  1. Did you ever get any further with this? My 2016 R has just started doing it too. Wont start keyless but does if you hold the fob next to the steering column, but dash message says Change key battery (it was a new battery). On one occasion so far (only just started doing it) I also got the transmission error - you could put it in gear (DSG) but it was like neutral and just revved, reverse or fwd gear. Turned it off and on again and it seemed fine. I then locked and unlocked the car using the button on the key fob and so far that seems to have fixed it - but early days... Be interested to hear if you got to the bottom of it...
  2. Anyone got/tried an RFID wallet for your keyless go keys? Seem like a pretty simple and cost effective option for stopping nobbers being able to nick your car using relay boxes... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Keyless-Entry-Signal-Blocker-Faraday/dp/B071ZGGRD1
  3. B4494 Newbury to Wantage. 15 miles of fun right there. Bit further west B4000 Lambourn to Shrivenham. Quite a way to go from Windsor tbh and there must be good stuff closer to you but - if you're out that way deffo worth a little detour 😉 Check em out on Google street view before hand....
  4. ..She Who Must Be Obeyed. £275 loan repayment £20 insurance £16 tax £120 - £150 fuel £431 pcm
  5. Saw a bit of that - the numbers are ridiculous! Thing is it must be the same gangs doing it, I can't believe there's that many car thieves around. I'm gonna sound like a right wing activist but seriously, until they start punishing these fuckers harshly it will continue. For a start why can't the po po run them over when they ditch the car to leg it? Works in the states and if you're crippled it'll stop you doing it again. If you're caught and three others in the car get away, you have to serve their sentences too (not concurrently) unless you give the popo their identities and they are caught. Personally I'd shoot the fuckers but I know that's a frowned upon attitude - they just need a hug after all.
  6. From a mechanical point of view they'd struggle I'm sure, however, I wonder how many people have had to get their kids to connect their phone to the car or help with some other techie stuff? Maybe not many on this site to be fair cos we all like cars (!) but my point is, we had to learn about alternators, chokes, double declutching etc etc but to be honest I'm almost getting to the point where there's so much tech in the car these days there's even more to cope with. Certainly ALOT more distractions. Makes me chuckle that they make cars with all these 'driver's aids' for auto wipers, auto lights, ACC, lane assist etc etc then fill them with tech that distracts you, there's even four ways to change gear in DSG cars ffs not to mention 4 or 5 driving modes! I've had my R about 3 weeks now and just about gone through all the menu options on car setup, satnav prefs, getting all the logos for the DAB radio stations and installing them - the list goes on. So, yes I reckon the yoof would freak out if confronted by a pre-90's car but at the same time they probably have more to learn on a car these days than we ever had.
  7. May have already been mentioned (this is a looong thread)! With stop/start activated and you're stationary (engine stopped) with auto hold on, when you're ready to move, just 'tap' the accelerator to wake the car up and disengage the autohold - literally just a quick tap, it starts up and will roll forward very slowly - I find this allows you to pull away smoother without that annoying sudden jerkiness you get if you just pull away straight from an engine off/auto hold on situation.
  8. Back to the OP: Tried my LC for the first time last week - hahahaha. The acceleration is great but it's that initial jump off the line that got me - there's no scrabbling or clutch slipping or squealing tyres - basically no drama, no energy wasted - just immediate speed. It's probably just as well you have to use it sparingly as I'd be doing it all the time otherwise!!!
  9. Maybe you hit something? Possible if you had your eyes shut like I do on launch!
  10. What he said. New air filter's a few quid and might make all the difference - you'll never get around the fact it's not a v6 so you have to be realistic but air filter / induction kit / exhaust will all help and save you a lot of money too (not just in swapping to the RS but in running costs longer term). Failing that, if it's literally just the sound you're worried about stick a hole in your exhaust - worked for all my old cars and won't cost a bean!!!!
  11. Blimey that's commitment. There a dude round here appears to be doing the same thing, only he's set his sights a little lower and appears to reside in a black Honda Jazz that's semi-permanently parked in one of two laybys. #Livingthedream.
  12. Mini (boy racered up and great fun) Citroen AX (mistake) Corsa SRi (fond memories) Golf VR6 (few mods - sounded awesome) Suzuki GSXR400R (couple less wheels - jus for fun) Golf GTi (MkIV - bit rubbish) Golf GTi (MkV - not rubbish at all) Mercedes C180 kompressor (boring and slow) Mercedes C250 AMG Sport (much less boring, much less slow) KTM Duke 390 (fun for the summer) Golf R (MkVII - sweet as F**k)
  13. 45. The R is my 4th Golf, after a VR6 which I tweaked a bit - with some help from AMD 😉 and 2 GTIs (MkIV was crap, MkV was ace). Had a couple of Mercs for the last 4 years but now back to a Golf - wanted to get back to petrol and something 4WD and quick - R fitted the bill! Got to say I love it - it really does make me laugh out loud everytime I gun it. Until I get a speeding ticket - then I'll hate it. Stoopid car.
