adds any noise, while others claim it makes a solid difference, especially when paired with a non-res system. Would love to hear from anyone running either setup: Does a sports cat actually give you more sound than stock, or is it subtle? Is the decat worth the hassle for the extra volume and drama (MOT and being technically uninsured)? How do both compare in terms of pops, bangs, and overrun crackles once mapped Stage 2? Appreciate any feedback before I make the call. Apologies again as I’m sure this has been discussed before.
  2. Hi everyone, i have a very strange knocking noise coming from the front of my car when i am lighly feathering the accelerator (around 1500 revs) and it also happens when the car is slowing down from a low speed. I have taken it to VW this morning for a general health check in which they said they can hear the noise but can't see what it would be and that it requires further inspection. The car is a 2016 Mk7 R with 19000 miles on it so not enough for long term wear and tear. I have a video of the noise but i cannot attach it to the post so if anyone would like to hear the noise if it would help them determine what it is i can email it or send it in some other way to you directly... Any help would be grately appreciated!
  3. Hi, I've a 2016 Golf R Estate. I find it nice and quiet on a journey, but I'd love a little more bark on demand. An aftermarket valved exhaust sounds like a good idea, but would this be oem quiet on a journey? Also I have koni fsd's fitted. 14k on them so far - very nice.
  4. A couple of times recently when I've (almost) floored the accelerator with DSG in Sport mode, the car (exhaust I think) made a strange low frequency sound for a second before it changed down and accelerated Is this normal? I think the DSG box is confused as it was accelerating hard and then slowing down before accelerating hard again which I can understand but I'm not sure about the noise. More of a DSG burp than DSG fart.
  5. How do i go about getting the exhaust flaps to stay open constantly in all modes? Could anyone help. I know it sounds ridiculous but would it effect my warrenty? And my cars in for first service next friday is it something they could do for me at the dealers? Thanks
  6. Hello Everyone, im currently looking into purchasing a Mk7 R Manual in the new year and I wasn’t just curious as I’m a big fan of nice loud exhausts since owning my Mk4 r32 and i was just looking for some recommendations on what exhausts you would recommend for the best noise (pops and bangs) look forward to seeing your suggestions - J1mmith
  7. Hi Chaps, Had my R just under a week and proper loving it, however, I was out at the weekend on a few errands so a series of short trips hopping from shop to shop and noticed the engine has developed a (fairly subtle but noticeable from the inside) 'tick, tick, tick' at idle. It was fine to start with but on the 3rd start the noise was there. It drives fine and whether the tick stops after 15mph ish or you just can't hear it anymore because of road/wind/engine noise is hard to say... anyway, drove it home (about 7 miles) with no probs, gave it a clean and left it a few hours. Starting it up again, the noise seems to have gone so whether it was just a one off or an intermittent noise that's going to get worse over time it's really hard to say. With this limited info - anybody got any thoughts on what this might be and how concerned I should be before going back to the dealer... It's definitely engine related as opposed to something in the tyre ( I was stationery and it was still audible).
  8. Sorry if this topic is old news but I have not been able to find it covered before. I have a 7R 2014 DSG. On cold start it has a whirring grinding noise for approximately 1second which I assumed was normal until a work mate of mine heard it and said " crikey whats that". It sounds like an oil pump priming or possibly the starter disengaging type noise. Even if engine stopped immediately after cold start then restarted the noise isnt there which leads me to believe it's a pump priming thing. VW serviced it yesterday and looked for the noise but obviously it wasnt there as it was warm. Any thoughts appreciated.
